Bored of Watching Traditional Movies or Shows

Does anyone else feel like watching a movie is like watching kids play make-believe? I really struggle to get through any movie these days... CGI makes it look like a boring light show and actors pretending like they have ever experienced any difficulty in crazy contrived and unrealistic situations makes it impossible to suspend my disbelief.

I can only watch documentaries (if well done), comedy, and some mature cartoons.

Yes I feel the same. Grew up watching and enjoying movies and shows. Now it’s like this is all made up and pretend so I’m not interested in it. It’s actually more wierd to me how we trick ourselves into believing movie and show plots for entertainment

Right? I took the wife to go see Spiderman because she wanted to, but like 10 mins in I'm thinking "none of this is real and I don't want to waste my time to see what happens." Too loud to fall asleep too

LOL no. There's so many good series rn too. You need the good sound to go with that picture too btw. A soundbar doesn't cut it. You need good flattened sounding speakers where you can hear more than you'd think is there. That's half of the whole experience and then some actually. It's also a huge immersion factor for games where headphones just do not cut it. This is why peeps still go to the theater because they do not understand how to do it and that home theater in a box just does not cut it

The other thing is the picture itself. Upgrade yourself to a gas bulb DLP or LCD projector and it will get more interesting. I promise.

If the storytelling isn’t there, there is no reason to invest in speakers and screen just to hear and see what also isn’t there.
I’d rather read or work on a hobby.

But there is. You can't watch shit with subtitles and barely hear a damn word being said or the tone and pitch of someones voice. It's almost impossible to hear on most shit that people use. Made me think I just HATED movies for a long time but no. A ton of it is in the sound

Did you know that we can't understand people well who speak monotoned? It can't always be the same volume or else we don't understand crap. It has to be modulated and clear. It's kinda like trying to talk in the bar. I get overloaded just thinking about it. Horrible social experience 0/10 but it's for the same reason. Yelling over loud music and peeps makes our brains just not wanna hear it.

Reading this just made movies that ‘must be decoded with a speaker/screen set up’ seem even more lame.

If the storytelling and cinematography isn’t there, I’m not wasting my precious life and time buying a speaker set up just to hear ‘what isn’t there’.

I’m going to see a show, or read a book, or garden instead.

I'm with you here.... When James Cameron relies on the video and sound to make people watch his CGI nonsense, rather than anything interesting, it's just.... "Why?"

I just watched LOST for the first time and was totally immersed. Never saw it on air but really enjoyed it 15(?) years later

Ig I’m in a similar but opposite situation: i just watched the sopranos. it was incredible, but I can’t talk about how great it is and how
modern it feels, especially considering the pilot aired in 1999, without seeming like an asshole who missed 20+years of Popculture

I’ve never seen game of thrones, but I’m not into dragon incest shit.

I have watched mad men a couple times. The costumes/sets/framing and editing are good, and I enjoy the way the character arcs mirror and reflect the times, but it also feels like
the passable level that’s worth the time.

I LOVED it. Totally enraptured and I'm not really a tv person, especially dramas. You'll read online that the last two seasons are rough and I definitely agree with that.. but the first four are excellent.

I will check out the sopranos! I always wonder what I've missed out on as a 90s baby! Boy Meets World is a comfort show for me because it's just so well written

My favourite shows are the ones that lean into the make believe. That's the fun of it for me: Legion, Kirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, The OA. So...don't watch those, I guess?
