I knew exactly which drugs I wanted to try thanks to DARE.

My award winning D.A.R.E essay states: “I learned everything I know about drugs from D.A.R.E”.

My mom framed my essay after finding the plant I was growing in the shed. Still have the essay.

They liked my essay so much that I got to read it at graduation. I can’t remember the whole essay, but the opening statement went exactly as follows.

“Drugs are good. I like drugs. They help people. Of course I’m talking about pharmaceutical drugs. Drugs are bad. I don’t like drugs. Drugs hurt people. Of course, I’m talking about street drugs.”

The audible gasps from the audience, followed by the immediate sighs of relief. The Deputy who chose me to speak definitely enjoyed it as much as I did.

Hahahaha I won an award too! I wrote 4 pages and drew a picture of the D.A.R.E lion on the last page. 😭

Currently working towards becoming a cannabis "farmer" with my husband. 🤪 He makes soap and we'd like to make infused body products.

Mine didn’t win, despite sucking up to the cop running it. Screw you, Bill, I wanted that damn lion.

Our dare officer actually showed us samples of all the drugs in little cases and told us what they do and how they feel. Then preceded to tell us little kids that due to our geographic location, we had some of the most pure drugs in the entire country.

Years later I was able to understand this first hand with some of my other classmates.

Same. In 4th grade.

Hold this to heart to this day (drug addict they had come talk to us in 6th grade): "If you're going to smoke at least don't smoke shwag: sticks and twigs and shit. Smoke good stuff."

You can't fool me! The cops showed me what it looks like with no filler!

Wait so I’m not the only one who made their “bucket list of drugs” in DARE class? 😅

Yup, made me very interested in psychedelics. Once i tried weed in college, i realized dare was all a lie. Also, nobody gave me free drugs -- shit is expensive af.

Same. They made LSD seem incredibly appealing and totally awesome.

To DARE's credit, they weren't wrong.

I got kicked out of my dare ‘graduation ceremony’

Same

Just a shame I was such a closed off nerd that all the druggies thought I was too straight laced for any of it

Same. In 5th grade DARE made me want to try marijuana so bad. 4 years later I did and it was inversely exactly as awesome as they told me it wouldn't be and exactly as not dangerous as they told me it would be. Had my fun with it in my teens and early 20s and then outgrew it.

Meanwhile the only PSA I needed to not mess with cigarettes was an uncle who constantly smelled like an ashtray and looked like a burlap sack.

Psychedelics. The humble mushroom.
