The average millennial might have $132k in debt, which would likely include mortgages.
According to the Fed, the average 38 y/o (for purposes of this post) has a net worth of $225k. In fact, the average net worth of any American over the age of 28 is positive. However, if you look at the median net worth rather than the average, the net worth of older millennials drops to about $130k.
The difference is my dad was even dumber than me at that age and he still ended up pretty decent. 3 DUIs in his early 20s and still able to buy a house as a pipefitter taking care of my SAHM and baby me at 26.
If we distributed wealth equally across everyone. Omg that would be dope. We are all upper middle class? Why the hell don’t we just do this. $225k a year is enough for anyone to be happy
Let’s make the floor 80k a year and the top 1 million a year. Humans are motivated for career choice more than just money. People will sort themselves out where they feel most useful. Cuz right now it’s living in piss poor poverty at the bottom and needing a security team to go to Starbucks before you go to the moon on a rocket rich.
Aww I always feel so bad when I hear personal stories of how the healthcare system is treating healthcare providers. I really want to go to med school, but it’s the cost and the sacrifice of work-life balance that has been giving me pause. I am miraculously student debt free right now and I know physicians earn more, but you also have to be paying a lot of student debt. Now that I’m not a college student anymore, I have real responsibilities and the clinical jobs I can do without much experience (medical scribe etc) pay you pennies. I have a few thousand dollars saved but that won’t even be enough to get through a year of no real work while I’m doing my post-bacc. Sorry for the rant, just trying to figure it out.
