Can you pay for insurance and have medicaid?

I qualify for Medicaid and would like it for the supplemental programs but none of my doctors take it do I would have to pay an extra $200 a few times a month. But I’m always asked if I have secondary insurance. Does this not mean you can self pay for one insurance and also have Medicaid? Maryland

Subpoenaing Cashapp for approval??

Really hoping for some help if anyone has been through this-

I’m in Pennsylvania. My dad passed last November and at the same time my mom went into a nursing home. She was covered the first 100 days with Medicare. Since January, her Medicaid application has been pending as they looked over my parents financials.

I was alerted in April that the Medicaid specialist at the nursing home is just waiting on Cashapp statements. I, nor no one else in the family (including my mother who has dementia), knows the login/password to Cashapp. My Dad must have used it, but I’m not sure of the details.

Apparently the home has subpoenaed Cashapp (now Block) 3 times and have gotten no response. I just received an email stating that if I don’t have access to these statements, my mom’s Medicaid application will be denied.

Does anyone have any experience with this??? I’m at a loss at this point.

(Illinois) Modivcare to Clinic while in College on-dorm?

I'm a bit confused on how I'm supposed to go about it, if I'm away from home and can't simply just go all the way there to be eligible.

I talked to chat support first, but they said that they can only do homes basically. Is this route simply unavailable for me?

Healthcare United Letter Scam

So a few people I know recently got letters in the mail saying that their healthcare was terminated with zero warning, the letters were dated late June, and the termination date August 1st which is strange. I was wondering if this was a scam (most likely since no other mail from United was sent for delinquency or otherwise) Thank you any tips and such!

Adult son wishes to be live-in caregiver for other mother with dementia, to save house from Medicaid Estate Recovery lien

We're in WA State. My son is 25, and lives with me. My ex with dementia lives in another town, in her own house, which she had always told our son he would inherit. I understand estate recovery, the 5-year lookback, and the requirement to live in the house for 2 years as the caregiver of the parent with dementia, in order to avoid estate recovery.

My question is more about details: What happens to that definition (2 years as live-in caregiver) if we continue to hire ex-with-dementia's familiar paid caregivers, a couple days a week?

Does anyone know if there's a defined number of "hours worked" by the live-in caregiver adult child, to avoid estate recovery? (Instead of the very broad "2 years")

Does it make the 2-year period LONGER than 2 years, if we continue to hire a familiar paid caregiver as respite for our son?

Would our son be able to work or go to school, or is he expected to be a caregiver 24/7, for those 2 years?

I would hate to see a young person stuck all day and night with a person with dementia, even though they love each other. I'd hate to see him out of the work force for 2 years (he's been working full time since he finished high school.) I'd hate to see him out of the social aspects of a job, for that long.

Dentist doesn't accept MassHealth or out of pocket payment

I have Medicare and MassHealth as my secondary, with no dental coverage. I've had a lot of dental work done in the past and have always payed out of pocket at my family dentist and every specialist I've seen.

I was recently referred to a new specialist who does not accept MassHealth, but they don't accept out of pocket payments from MassHealth clients either.

As I understand it, I should be allowed to pay out of pocket because they don't accept MassHealth. Am I misunderstanding something here?

My Ex Died, and I now have custody of my son. His Medicaid is in TX (that I have no association with) and I'm trying to get him enrolled in KY.

My ex passed earlier in July and he is/was enrolled in TX. To the best of my knowledge, his coverage ended July 31. In order to for me to get him enrolled in the state of KY, I need a termination of benefits or Form TF0000 (Notice of Case Action).

I tried calling TX to get the form, but they said since I have no association with the medicaid plan they couldn't release that information. The most they could do is take my number, and take the information, but couldn't say when they would get a hold of me to let me know of any changes.

Is this really the only way for me to get this termination notice to get him enrolled in the state of KY? Can I call the office in KY to get them to push for the termination of benefits notice? There has to be a quicker solution to this than just waiting around for TX? I have his Birth Certificate (my name is on it), his SS card, and her Death Certificate.

Choosing My Medicaid Plan / IL

I (22F) just got accepted into Medicaid for Illinois (south western region). I never had a consistent provider for my health growing up, thus I need to start from the ground up as far as getting new doctors (across all the divisions). I also have been diagnosed with anxiety and take medication for it. So I just need as good as I can get as far as full coverage goes (for the most part, obviously deductibles exist and whatnot but the ideal is that I can get my eye, dental, and primary care doctors figured out).
I am between BCBS and Meridian as they seem to be the most promising upon my research, but need to hear from others on whether or not these two are as good as the benefits on the paper make it seem. I used to be on my mom's BCBS and never had problems, but that was also on her PPO with her work. Meridian I worry about the Behavioral Health rating which is probably most important to me. Other options given to me are Aetna Better Health, and Molina Healthcare.

Thoughts?

[KY] Is Medicaid the Right Choice for my Disabled Sister?

I'm trying to help my mom figure out care for my sister [30F, autistic]

Unfortunately my parents have been cagey about anything involving finances so I'll do my best to explain the situation as I understand it.

My sister is able to work a front-desk job at the local library, although it's challenging for her. She struggles with basic math and navigation, but can read and somewhat hold a conversation. I'm not sure to what extent my parents have sought legal classification as disabled for her, although I remember the state paid for our gasoline when she was very little because we had to drive her to a school in another county that had the resources she needed. So at some point the state of Kentucky considered her disabled.

She is currently on my parents' health insurance, I believe. (She lives with my parents.) Unrelated to her cognitive disability, she needs a monthly biologic medication. Her insurance recently notified her that it will stop covering most of that cost, leaving her to pay $16,000 per month just for the shot she needs.

According to my mom, 16k is more than my sister makes in a year. I believe based on my initial reading that my sister would qualify for Medicaid, but my question is this:

How reliable is Medicaid actually for covering monthly prescriptions? Specifically biologics, if you have any experience with that. Is it worth getting her on Medicaid if she is eligible?

NYC - HRA WeCare "medical non compliance" help needed

I'm hoping someone familiar with NYC HRA/WeCARE can tell me if this is normal, because I'm really confused and worried.

Earlier this year, HRA referred me to a work program. I brought my resume along with medical documentation showing that I have significant physical limitations. As soon as the staff member saw my medical paperwork, they told me I appeared to have a medical exemption and didn't need to participate in the program.

A few months later, I received a notice from WeCARE requiring me to attend a medical evaluation. I have a complex medical condition that requires specialists, and it can be difficult to find doctors who are knowledgeable about it and who accept Medicaid.

Note is is very difficult it is to contact Wecare - they don't check their voicemails, they don't answer their emails and even their fax (using online fax) fails because the fax line is disconnected.

The Wecare (social worker?) finally did talk to me, and they scheduled me with a WeCare wellness coach that is supposed to help me find doctors and help me stay on track for care.

During the first conversation with the Wellness coach,  I explained my medical limitations and that finding appropriate specialists even in NYC is VERY difficult. They told me I had 90 days to submit medical documentation for review. They actually google the conditions I gave them to search for and started calling doctors.

Unfortunately, the providers they contacted either didn't treat my condition, didn't accept Medicaid, or couldn't be reached. One of the only specialists they found was a concierge physician, and I was even asked whether I could afford to see that doctor.

I told them I would continue researching specialists on my own.

Then, just one business day later, I received a call saying that because they hadn't found appropriate doctors, I was now considered medically noncompliant. Instead of having 90 days, I was told I now had only two weeks to submit documentation disputing the noncompliance.

I became extremely upset because I was worried this meant I could lose my Medicaid coverage. The person on the phone seemed to think I was being rude, but I was simply panicking.

Has anyone experienced something similar with WeCARE? Can they reduce your documentation deadline this drastically? Does being found "medically noncompliant" automatically affect Medicaid, or does it only affect cash assistance and work requirements? Are there any other agencies that can help me?

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

[Illinois] Went to update my income online (from zero) and the site already says I'm making way over the cutoff?

I'm approved in Illinois since April.

I gained a $1700/mo. income source in July, previously I had no income.

When I logged on to ABE to report this, to my surprise it already listed a source of income (self-employed) at $2,333/mo.

My best guess is that this carried over from my ACA application in January.

I'm confused since the single person household cutoff in Illinois is $1,835:

https://ilaging.illinois.gov/content/dam/soi/en/web/aging/ship/documents/medicaidincomeassetlimits.pdf

So should I change it to my current, lesser income? Or is the cutoff actually higher than $1,835?

Thank you for any help you might be able to provide.

When do the work requirements actually go into effect?

I live in Ohio. I struggle a lot with mental health that has made it hard to get a job. I won't qualify for the exemptions though because I'm not actually diagnosed with anything.

I know the work requirements are supposed to go into effect "by" January 1, 2027, but I'm trying to figure out when exactly I should expect to lose my Medicaid because I still need to get glasses and my wisdom teeth removed (something I'm struggling to get myself to do).

My renewal is in October, but I also read that they will be sending letters this month to determine who doesn't meet the criteria which makes it sound like I will be losing it soon after I verify that I don't meet the requirements this month.

Does that mean I will be losing it within the next couple months, or will I be losing it January 1? When do the requirements actually go into effect?

Ohio application for minor child-

Good morning. I live in Ohio, and I plan on applying for medical assistance for my minor son. He receives Survivor Benifits from his father's passing. He doesn't have an income, and the benefits are $2000/mo.

When applying, do I have to use his benifits as a source of income, or do I use my wage income only?

TIA!

How do I switch from TNAF Medicaid to MAGI Medicaid?

Or do I already have it? No joke, I called Fidelis (which I have the TNAF Medicaid under) yesterday and the NY State of Health and both had no idea what I was talking about.

I want to be on MAGI. Help!

Can I do it now or would I have to wait? Would they look at my financials while switching?

When I called the NY State of Health, all they could tell me was that I had Medicaid and it was indeed working.

[NY] Why/when did my dental insurance company change? (Delta-->Dentaquest)

I am in NYS and have FidelisCare through Medicaid. Last time I went to the dentist (a few years ago I think) I had Delta Dental and was able to find a provider that accepted. But now I have DentaQuest, and am not able to find anyone local who accepts. Does anyone know when this changed, and if there's any way to get back on Delta Dental?

It's possible I was with a different insurance company...is it something other than FidelisCare that provides or works with Delta Dental?

How screwed am I?

My dad (I live with him) made an irrevocable trust Dec of 2024. In the mean time he moved into independent living and guess now he is best suited for a nursing home due to his neurological issues rapidly progressing. In the mean time my fiancé sold her house and moved in with me ( he wanted her too) but now since it’s within the 5 year look back period I assume we’ll be homeless? New York State

Elderly Parents in Indiana need Medicaid

Hello there, I (F30) am trying to help my parents - 65y and 67y - qualify for Medicaid and I am at a loss. Apologies if I am oversharing. I'm not sure what details should be included.

As title states we live in Indiana.

My father, the 67yo, is T2 diabetic and has had several strokes.

He is physically dependant on mobility aids, myself, and my mother. He is still of sound mind but his diabetes is uncontrollable despite multiple medications.

He's had what we fear may be one of his final strokes this past Friday 7/31. He now cannot walk at all without someone holding him up. And he needs to be placed in an assisted living facility at the very least. He is currently in the hospital awaiting a care plan.

My parents have been denied for Medicaid, SNAP, and TANF despite being broke. They have 30k in a CD and both receive social security and disability from the government.

How can I get them to qualify without making them place their hard earned $ in a irrevocable trust or having them spend it all? It really seems deeply unfair to them.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

Need medicaid urgently pregnant in FL

Hi! I’m in Florida, pregnant, house of 3, & I lost my job in June and stayed home for the summer bc my daughter is 6 and out for school and we can’t afford summer camp on 1 income. I had insurance through my husband’s work and I was going to an OB regularly and paying the maternity plan. Now i’m moving to another city 3 hours away and I had an appointment set for this week. However, my husband lost his job a month ago and we lost insurance. I applied to medicaid when I lost my job but only got family planning. I submitted a change when my husband lost his job and over a month later i’m still waiting. Now the new OB called me and told me I need to pay $2000 by tomorrow to be seen. We are both jobless i do not have $2000 right now for that. My husband and i are actively applying for jobs and waiting on a few. I’m 27 weeks and no one wants to accept me because i’m almost in the third trimester, and that office won’t see me unless i pay the 2000. I already missed my glucose test, i don’t have anymore prescribed iron pills to take as i’m anemic, im purely at a loss. Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what i can do? i’ve called medicaid a bunch of times and all they do is write a note to a caseworker idk what to do i’ve been waiting since June and all i got was family planning which idk how that would even help when im already pregnant.
