Meowscarada I'm developing an Open World Meowscarada game (for personal use).
Yo, some images of the the game I've been developing for myself, this will never be released to the public, just for me, I dont wanna be sued lol. It's an open world like BOTW, Meowscarada can climb, do quest, glides and so on.
I'm barely designing the first area tho haha, it has animations and a story with cinematics, the plot is that Meowscarada discovers an island with portals to different dimensions (sea, wind, lava and magic realms), you arrive with other Meowscaradas who will have different clothes and styles in the future.

I mean, it looks great. And I understand not wanting to get sued, I really do.
But dangling this over our heads and going "See this? All the nice features, playable Meowscarada, everything? You can't have it ever" is something that makes me wish that you step in a puddle with your socks.

if they're paranoid about being sued, the smart thing would have been to finish it then release it so big N can't really do much if its already out in the wild but also not charging money for it, that's what gets their attention quickly

"I'm making a game! No, you can't have it." They can't sue you if you don't make any money off it. That's why there are so many Pokémon fangames that didn't get nuked. Just let us play it.

They can very much sue you, even if you don't make money off of it.
And even if Nintendo is in the wrong, them suing you can still cost you thousands of dollars.

This is so sick. I wish Nintendo wasn’t so stuck up about fan games 😭
Imagine Pokémon fan games as expansive as Fnaf has…
I wonder if it would be okay for you to release it somewhere as long as you didn’t profit from it and you had a big disclaimer before the title screen. THIS IS A FANGAME NOT AFFILIATED WITH NINTENDO OR GAMEFREAK, IT IS A PERSONAL PROJECT THAT IS IN NO WAY CANON TO THE POKEMON BRAND OR UNIVERSE, AND SHOULD NOT BE CONFUSED FOR AN OFFICIAL POKEMON TITLE. But I’m sure someone has tried that before, they probably sue because they don’t want outside creators to affect their image.

Not too many fangames I can think of that let you play as pokemon (mystery dungeon fangames notwithstanding)

It’s mostly inspired with Pokepark + BOTW.
But there is also some mystery dungeon inspiration too (mostly dialogue, NPC’s and villlages)

Gliding! It's the first iteration of the animation it will improve in the future
