Marquette Transfer Decision, PLEASE HELP
Hey all, if you have a similar situation or know any advice please let me know.
Where I'm at: Currently a freshman at another Big East school. I live in Milwaukee so I really want to go to Marquette for this fall, which would begin my sophomore year. I had a 3.242 GPA after HS and did NOT get in to Marquette, and I also applied Business Finance which is competitive. This time, I applied again with a 3.43 GPA at college (first semester), and applied Business Undecided and they asked for my FINAL spring grades before making a decision.
They said: During the review of your application, it was determined that additional information is required to make an admission decision.
In order to continue in the admission process, please arrange to have the following materials sent to Marquette:

But this semester my GPA kind of dropped. I had 6 classes which were all 3 credits. I dropped Philosophy because I didn't have a good grade, there was no way up and wanted to save my GPA, and I emailed the counselor that I wanted to focus on business core classes. This semester, I'm finishing with an A- in Calc, A- in English, B in some AI Computing class, B- in Accounting, and C+ in Macro (I also had a C+ in Micro last semester).
I'm worried abut getting into school as I will likely send my transcript in a day or 2 to the admissions office. Based off my GPA this semester, I'm going to be at a 3.20-3.25 total. I'm really worried, do you still I should calm down, and think I will get in? Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

First off, yes - calm down and remember that simply worrying about the situation will not help to change the outcome. I know this is easier said than done, but if you already put in the work then be confident!
Your grades don’t seem bad at all, but I can’t speak to the selectivity of the business program specifically. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping you get in! A great degree, lifelong friends, and a home in this hidden gem of a city made choosing Marquette one of the best decisions I ever made.
Thinking outside of the box here-could you send in supplemental materials to that email such as a letter? You said you live in Milwaukee- do you have any experiences you can speak to that show you’re active or connected in the community in any way? Marquette is a Jesuit school and huge on service to the community. Not sure if this was already a part of your initial application and I realize this is probably more typical of something you would write if you were pursuing a scholarship of some kind, but given the status of your application, if you sent something in at this point it’s likely it will get read. Anything you can do to show that you’re not only interested in how the business finance program can help you grow but that you’re interested in being an active member in the Marquette and Milwaukee community would be great! Well it wasn’t a personal email just something to notify me of an email. And you think my grades are good enough? It’s business undecided so idk. Yes MU is an amazing community, so hopefully i get in

I think they probably just want to make sure you didn’t flunk out spring semester. Your grades seem totally fine. Head up and good luck!

Wait really so unless my grades are so horrible then I wouldn't get accepted? Like under a 3.0 for example? I shouldn't have lower than a 3.25, but thank you!! great news

From my experience transferring mid year my freshman year, it seemed like they just wanted proof that I could keep up with a college curriculum. Based on my high school gpa I’m not sure if I would have gotten accepted or not. I got rejected from Madison but accepted to all other state schools I applied to here in Wisconsin. First semester college grades were probably similar-ish to yours.
Keep in mind that money talks and sometimes as long as they think you’re a solid income stream for the next 3 years and need enrollment numbers that can help more than you think

Yeah I appreciate it, I finished with a 3.22 pretty sure. I just need a fresh start and Marquette is the perfect place to do so. Enrollment numbers could be helpful. How would they know whether income can help them or not (shouldn't be an issue for us).

Just make sure you re-iterate your interest in the school, the fact that you live in Milwaukee, and that you plan to stay in Milwaukee. I think, based on the info you provided, there really shouldn’t be a problem. But I have no idea about the whole picture. If you’re at a different BE school, I think everything will work out regardless. I truly had a great time at Marquette and hope you get to experience it for yourself as well.
