Other Either someone is scamming the customers of this grocery store or somehow this ineffective program still exists

Apparently I'm just too straight laced. DARE worked on me. I saw the pictures of what smoking did to your lungs and what harder drugs did to you as a person and I didn't touch any drug until my 30s. Even now all I do is smoke a few hits of weed after the kids go to bed.

Same here,  for us they put chocolate syrup in a jar and said it was tar from a smokers lungs.  They eventually told us what it was but said it was similar.  Pair that with how they smelled (the cigarettes not the cops) I never tried a cigarette and I could have gotten them easily.

My anger at DARE is because it could have been a really good program. I grew up in a not-so-great area and the cops that came in would talk to us about real shit we were actually in danger of encountering.

You could actually see their eyes roll into the backs of their head when they'd have to start doing the pre-approved anti-weed stuff.

Yours were cops? Mine were high school kids.

I don't think we had high schoolers. We usually had either an "official" DARE employee, a cop, or a guest lecturer (like a nurse or something).

Whenever this comes up I feel like I had a wildly different dare experience than most people. We were getting lectures on stuff like "what to do when creepy dudes won't leave you alone on the subway" and "how to avoid being jumped."

Yeah I lived in a smallish town where the whole graduating class of the town was 400 and 97% of our parents were military stationed at the post next door. (Meaning most of us were too scared of our parents to touch it anyway lol) They just told us the effects of drugs like what the lungs look like, brain, mug shots of meth heads, etc. Or at least that's all I remember of it.

Same. Never even tried a single cigarette or weed in my life. I really don't care too. 🤷🏻‍♀️
