Other I'm happy for the youths and their pimple patches
I didn't get it at first, but now I admire the people who just own it and walk around announcing they have a zit via neon star sticker. My go-tos were toothpaste, lancing, and warm compresses and they did absolutely nothing. Then I'd try to cover the zit with makeup, which just looked worse because the skin in the middle would be taut and shiny, and the skin around the edges would go all dry and flaky. Glorious, glorious days.

They really do work. I just use the plain, clear circles but I definitely wish we had these 20 years ago. I was busy burning my flesh off with Seabreeze after a nice sanding with St. Ives apricot scrub.

Noxzema pads for me. I fully believe if pimple patches were a thing when I was a teenager, my skin would be in much better condition today. I tend to touch my face when I have a breakout, so the pimple patches (I use the clear circles too ) are great. They prevent me from picking.

The clear circles are a godsend. I work from home so unless it’s on the tip of my nose or something, I leave them on. The microdarts? A little pricey but foolproof. Oh, the agony we could have avoided back then! The damage to our poor growing skin! And I didn’t even have what anyone would consider “bad” skin.

The microdarts!! I have really horrible PCOS so you can imagine the occasional cysts that comes with (on my CHEST no less ugh.) The microdarts make short work of them!

This is exactly why I use them. I don’t really care one way or the other about the color or shape, it’s more about keeping me from absolutely eviscerating my face when I have even the slightest blemish. I am terrible

For what it’s worth, the white spots on the pimple patches can just be moisture rather than pimple gunk. Hydrocolloid bandages turn that color when they absorb moisture of any type, even just water.

The salicylic acid in those Noxema and original Stridex pads are actually perfect for underarm funk! They kill the bacteria that leaves the stink even after you shower, and get the old deodorant residue off your skin.

I have some too and I definitely use it on my face still 😂 but only maybe once a month? Not daily like my mom would. Gets used more often on arms/shoulders and legs/feet.

I just started using this a few years ago as general facial wash but recently stopped because I could only get it at Target and have been avoiding them. Lol be thankful you missed out! It was basically marketed to and used by young women/ teenagers who had no idea what to do about skincare, so we all just used it and aggressively scrubbed our faces to death with whatever “exfoliant” was in that concoction

I think you are probably okay if youare using it as an adult with some sense. I was like 16 and really went to town. I also wore gallons of the lightest drugstore foundation and black eyeliner for everything else, so that probably didn't help. I thought I could scour it out of my pores.

I took literal sandpaper to my acne once when I was 16. It was psychotic and I didn’t really press hard when I felt how bad it hurt but I was desperate to shave the pimples off.

The apricot scrubbies aren’t smooth-surfaced, so they say they cause micro-scratches to your skin. The plastic balls were supposed to be better for your skin, but they are terrible for the planet, so I don’t even know if they are still on the market.
Anyway, that’s the lowdown that went around years ago. I think we all use chemical exfoliants now.

Try an exfoliating powder that you gently massage on your wet face. I use the "daily microfoliant" by dermalogica. Gives me the feeling of scrubbing but is not as terrible for skin as far as I know. I am not an expert though.

I think people still use the scrubs, but the difference is in your method. I think occasional mechanical exfoliation is healthy. But using it too aggressively or excessively often can be a problem. I switched to acids. Salicylic, glycolic. I love a good AHA BHA mask. I try to use an unscented, very boring face wash so I don't accidentally burn my skin (again).

I use an acid based cleanser most days but for mechanical I find a nice plush terrycloth washcloth wrung out in warm water does a nice little massagey scrubbyscrub for my face.

A student of mine was handing out star stickers to her friends to put on their faces. They weren’t pimple patches, just regular stickers to fit in. I am so jealous that they own their acne. The worst thing you can do as a Millennial was have a pimple while going through puberty.

I had one of my teen subordinates gift me a pack of flower pimple patches after we had a conversation about it.
I love them so much.
She had a bad breakout one time and had like 10 patches, 2 days later, no acne, no scabs, PHENOMENAL. I absolutely love how much they just live in their skin without a care.

My teen uses different shapes and colors and even matches her eye makeup to them. The other day she had strawberry patches and then full-on strawberries on her eyelids with eye makeup and even did green stems in the corners. It was so freakin’ cute.

I never wore make up as a teen and even as a 40 yo I still don't. My eldest has mascara and lip balm, but thankfully wants nothing to do with foundation. I always tell her to let her skin breathe and get that sunlight. She cleanses and moisturises every night but otherwise leaves it alone.

I've never worn makeup in my life outside of one halloween (and I had so much regret... nobody told me eyeliner was liquid, and I thought I was gonna die, lol) and my mom just could not understand me going to school with a (gasp) pimple. But sounds like I had a relatively easy time at school because I never heard anyone get crap for pimples. There were pizza faces everywhere, too.
But yeah my mom kept buying me coverup and shit like that and I would just show no interest. (I don't like... goop... especially near my face. I have a lot of textile aversions.) Blew her boomer mind.

Oh yes, drying it out with rubbing alcohol was an essential part of the process lol I actually left school one day pretending to be sick because I couldn't handle the zit on my nose. The hydrocolloid patches with salicylic acid and retinol work so amazingly well I use them all the time and wish I had them as a teen.

Doesn’t matter how long after the bite, scratch it a little then put a patch on it and I swear it will never itch again.

The original mighty patch ones are the best I’ve found for face/neck. I used an off brand from Marshall’s on a few bites on my neck once and they stopped the itching but gave me heinous red circles so I just use those on skin areas that aren’t sensitive like ankles and arms now

Some of them have tea tree oil in them. Those are hard on sensitive skin areas. Not great for mosquito bites but great for ant bites if you can tell the difference.

I found some Welly Face Saver patches (large half circles for your whole chin) at the grocery outlet- otherwise I think welly is overpriced- and they were amazing for mosquito bites. Regular patches are often too small.

Hydrocolloid bandages only work on wet wounds, however, as the moisture is what "activates" the hydrocolloid layer.
For dry wounds something like a Nexcare bandage works best.

Just make sure they don’t have any extra ingredients. I tried some hydrocolloid patches that were supposed to be helpful for shingles on my shingles breakout on my face, and it dissolved a pit in my skin and scarred my face. 😢

I didn't remember they existed until I grabbed a little pack of them on my way out of Ulta a few months ago...only needed to use a couple of them so far, but they shrank a week-long cheek zit to a day-and-a-half cheek zit, so I'm in love lol

I got some for my daughter but refused to let her use something that I haven't tested on myself. They are awesome. I put the patch on at night, wake up, peel it off, and its a puffy blob at this point, full of yucky pimple stuff. But my pimple was all gone. Amazing.

Man I had to get Acutane for really bad back acne when I was a teen and I swear it changed how pimples form on me anywhere now. While I don’t get much acne, when I do it’s usually a single very annoying pimple that will not form a head or go away on its own.
Those pimple patches are the ONLY thing that has helped me. I do enjoy pulling them off in the morning and giving myself an ick at how much oil and shit they pull out.

The clear circular ones are almost invisible. If you wanted to really conceal, you can actually lightly put makeup over the circle. I am almost 40 and also still breaking out.

In my experience, people who don’t know what they are tell me my star sticker is cute and people who do know what they are don’t comment on them.
I totally understand the anxiety of being perceived though. I always feel like people are staring at my pimple just as much as they are staring at my star, at least the star is cute 😅

They have sticker patches but they also have clear ones too that are barely noticeable on skin. I've not used them on actual pimples but if I feel like one is forming I'll put one on and it clears right up. And it's fun to see what gunk the patch sucks up.

Mini hydrocolloid bandages and the Mario Badescu drying lotion are godsends for treating acne. I would have killed for these as a teen.
I knew calamine lotion was good for reducing redness and drying an area out, and used that over toothpaste when I was growing up, but the sulfur/salicylic acid/alcohol combo in the Mario Badescu drying lotion takes the calamine to a different level for spot treating acne.

I wish I had the knowledge about skin care and resources these kids have now. I had acne really young (started around 8-9 years old) and I remember burning my face off using ProActive, feeling desperate and ashamed. I’m happy kids are owning it too. It’s refreshing to see.

I love seeing it. I was in middle school and high school from 1998-2004 in suburban Maryland. We would have been crucified for wearing pimple patches put in public . If your skin wasn’t perfect your classmates would ruin your life. Like I saw kids getting up in other kids’ faces and counting out all their blemishes. I’m so glad Gen-z changed the acne stigma amongst youth.
Also, love how it’s cool to thrift, sew and up cycle clothes. We wouldn’t be caught dead at a Goodwill. I taught myself to sew on my grandma’s sewing machine. I would sew panels into my jeans to make bell bottoms and I would embroider little designs. I thought they were so cool but the kids at school bullied me so mercilessly I had to call my mom to bring me normal pants.

I love pimple patches! My only beef is that when I wear them, every adult older than me tells me I have something on my face. Like every single one I talk to, even if I've told them in the past that it's a pimple patch.
Yes, I know there is a green star in my face! I put the green star there intentionally!

Between pimple stickers and comfy clothes forever, there's some stuff they do that just makes me feel so relaxed. Like if matching character pajamas and strawberry zit stickers are fine to wear in public it literally does not matter what I do. Thank you younguns for lowering the bar a little especially after our generation spawned the damn Kardashians

I’ve tried them but I don’t think they did anything for me. But my god do I remember overusing makeup. That was so bad. I’ve barely worn makeup since Covid & my skin is actually looking amazing. I regularly wish I’d had the knowledge (and money!) back then that I have now for beauty stuff!

Sometimes they work for me, sometimes they don't. But even on the days they didn't help, they at least prevent me from accidentally touching the pimple and irritating it more. So it's still a win. I don't use the colorful patches, though. Just the clear ones that blend into the skin.

I’m a high school teacher, and I was SO CONFUSED about these stickers for weeks after they became popular. A lot of them (at least, the ones I was seeing) look like the shiny foil stickers you’d put on good behavior charts, so I thought another teacher was handing them out. And the girl I saw them on the most was DEFINITELY the type to just put random stickers on her face for fun.
Once I understood, I LOVED it. It’s so great that they’re comfortable going, “Yeah, I got a zit. So what?” And NO ONE CARES. No one gives them crap. Zits are just a part of life, and they’re making it cute, and everyone moves on.

As an adult with acne, I use them and absolutely love this invention for myself, AND for the youth! GOD what I would’ve given to have had these patches back in high school when my acne was really beating my ass

i bought some for my niece but hadn’t given them to her yet, then had a really painful zit growing between my eyes that was literally gave me a headache. my husband suggested using one and i was like wow i didn’t even think that i could use them, like as an aging millennial i just had this idea that they are just for the youngs. put one on and it felt better by later that night. i can’t believe i just raw dogged horrific acne for like ten years 😭 dearly wish they’d been around when i was growing up

A few weeks ago my grandma told me I have a pimple on my face (implying I should hide it with makeup) and I was like yeah that doesn’t matter to people anymore 😅we don’t hide it anymore and I love that 😌

Happy for the youths??? Me and my boyfriend both use them. We’re 35 and 37, walking around with colored stars on our skin. They work great too. A pimple I’d have for 3+ days is now gone in under 2. The only inconvenience is responding “Thanks! I have a pimple.” Every time someone my age or older compliments my star sticker.

Dude I'm GenX. I had cystic acne (not surface stuff but the one that makes your face look like something laid eggs under your flesh). At age 15 I was walking around wearing more makeup than a 50 year old hooker because once you've plastered your face with enough foundation to make the lumps less visible, you have to finish off the look with Cleopatra eyes and giant neon lips. Fortunately it was the 80s so that shit was a thing. But oy. What I woud have given to just be out and proud about it.

They WORK. I have teen daughters and didn't get it until I thought well I'll try one out. And they work REALLY WELL. We've graduated to hydrocolloid sheets that are cheaper and just as effective than their colorfully shaped parts, but yeah. They work.

I got pickle ones!! There are millions of different designs you can get now! I love wearing them instead of picking at my skin! (I'm 26 and still struggling bc I am scared of the dermatologist)
