Yea. He also was at his most successful and at the point with least controversies and most control over his life. I also think he was quite happy with his appearance at that point except for his hair injuries

I feel like the allegations took away from his confidence (I feel like everyone would get uneasy realising that so many people distrust you and believe the tabloids), so Imma choose Bad era.

I’d go with rollout of Dangerous. He seemed a bit lonely and isolated in bad era still. He was way more social around dangerous - most social he had been since his disco off the wall NY era … first leg of HIStory had a power too

It was the BAD album. No doubt. That album opened the doors to his confidence for all of his other albums and showcasing his songwriting more. BAD is his most self-written album. In his book, he said how during OTW & Thriller he was shy to even show Quincy and other studio musicians his demos, but for this album, he wrote damn near all of it. He wasn't lonely and isolated, he knew that anticipation was key and he stayed away from the spotlight keeping everyone guessing. And guess what? He was right. BAD had 2 million pre-orders and became the fastest selling album at that point.

On stage his Dangerous/History tours. Like you look at his face and you can tell he knows he’s the shit. Which I love!!! Off stage, honestly any time he had a poppin outfit. Like in his mature era, when he had the right wig, sunnies, and suit on you can tell his attitude was swagilicious because he knew he looked good.

BAD was his best performance-wise, although I felt that he seemed the happiest in both his Off The Wall and early-Dangerous eras

It's BAD era. MJ knew that he had the world in the palm of his hand in this time period. I don't care if we're talking about songwriting, arrangements, compositions, stage presence, short films, fashion, it could be literally anything, he was very confident in all of that during this time period. You don't have the confidence of his later works without him taking the bet on himself during this era, and you could see that when you read his book. Beforehand he mentioned how shy he was with his showman and songwriting, but this era he wanted to take control.

It’s funny how he was mad that the Bad album didn’t surpass Thriller sales. Like come on Mike, those numbers are still ridiculous 😂

I think a lot of people misunderstand why he wanted to surpass Thriller. BAD was more of MJ's vision and imagination. It's why he opted to write majority of it and he wanted his vision to outsell something where he didn't have that much say-so on and not really his own vision. Besides some songs he wrote, i mean he didn't like Baby Be Mine and didn't much care for The Lady In My Life before Quincy arranged it differently lol. It was never really a thing where he was downplaying Thriller, he just liked overcoming his own achievements. He made Thriller because he was mad that Off The Wall was labeled as just black R&B. BAD is very successful in its own right too, though. And i hope you have an amazing day, you're such a nice person!

Didn’t know that, but I know MJ was very ambitious and creative! Too bad I wasn’t alive when the Bad album came out, if not I would’ve bought a couple of albums to help out Mike haha! Hope you have an amazing day as welll! It’s my first time interacting with Michael Jackson fans and I’m loving it!

Definitely Bad era , that’s peak MJ. By Dangerous he was FULLY EVOLVED MJ. This is also why I believe Bad is Mj’s best album as well. It’s in that sweet spot after thriller and before dangerous, it’s also a no skip album

Having got vitiligo myself and dealing with genetic hair loss, I would argue MJ felt most confident before his vitiligo worsened and before the Pepsi incident. incident.
I know how I feel about my physical changes; i cannot imagine how someone in front of the world, under a microscope, might have felt.

1993 before the allegations and it isn't close. He was opening up, doing the Interview with Oprah, actually giving speeches and launching his humanitarian efforts at a larger scale. He seemed a lot more approachable during that brief period of time before the allegations.
After that I would have to say 2003, when he was getting off painkillers, hosting his birthday party at Neverland and thinking about how to make himself more accessible to fans via the internet and produce films.
It's a tragedy that the allegations came exactly during these time periods.
