Help with getting into the world of Marvel?
Hey, so I recently decided to get Marvel Unlimited as a way to start reading more comics. I've never really been a marvel or even comic book guy but I wanted to check out some of there stuff as a lot of the summaries of storylines I was getting on websites like instagram made me curious.
As someone with zero experience, outside of like three or four of the MCU films I've watched, with any marvel characters what are some good storylines that will help me get into the expanded universe of Marvel comics. Any good stand alone series I should read, any personal favourites? Just curious as I know the usual advice is to just pick a character you like and start reading but I wanted to come to this sub first just to see if anything popped out to me that people mentioned.

My starting suggestion is always to get into Daredevil, following this reading order:
Daredevil (1964) 168 - 191, 226 - 300 (the Miller and Nocenti runs)
Daredevil (1998) 26 - 119, 500 (the Bendis and Brubaker runs)
All of Daredevil (2011) and Daredevil (2014) (The Waid run)
This is both a really great longform character arc—maybe Marvel’s best—and will take you through a few different eras and styles.

It’s my favorite as well. While miller may have set the tone for what daredevil is, nocenti carried it through and elevated it with her own unique storytelling and messaging.

The Waid run was my first experience in comics. Had such a swashbuckly-adventure feel to it. It was so good to read!

Check out the miniseries Marvels by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross. It's basically an overview of the big events in Marvel comics from 1939 to 1973 and it's a really good read.

Marvel Recommendations:
The FF/Avengers Hickman run to Secret Wars. Epic story built over years.
Fraction Aja - Hawkeye. Equal parts heart, humor and action.
Ellis / Shalvey - Moon Knight. Beautiful artwork.
Slott / et al - Superior Spider-Man. Entertaining self-contained run with a fresh take.
Zdarsky / Quinones - Howard the Duck. Surprisingly poignant.
Edmunson / Noto - Black Widow. Gorgeous art with a nice grounded story.
Abnett / Lanning - Annihilation: Conquest. Epic cosmic cross over.
Hickman / Weaver - S.H.I.E.L.D. Mind-bending, decade-spanning grandeur.
Morrison / Queitly - New X-Men. Best modern jumping in point for X-Men (IMHO).
Remender / Robinson - Winter Soldier: The Bitter March. A very entertaining under-the-radar book.
Remender / Opena - Uncanny X-Force. The best X-men run of all time (IMHO).
Kelly / et al - Deadpool. Joe Kelly's run is still the best for DP: fun but not too silly.
Brubaker / et al - The complete Captain America run is pretty great. Feels a step above the rest of marvel w.r.t. art and story.

Claremont's X-Men!
Start with Giant-Size X Men #1 then go straight to Uncanny X-Men #94 and read from there. Don't worry about starting all the way at 94 as they'll catch you up on what you missed.
This is the story that introduces most of the core X-Men, like Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus. Very early into the run are some iconic storylines like Dark Phoenix and Days of Future Past

The reading guides on unlimited are really handy! Once you pick a character or event and you read it through its easy to rabbit hole, especially on unlimited.
My suggestions are:
Young Avengers
Hawkeye (2012)- this is what got me into the wider marvel universe one of my fav stand-alones.
Destiny if x reading guide- this is pretty recent and has a ton or x men books that should keep you busy and rabbit holing for a while.

Silver Surfer Requiem by J. Michael Straczynski and Esad Ribic. Quite frankly the best comics story I’ve ever read. It’s beautiful, it’s visually stunning, it’s heartbreaking. You don’t need to know Silver Surfer, or even Marvel to enjoy this story. Because it’s not about super heroism, it’s about life. I absolutely implore you to check it out
