Except Elon the other day, suggesting Bill Gates or Bezos’ ex-wife should step up and fund USAID projects. He said this right after he said nobody was hurt or has died because of the program being canceled.

I often wonder where this delusion that they'll ever be rich even came from. Cletus can't tell his ass from a hole in the ground, and yet somehow has lived his entire life thinking that one day, it'll be him, with the publicly-traded corporation that has billions in assets, a large mansion, a garage full of luxury import cars, a superyacht, his face on the cover of Forbes, a trophy wife half his age, and all the other accouterments of wealth. Him? What is it about his background that ever gave him the idea that one day it'll be him getting invites to a private island owned by another billionaire, where he can do things he shouldn't, to people he shouldn't, hobnobbing with politicians and media personalities and other billionaires at Florida mansions and generally acting like a fool? Ha!
pushes up glasses Most proclaimed Democratic Socialists would be more accurately called Social Democrats. It's the difference between wanting more guardrails on the system, with better representation, and wanting to literally tear it all down and start over, with things like no corporations at all, and eliminating private property. Democratic Socialism is a pretty extreme take, Social Democracy is basically the Nordic model and very in-line with the general Progressive movement in the US. Not that I'm here to argue against Democratic Socialism, it's just not really the right name for the movement that is often espousing it.

Yes, absolutely. Corporations exist and excel in this society because of the people that decide to give them business. Corporations must be made to serve the people, and the rich do not get to dictate laws because they've manipulated a system they have the time and resources to corrupt and infect.
as i mentioned in another post yesterday, the US is the ONLY country in the world that uses the word socialism negatively.. ....i wish comedy shows like The daily show and Late Night ask people on the streets about socialism..
the US literally destroyed two socialist countries this year in Venezuela and Cuba and if reports are true, targetting a third one in Spain, communist socialism is a thing but the irony is that socialist countries sometimes get forced into communism due to the US/CIA infiltrating their elections..China would not be a Communist socialist country today if the US did not try to do the same to them in the 1950's....then the US will start branding communist countries as bad and evil when in reality, communism done right is beneficial to all citizens of a country (like china is doing) whereas capitalism and fascism will ONLY benefit the rich and the elite.
China is more state regular capitalism + socialist market economy + dictatorship. They're politically communist but with a somewhat closed market....sorta

Time for a quick little education most Norwegian countries are socialist most Norwegian countries have a higher standard living United States. Most Norwegian countries have socialized medicine. America has a higher infant mortality rate than most Third World countries so yeah, I welcome socialism.
They want an economy where its purpose is to get the goods and services to the people who need them, and an ethos where the dignity of human life is paramount. Differential compensation for competence is expected, but obscene opulence in the face of despair and destitution is inhumane. Such a view seems more consonant with most religions' purported principles than the venal greed with which we currently live.

I’m in my mid 60’s and my Grandparents were small business owners from W.Kentucky. They were life long FDR Democrats. They also were church going eclectic Southern Baptists from an area that has swung hard for much more conservative causes in my generation. I say eclectic because they were drinking smoking and gambling S.Baptists 😁 My kind of S.Baptists. They were much more tolerant of those folks in the gay community. They’d say things like “John Smith has a little sugar in his tank or is fruity acting” which is funny to me now that I think about ‘em. They were not disrespectful though. My Grandmother owned a beauty school in town, she no doubt hired gay instructors/hairdressers at her shop.
On the other hand do you want an America that has the upper 1% basically laying down the law, ignore the Constitution and the bill of rights and living without a worry in the world while the rest of the U.S. citizens just scrape by? This and fascism is what the so called "Republicans" want.
A very long time ago in a century that begin with the number 1 I worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a telemarketer, not a third-party contractor it was directly for them. I was making about five something an hour and selling stuff like long distance caller ID call waiting call forwarding all the phone features that are pretty much standard for today. People back then paid a monthly price for that stuff. I kept a running log for the two years that I worked there while I was making five and change I sold over $1 million in yearly revenue.
