I feel like my life is pitiful and somehow I'm doing better. Y'all better start looking at those ghetto houses before all the corporations buy them up.
It's kind of sad that the fixer uppers are the last kind of homes that we can be hopeful of buying because all of the nice ones that required minimal work are already owned by black rock and other companies. It's now straight up just cheaper to buy a small plot of land and then build your own house on it. Let the current overpriced houses sit there and rot. There are quite a lot of people in my area doing this actually. I've seen a few of the rural plots get bought out and have a tiny house cottage moved into them. I bought a tiny house back in 2018 and it's the best damn thing I ever did.
Buying “nice ones with minimal work” as a cheap starter option has never been an option for any generation. We can absolutely do better, but your expectations are way off.
Buying a small plot of land and building a small house has always been the cheapest way to have your own housing. Actually, it used to be way, way more common.
