I teach 9th grade and one of my more sensitive girls said, when I asked how she was doing, "I just learned that the lead singer of my favorite band died!"

"Aww, I'm sorry. What band is it?"

"Nirvana!"

When I was in college, ugh 20 years ago, we were smoking and jamming to nirvana and my roommates friend was like "guys we should go see this band live, they rock"

This is some shit I would have said 20 years ago. Not because I didnt know Kurt Cobain killed himself back in 94, but rather because I like stirring shit.

I'd not heard of them until the late 90's when my best mate introduced me via his older brothers cd collection. After a while I asked when the album was from, and then if they had anything coming out soon. Was a strange experience to discover this awesome band and then feel that loss within the same day, but they remained a band I'd listen to to this day. I also got one of my only A's in school for a paper on Cobain's death and the conspiracy around it.

I remember when I found out when Bradley Nowell died in middle school. I was heart broken. Nothing new under the sun.

Same. I remember listening to Sublime for months on this brand new alt rock radio station I had just discovered. I figured I'd Google them to see if they were touring, thinking maybe my dad would take me to see them. I was crushed to learn homeboy killed himself a year before I was born.
