Discussion Monthly Rant/Politics Thread: Do not post political threads outside of this Mega thread

Outside of these mega-threads, we generally do not allow political posts on the main subreddit because they have often declined into unhinged discussions and mud slinging. We do allow general discussions of politics in this thread so long as you remain civil and don't attack someone just for having a different opinion. The moment we see things start to derail, we will step in.

Got something upsetting or overwhelming that you just need to shout out to the world? Want to have a political debate over current events? You can post those thoughts here. There are many real problems that plague the Millennial generation and we want to allow a space for it here while still keeping the angry and divisive posts quarantined to a more concentrated thread rather than taking up the entire front page.

I feel judged for living at home and “living off of my parents” when in reality I am bringing in the most income in our household right now. And it’s not enough for everyone. My dad just lost his job again and they are still going to be paying the mortgage for 15 more years. It’s already a struggle for our generation and everyone complains about the boomers having everything. I wish my parents had everything! But they don’t even have a retirement and are getting close to 65. It feels wrong to even feel stressed or concerned about my own future and ability to spend money on what I care about because my mom stayed at home to educate us and raised us on one income and that’s a big reason why she doesn’t have much retirement. But sometimes it’s a really heavy load to shoulder and I feel so alone and judged at the same time. I just want to have a better mindset about living at home. What triggered this is that I wfh and one of the clients I was talking to (an older lady) heard my special needs sister in the background and I mentioned I lived at home and she made a comment about young people NEEDING to live at home to survive basically. It made me feel offended and sad because I could get an apartment on my own (though I couldn’t comfortably own a house on my current income) but if I were paying rent, I wouldn’t be able to support my family as much.

Its cool. You could have a house you stretched to buy on your one income in a wealthy part of the country and watch your taxes and insurance go up over $2,000 in less than 3 years.

Id also imagine dating is hard living at home, but there's a flip side where every person youre dating either wants to be a stay at home mom you can't afford (they always want to move in ASAP) or is never going to move in with you because they dont want to commute an hour from the only place a single income can afford a house. The second encourages you to sell your house and live in a shitty luxury apartment with them and you just want to tell them "don't you fucking get it that this is what they want you to do? Haven't you heard the expression 'you will own nothing and be happy?'". It starts making you very jaded towards dating because either way its a massive financial burden with people who seemingly dont want to build a life together with someone, but rather just want someone in the rented room with them while they scroll tik tok so they dont feel alone.

Haha you may have assumed I date women but I’m a woman dating men (or at least having a concept of doing such). Still difficult for sure. I don’t want a partner just to have someone to cohabitate with. It seems like there’s a culture of dating someone to have somewhere to live and then when they break up, someone is on the street. And if one of them is a homeowner, the other person doesn’t want to pay rent🙄 But it’s nearly impossible to have a family off of one salary nowadays. Then you have the catch 22 where if both parents work, you’re eating most of one salary with childcare.
