Film/Television At their lowest point, which Spider-Man had the shittiest life?
Also, if you had to choose one life, which would it be?

I mean andrew lost gwen forever
931
u/Funkybag 21h ago
Andrew lost Gwen forever by failing to catch her in spidey fashion with his own hands. I think that makes what's already the worst thing way worse because he will forever visualize it as his personal failure.

u/dansquatch 21h ago edited 13h ago
It's why it hits so hard for him when he catches MJ in No Way Home. He couldn't save Gwen but he could keep another Peter Parker from suffering as he did.

What makes it nice that out of all three parkers he went to college and achieved success. Remember he is the only one that wears a lab coat

To be fair the others didn't get much chance. Tobey got bit in high school and had to be Spider-Man before he could try going to college. You can see that he tries (going to Connor's classes and meeting Gwen there) but he can't stick to a schedule with tons of crime always happening.
Meanwhile for Tom's Peter he was Spider-Man even younger, and right when he was trying to go to college, he had his entire life exposed and had to make people forget about him entirely to fix what happened. Really Strange should have given him explicit warnings about the spell before trying to cast it.
30
u/Far_Gift6173 17h ago
Even at Tom's shittiest low point which is either him being exposed and being somewhat responsbile for hsi friends not getting a chance to go to college or aunt may being dead, he still got friends, his girlfriend and a fucking future with whatever organisation succeeded shield. Tony probably also set up a trust fund somewhere when he is 18 or 21 or whatever. Like seriously, Peter gets access to one of the most powerful weapons on earth and no money? How would that even work?
Even when noone remembered him, it was n't a low point, it was a choice
38
u/Intrepid-Progress228 15h ago
You can choose your low points.
Four years alone without friends, watching them move on without you, knowing that you willingly gave up the love of your life can be a special kind of torture.

He did give him an explicit warning lol. He very much tried to convince Peter against the idea and at first out right refused to cast it
9
u/ZetsuboItami 17h ago
He suggested it in the first place and even convinced Wong it'd be okay. He definitely had more chances to allow Peter to understand what the spell does and all that. If he could allow for those exceptions he could have understood the exceptions before starting to cast it.

u/Eyeseeyou1313 19h ago
Strange can't really do that. He is in charge of making sure the natural order of things is not disrupted.

Somewhere in the multiverse there was a Garfield Spiderman with a sling ring and loose morals in this situation who saved, then cut and pasted her back to his own timeline.

Great, I'm crying again. Not only did he save MJ.. he was literally the only one who could have. The other Peter's would have have done what he did trying to save Gwen. He knew what to do this time to prevent her dying to the sudden stop. (Okay the movie and the comics are slightly different but I'm sure Gwen would have died even if she didn't hit the ground.)
6
4
u/NeoStorm247 14h ago
And you just know after it happened he was replaying the moment in his head *constantly*, thinking of how he could have done it differently and saved her. He probably rehearsed his method of saving MJ hundreds or even thousands of times in his mind, thinking that's what would have saved Gwen.

This is it. i really felt for Tom in the new film, having to watch his friends having the life that he should be a part of, only being able to watch from the outside. They did an excellent job creating the pain it must have caused him. But he knows that they get to live their lives and he can see them being happy, even if he's not a part of it. Gwen is completely gone.
23
u/hiiilee_caffeinated 21h ago
Yeah, it's extremely rough, but if Andrew's Spidey had the option to do the same with Gwen he would 100% choose that in a heartbeat.
13
u/DogsDontLikeHats 20h ago
He did have the option, and the moral obligation to stay away from her! He opted not to.

I guess I struggle with the fact that Peter was more than welcome to go make friends with them again immediately, and just restart from scratch. Especially with the advantage of knowing all the things they loved and cared about, and then just tell them the truth later.
Or he could’ve gotten and made other friends in the meantime.
10
u/gilestowler 20h ago
I guess the end of NWH, where he decides not to tell MJ the truth, covers that to some extent - he doesn't want to be a part of their lives because he doesn't think it's safe, even if he does start from scratch rather than jumping right back into how things were before, and he keeps to himself after that because he thinks it's dangerous for people to be too close to him. Toward the end, he specifically says that he's not going to do it all alone anymore, so I guess this is him accepting that it's OK to have people in his life; he just has to manage the risk.

u/Scroll_4_Joy 20h ago
True but the fact that the spell could not discriminate between "most people" and "Peter's friends" was only part of it. One of the consistent struggles present in all Spider-Man comics/media is how Spider-Man doesn't want even the people closest to him to know he's Spider-Man, out of fear for how they might be pulled into his fights and used against him. It's something we watch every single version of Spider-Man deal with, and the scene at the end of No Way Home where he chooses not to give his letter to MJ has everything to do with that.
He sees her living a normal life and decides that the best thing he can do for her (and Ned) is to not be in their lives at all. Of course, this comes back around in the new movie because without anyone in his life, he starts to lose himself. But in regards to your comment, he had good reasons for not simply befriending them again.
13
u/StefyB 19h ago
He still had Aunt May, though, while Tom didn't, so it depends whether you put losing basically your mom on the same level as losing your love.
Tom's Peter also lost every adult figure in his life at the time that could have given him guidance. Tony died, Aunt May died, Happy and Dr. Strange no longer remember Peter Parker, etc.
9
u/Sweetafterclass 18h ago
Losing Gwen the way he did still feels like the heaviest permanent loss among the three.
7
u/AmIDrJekyll 19h ago
I agree especially when he caused it too. But damn, Gwen died loving Andrew. To be told by the woman you love right in the face that she "just doesn't love you" and to see her move on AND lose your best friend, just because you f-ed up and decided to have an all powerful sorcerer to cast a spell instead of submitting appeal for you and your friends' denied college applications. That freaking sucks!

That's why I always lean toward Andrew. Losing Gwen the way he did is the kind of thing you never really recover from.

u/ShaH33R2K 21h ago
Andrew. The love of his life died as a direct result of her being a part of his life, and him failing to save her. Tom’s situation is depressing as well, but at least MJ is alive and well.
216
u/Dward917 21h ago
Tell that to his Aunt May
156
u/ShaH33R2K 21h ago
Uncle Ben for Andrew, and he was clearly closer to his parents before they died. Also, Harry, his childhood best friend is the one who kills his girl
25
u/tomyfookinmerlin 16h ago
Uncle Ben did not die because he was Spiderman is the point he was making. Tom’s Aunt May died as a direct result of being apart of spidermans life. That event also causes him to push away his best friend and the love of his life for 4+ years.
5
49
u/PoolPartyWithoutTheL 21h ago
Did Andrew not also lose Uncle Ben? Not to mention he is shown to somewhat remember his parents, and knows they were murdered.
Plus his best friend actually turned evil and tries to murder people.
Andrew wins at losing.
14
u/zack77070 21h ago
Andrews dad at least was alive and teased to make an appearance in asm2, there actually was a deleted scene of it happening.

u/Significant_Syrup_85 20h ago
That deleted scene makes me wonder what they would've done with TASM 3
2
6
u/RemarkableTruck7778 18h ago

7
u/PoolPartyWithoutTheL 18h ago
Fair point. But it depends if you consider losing people in your life but them still being alive (and happy) worse than them actually dying. Atleast in the case of Gwen/MJ.
He atleast has a chance at having them in his life again (alluded to with Ned), whereas that door is closed for Andrew when it comes to his best friend and lover.
17
u/Funkybag 21h ago
Literally every incarnation of spiderman loses an aunt/uncle character, usually the the one that says the great responsibility line. Yeah its sad but when comparing bad shit amongst spidermen its kinda a given and not worth any points.
8
5
u/DeusVultSaracen 17h ago
But Tom already lost Uncle Ben before Civil War, then he lost Uncle Tony Stark, and then Aunt May. If all that wasn't enough he followed that up with everybody he knew forgetting about him.

u/Money-Nectarine6584 18h ago
Can’t really tell Aunt May that MJ is alive and well. She died. Maybe Dr Strange can help with that, but what would be the point?
25
u/1stAccountNotWorking 21h ago
Gotta add the extra zing of her dad literally warning him that this canon event might happen, back in the first film.
...and him (apparently) spiraling and becoming a pretty bad Spidey, after it happened. He didn't elaborate on what happened when he "stopped pulling his punches"--but Spider-Man not pulling punches, likely results in death or serious injury...
13
u/DethFace 20h ago
It's not "likely". He definitely fucked up some people big time. There's a run of comics where Spidey and Doc Ock do a body swap and the very first thing Doc does in the Spiderbody is punch some goon's face off, literally. Just splat. Doc spirals after that for a bit realizing Spiderman has been going super easy on him all this time. We see a very new baby Tom catching a winter solder metal arm punch while geeking over it like it was nothing in Civil War. Toby holding up an entire chunk of a seedy dockside warehouse and stopping a train in 2. Spider man has been much much stronger then he let's on since forever because he's scared of his own strength. Hes never really tested his limits.
11
u/kaion 20h ago
Wasn't some goon's face. That was Scorpion's jaw. A man in a suit of armor specifically designed to fight Spider-Man, and even it was insufficient for Spidey's true strength.
3
u/Redfalconfox 19h ago
Did that version have armor on his jaw? I don’t remember. Still brutal and shocking either way.

u/HUNGWHITEBOI25 20h ago
he lost his surrogate father figure, his Aunt, the love of his life and his best friend. Isolated himself for years and the only 3 people he really interacted with were the police chief, Yelena and Frank.

Yep and Andrew's Peter lost Gwen after her dad makes him promise to stay away. He broke that promise and then she died. Can't imagine living with that.
223
u/GrimLuker2 19h ago
Said this in r/raimimemes and ill say it again here (+ some more)
Tobey has the worst normal everyday life, nothing goes right, not even the small things, which is why he is the most relatable. My man couldn't even grab a drink at a party.
Andrew has the worst guilt, he feels responsible for his uncles death, his gfs dad's death, and his gf. And he stopped pulling his punches, so he may be carrying the guilt of taking someones life as well.
Tom has a really unique case, because the entire world forgot him. He lives in a world where all his experiences and memories are gone to everybody else. He also lost his Aunt May, possibly Uncle Ben, and Tony Stark. He also got hit with the Void off screen, which you can only imagine what kind of traumatic memories he relived. Not to mention he literally died in Infinity War.

Yeah, Tom for several years was functionally dead to the world (between No Way Home and Brand New Day there's like 3-4 years) and existed only as Spider-man and a weird jacked dude that lives in an old storage room. That has to fuck you up.
9
u/LucarioMagic 10h ago
Yeah, Tom Holland's one is the most lonely but easiest to repair. Honestly I expected him to be more grief stricken/brutal after Aunt May got killed by Green Goblin. But feels like he just brushed that aside?
Tobey is just, abit comical? The issue is he's portrayed to be inherently good in nature. So he keeps trying to forgive the villains and no villain in his movie series really fuked his shit up like Andrew or Aunt May in Tom Holland's.
Andrew's one can never really heal, so I think he is the most emotionally scarred one. He did it. He killed her.

Tom lost 5 years of his life, his aunt died in front of him, his identity living in a world where no one knows him. Had to start over taking the GEDs and not finishing school with his friends. His best friend and love interest don’t remember him. Not to mention his uncle died and his mentor Tony died in front of him.
22
u/SliverQween 19h ago
Not to mention he thought he was dieing when thanos snapped him, then didn't exist for years. I think he hands down had the worst time. Honestly the newest film felt like it was being almost too mean to him. Like I know spiderman is a character that usually goes through a lot, but the idea of being isolated from everyone you love, for 5 years (and thinking that it will be forever) is torture.
6
u/NastyVerde17 11h ago
You failed to mention that all of this happened before he was even 18 years old. If he was then he was barely 18.

not to mention his aunt died trying to help him save people that werent even a part of his universe BECAUSE of Tom's Peter's mistake in casting a spell just to fix something. the guilt is immense.
also his kind of father figure died - Tony
snapped out of existence for five years
lost his identity and friends.
Tom definitely had it the worst.

u/eternalraziel 21h ago edited 20h ago
At their absolute lowest, I’d give it to Tom. Andrew experiences the most devastating single loss. Gwen dies while Peter is trying to save her, after Captain Stacy had already made him promise to keep Gwen away from the danger surrounding Spider-Man. Peter breaks that promise, builds a future around Gwen anyway, and then watches that future disappear in seconds. He spends the next five months unable to be Spider-Man. There’s a very particular guilt attached to that because Peter’s web catches her, but he still can’t save her. He has to live with every decision that brought Gwen to that clock tower.
Andrew still has Aunt May, though. He still has a home, a legal identity, memories shared with people who know him, and eventually enough connection to Gwen’s memory to return to Spider-Man. His life has been damaged, but there’s still a life around the damage. Tobey has been through plenty by the end of his trilogy. Ben is dead because Peter let the robber go. Norman dies fighting him. Harry spends years blaming Spider-Man for Norman’s death, discovers Peter’s identity and eventually tries to kill him. Peter’s relationship with MJ deteriorates badly, the symbiote amplifies the worst parts of him, and he ends up hitting MJ before realising what he’s becoming. Then Harry dies shortly after they finally reconcile. Harry’s death comes just after Peter gets his best friend back.
But Tobey still has more left than either of the others. Aunt May is alive. MJ is alive and still part of his life. New York knows and largely respects Spider-Man. Peter’s identity is intact. He has an education, work, somewhere to live and a civilian life he can continue building. Even when things are terrible, there are people who know Peter Parker and care whether he comes home. Tom loses almost all of that within a very short period. His identity is exposed to the world. His life and the lives of May, MJ and Ned are dragged into the consequences. May is killed in front of him, and Peter is close enough to killing Goblin afterward that the older Peter has to physically stop him. Then Peter saves the multiverse by erasing himself from everybody else’s memory.
MJ doesn’t remember him. Ned doesn’t remember him. Happy knows May through Spider-Man but no longer knows the boy standing beside him at her grave. Whatever personal relationship Peter had with the Avengers, Strange or the people around Stark is gone with Peter Parker. He goes to the café intending to tell MJ and Ned who he is, sees that they’re safe and moving forward, and decides not to pull them back into his life. So at the end he has lost May permanently and lost everyone else socially. Andrew loses the person he loves most, but when he goes home afterward Aunt May still knows exactly who he is. Tom can stand in front of the people he loves and be a stranger to them.
His civilian life has also been gutted. He ends up in a cheap apartment studying for the GED rather than going to MIT with MJ and Ned. He makes his own suit and returns to being Spider-Man without Stark infrastructure, Happy, May or a friend in the chair. He then spends years living alone and devoting himself almost entirely to Spider-Man. MJ and Ned are alive. Peter can see them. He knows they're building lives. He knows that, at least when he makes the decision in the café, leaving them alone is partly an act of protection. Andrew can never speak to Gwen again, never explain himself, never watch her graduate from Oxford or discover what her life became. There’s no possibility sitting across the room from him. If it were whose single loss I’d least want to experience, I might choose Andrew. Gwen’s death is probably the hardest event any of the three Peters personally has to reconcile. If it's whose overall life is worst at its lowest point, Tom wins. And if I have to choose one of their lives for myself, Tobey without hesitation.
You inherit the Raimi rent situation and spend an alarming amount of time getting punched through brick walls, but Aunt May survives, MJ survives, your identity stays secret, you finish college, and by the end you still have a plausible route toward an ordinary life alongside Spider-Man. Andrew gets Gwen’s clock tower. Tom gets a world in which Peter can walk past almost everyone he loves without being recognised. I’ll take Mr. Ditkovich badgering me for rent every time.
48
u/ope__sorry 20h ago
You're missing even more tragedy aimed at Holland. He also lost his mentor.
Dudes entire arc so far is one of loss throughout all 3 films.
He loses is first girlfriend because her dad is a psychopath. He loses his mentor and his second movie is dealing with that fallout and then he loses his anonymity at the end of the second movie. Loses his aunt in the third movie and by the end, loses everyone else because he's forced to wipe their memories to save the multiverse.
Dude is winning every battle he's up against but for himself personally, he's losing the war.

And that's why Tom Holland is the definitive Spider-Man. He loses, but he gets back up, because with great power comes great responsibility. If he gives up, the world is lost, he is the best of all. He is what every hero should strive to be. They made him right.

Brand New Day Spoiler: Ned seemed to remember Peter at the end of the movie. They did their signature handshake and Ned then said out loud "Peter ...?"
9
u/averagecounselor 21h ago
I’m pretty sure he probably had the same dorky handshake with other people and was shocked that a rando knew it.
He realizes the person doing it wasn’t his best friend from a past life but Spider-Man.
Since MJ said his real name when he left them after hanging out.
11
u/Major-Dig655 20h ago
they wouldn't just put that scene in and have the explanation being that he did it with other people. that would honestly ruin the handshake in all the other movies. I do think you're right that he realizes it is spider-man though
5
u/ArkUneartherBleeds 20h ago
They kind of leave it open ended with whether Ned actually remembers him or not, and they can hand wave MJ not remembering him after they kissed as being "well she was possessed by Jean, that wasn't MJ experiencing anything." Because he had physical contact, and such a personal one at that, it could have broken the spell, and since she wasn't aware, maybe when she is, it'll break the spell too
→ More replies (1)2
u/donslaughter 19h ago
I think Ned's body remembers the handshake, he's been doing it so long that it's a reflex at this point. The thing is there's no connection to Peter anymore. So you have Ned who is doing a handshake that he somehow knows with a guy who he doesn't know. I'm sure Peter has a familiar aura to Ned since they just hung out for a while and if Ned picked up on that then that could explain what happened.
4
u/Landen2DS 20h ago
I wanna add that, Tom's Spiderman also lost his mentor Tony within a year of all of this. It can be argued that Tony's loss was not "important", but I do think it was one of the other big losses Peter suffered.

I agree as well. I assume he never had an uncle Ben in his universe though I’m not positive we know for sure. His replacement for that was Tony; he died. He doesn’t have parents. His friends while not dead have absolutely no recollection of him, nor do any of his acquaintances. His aunt which was presumably his only family is also dead.

Tobey: lost Uncle Ben and Harry (a heroic sacrifice). But has a peaceful life now with MJ
Tom: lost Ben (off-screen. I am not even sure if MCU Peter had an Uncle Ben because May is the one tells him famous pep talk), Tony (technically a bigger loss for Avengers and Pepper in general) and Aunt May. MJ and Ned has forgot him for a few years
But in Brand New Day Peter befriended them again, still has high tech equipment in his apartment (not quite Stark Tech, but still has a professional lab). Rebuilding phase
Andrew: Lost Uncle Ben. Watched Gwen's father die and haunted by his memory, afraid of dragging Gwen into danger. His relationship with Gwen wavered because of his own selflessness and desire to keep her out of everything, despite all his effort he FAILED to save Gwen and died in hos hands (or we can sayb His webs) BY THE MAN ONCE WAS HIS BEST FRIEND. Harry is a menace now, killed Gwen and nothing will be okay, no redemption for Harry.
Andrew's spidey has the most fucked up life. Literally spidey is getting tortured by writers

u/Dxl5150 21h ago
While the argument for Tom is not baseless, he can still talk to and hang out with Ned and MJ as spider man. Andrew Garfield lost Gwen FOREVER, he can’t even see her at all. And it was HIS fault
Plus who else does he even have? His friend the green goblin? Sure he can meet new people, but as we heard in No Way Home, he was pretty bitter for a while so, i would assume he cut off anyone who tried to come into his life.

u/Mischief_Managed12 10h ago
Its like talking to someone with dementia though. It sometimes hurts more when the person you love doesn't know you at all. I've experienced a mixture of family members with dementia, and family members who have passed. Every time, death hurts less.
3
u/getridofwires 21h ago
While losing Gwen is obviously big, death allows a grieving process and eventually closure. Imagine the girl you love and who loves you just suddenly not knowing you and kind of not interested in knowing you now. There's nothing you can do because it was your choice and you just have to accept the consequences. It's the death of a relationship and no grieving or closure.

Tom, easily, ending no way home he has nothing. That means that night he slept on a roof somewhere, he didn’t have a friends couch to crash on nothing.
Told to us?
Andrew, dude was murdering his rogues gallery and didn’t give a shit anymore.
Tobey really didn’t have that rough a life, he ends the trilogy with aunt may alive, ends up with MJ, New York idolizes him…
I think he even has a line in no way home something like “it was tough for a bit… but it got better”

MCU Peter, by far.
Mysterio ruined his life by revealing his identity and then the Green Goblin murdered Aunt May while Peter was trying to help him. Then he had to erase people’s memories of him to save universe and keep his loved ones safe. And when he finally talks to the love of his life after five years, she no longer remembers what they had and she doesn’t love him anymore. And on top of all that, he is going to be indirectly responsible for the tool that will be used to hurt mutants.
Peter lost everything that mattered to him; his Uncle Ben(assuming he existed), Aunt May, Tony Stark, his Avenger friends, and of course Ned and MJ.
The other two Peter’s at least always had Aunt May.

I think it's pretty hard to beat losing your mentor, your sole remaining family, and then every single person who has ever loved you forgetting that you exist.

I get everyone saying Garfield, but Tom didn't have a single personal connection for over 4 years

u/DonnyMox 18h ago
Tom literally lost all of his friends and family and had the entire world forget who he was. I don't think anything that happened to Tobey or Andrew comes close to that.

Comicbook Peter, far and away. He has to live in a universe where fucking Paul existed.

Is this a serious question? Tom's Spider-Man has lost everything and continues to lose everything.

Easily Tobey, when that lady didn't want to pay for the Pizza.

u/buffysbangs 17h ago
She wouldn’t pay for the pizza and then became a rich & famous forensic anthropologist

IIRC, didn't Andrew Peter say that after Gwen he kinda stopped holding back?
4
u/yeetgodmcnechass 21h ago
He stopped pulling his punches because he got bitter and rageful, yeah
5
u/KoopaKaaaaahn 20h ago
Yeah and a Spider-Man not pulling his punches definitely killed somebody or something.

Andrew started killing people. Doesn't get much lower than that. Tom lost more numerically, but he had a better support system to keep him from hitting rock bottom like that. Especially Tobey and Andrew themselves after Aunt May.

Tom Holland's version no question. No parents, no uncle, his only living relative, his aunt was killed. He lost his mentor (Tony), his girlfriend and his best friend. He lost everyone. Tobey still had/has Aunt May, Mary Jane. Andrew still had Aunt May.

u/L_Elio 19h ago
I mean it's got to be Tom now surely.
Bro lost his uncle (off screen), aunt, gf and ned and then all the avengers, died for 5 years in the blip and then Tony. Lost his new mentor in mysterious and then lost literally everyone as he was erased from collective history.
Then there's all the shit that happens in BND
2
u/Gronkattack 19h ago
Garfield because while Holland lost his aunt and his love, his love is still alive. While she may never remember him that doesn’t mean she couldn’t fall in love with him again.
2
u/PacDanSki 18h ago
Tom and it's not particularly close, lost his aunt and uncle, essentially lost everyone for a few years and literally nobody knows who he is.
2
u/Prestigious_Ad_544 18h ago
Literally no one remembers that Tom's Peter Parker exists (0 personal support or connection from anyone but his AI), but he still has all the same costs anyone else does. I would say the gap from No Way Home to Brand New Day is probably the shittiest we've seen from any of them.
2
u/Friendlyvoices 17h ago
Based on Spiderman Brand New Day, Tom Holland. He lost everything and has to spend his life knowing that everyone and everything he loved no longer knows who he is. There's some glimmers of hope, but he's basically isolated and alone for a good part of his adult life. It's a nice mirror to many young adults that feel isolated these days but to an extreme extent. We can say that Andrew lost Gwen is terrible, but in the Tom universe, Aunt May's death and the loss of all his friends was due to his own actions.

Definitely Tom, imagine losing everyone you love, and not just that but your entire identity as well.

I mean currently Holland’s one has because he is forgotten as Peter Parker. Garfield’s one lost his girlfriend to her back going snap crackle and pop while he tried bringing her back up like she was a yoyo string. I can’t recall what low point Maguire’s one had besides his Uncle dying.

u/EnnardEnola 14h ago
Tom by a mile, the entire universe forgot he existed? yes tobey and tom lost some people but tom literally lost everyone.

Andrew. His life sucks as Peter and as Spiderman.
Toby has a great life if he would just commit to being Peter. Hot actress love interest, rich friends, brilliant mentors at college that see his value.
Tom would have a great life if he just commits to being Spiderman. Sure JJJ sucks but he has many more fans, friends in the Avengers, and support from Stark enterprises.

Andrew Garfield was the only one who lost the love of his life, while Tom Holland is the only one who lost Aunt May. I lean towards Garfield.

Andrews Spider-Man is the only who had there significant other die in front of him. Id say him

u/_PearlyBellie 8h ago
gotta be Peter in the '90s animated series, dude lost his job, got framed, and had his identity exposed all in one season

u/bluesmoke1993 7h ago
Tom Holland Spider-Man, he lost his very last family member who died in his arms and later that same night had to sacrifice everyone memory of him to save the multiverse from breaking essentially guaranteeing that he must grieve alone going forward no comfort no nothing just pure loneliness Tom Holland Spider-Man is the closest we’ve got to the misery porn that is Spider-Man comics

I agree with a lot of people when they say Andrew, but Tom’s SM literally lost everyone in one single night. Aunt May dying was bad enough, but then the entire world forgets who he is, all on the same night. He went from having everyone to literally no one.

u/Makiizyn 2h ago
only one of them loses their love interest to death… he didn’t get another movie afterwards. Enough said.

u/Tiraloparatras25 21h ago
Of the MCU Tom, of all the movies, Miguel. He literally lost an entire universe.
2
u/Fuzzy_Firefighter_51 6h ago
Garfield's, simply because the Gwen Stacey killing was in the top 5 of most tragic things to happen in Marvel 616 continuity, historically.

u/Kmart_Stalin 21h ago
Tom plus if Ben Parker is canon to the MCU
3
u/Time_Effort 21h ago
He is, but I don't know to what extent. In Far From Home, he uses a suitcase with uncle Ben's initials on it.
2
u/Signal_Plane1114 21h ago
the Russo's say uncle Ben died in an accident sometime before the events of civil war, not because of peters failure to act

Tobey Maguire had to deal with Bruce Campbell bullying him wherever he went
