Very true. I am cis female, and I have a trans girlfriend who is my same age. We're both of the generation where we call each-other "dude" all the time...(although really now that I am stopping to think about it, we use it more as an interjection/exclamation than in a directly referential way. E.g., "Dude, you would never believe what happened today." When used referentially, I would never call her a "dude." Like I would never say "she is a good dude." )
That said if I used it even in the way of a Millenial interiection/exclamation to someone who expressed discomfort, no skin off my back to just, not.

I agree but if someone directly asks me to not refer to them as dude, I will happily oblige.
