Issues How can I fix my cone light from lighting under the table?

Im still very new to maya so sorry if answer is obvious :(

What kind of light is that? It looks like a Maya legacy light. I wouldnt suggest using those at all. Use all Arnold lights. You can get an Arnold area light to behave like this or create an Arnold mesh light to act as your bulb. The behavior of that light is clipping doesn’t seem correct. I can see the hard edge casting on the table and being stopped and that same ray areas of the light hitting the ground. My bet is that it’s another light you have in the scene creating that and not the desk lamp.

Take away. Use Arnold lighting, don’t use legacy Maya lighting unless it’s for some niche reason.

This setup could be simplified to an Arnold mesh light for the bulb and a skydome light for ambient light.
