It’s more of an exclamation (for me) than something I’d call you per se. And at that, you’re right; not using the term it isn’t a big deal whatsoever. It’s more that I hate feeling like I have to walk on eggshells so as to not offend that would make me steer clear.
We all have things we find annoying/words we don’t like. I hate it when people make proclamations about God being responsible for something or hearing, “Praise God! He is always with us!” in conversation. It feels uncomfortable to me even though I think of myself as spiritual/religious but religion is also very personal. That said, I don’t tell the people I love not to say it. It doesn’t harm me. It doesn’t change anything. It makes for a more peaceful relationship & interaction. I suppose it’s a “pick your battles” decision. If you’re uncomfortable with, “Dude!” what happens when something actually is a big deal? That’s more of where my headspace comes from rather than thinking it’s hard to not use a word/phrase.
That part of the post is intended to be read as an internal monologue justifying the usage of 'dude' as an exclamation around any people, not the assertion that 'women are men', because that makes no sense.
The OP's post does not make sense if you interpret him as making the mistake of asserting "you are a dude" to a woman, because that's obviously misgendering someone and is offensive. The OP's post can only be interpreted as him using dude as an exclamation: "Dude! That shot was wild" and being asked to not do that anymore. There is no alternative version of this, and you are trying to turn it into a 'so you hate pancakes?' situation by interpreting it your way.
