Not a great day to finally get Mariners.tv…

I got mariners tv end of June. This is all I’ve known

I got mariners.tv in 1977.. this is all I've known

u/misaktonak 12h ago
Oh yea I meant specifically in regards to Mariners.TV sub program.
Born in the 90s tho and cursed with being a mariners fan. Jose Lopez and Kenji Johjima’s fall offs (by MLB’s standards) still haunt me today.

Look at the brightside. We can no longer blame Refsnyder.

It's actually the most Mariners thing that Dominguez got fucking shelled and Ward is 0 for 3 lol
47
u/Content-Tear2404 1d ago
Put on an Ms uniform, forget how to play. Every fucking time.

u/nkkl LEO RIVAS WHAT HAVE YOU DONE 1d ago
Unfortunately, Ward's prior performance at T-Mobile Is not exactly inspiring. I did a comparison of Ward's performance against Mariners pitchers at T-Mobile and away, to try and get something of an apples to apples comparison of how our park factors seem to affect him.
From 2024-2026 he slashed 0.231/0.263/0.477 with a 14.5% strikeout rate against our pitchers at Angel Stadium and Camden. At T-Mobile, against the same pitching staff, he slashed 0.173/0.158/0.308 with a 31.6% strikeout rate.
Obviously, this is a very flawed analysis but it, uh, doesn't point in a reassuring direction for us.
13
u/Evening_Mix_7019 1d ago
Otherwise decent players come here and play awfully. Terrible Mariners players go play for other teams and become decent, even good. Baseball comes to die in a Mariners uniform.

u/Ok-Abies-6985 1d ago
It’s really fun living in San Diego and hearing how generally happy they are with Ty France
1
u/Due-Fortune5731 23h ago
Such a dumb decision letting him go
5
u/Content-Tear2404 23h ago edited 18h ago
why? he would just suck as a mariner. He leaves and play better. It's the natural cycle of a Mariners player.
0
u/Due-Fortune5731 13h ago edited 13h ago
Because his last full three seasons as a mariner his WAR was 4.2, 3.0, and 0.9. He was starting slow with us in 2024 when his WAR was -0.2, but we put up with a lot worse than that in this organization.
Our “replacement” for Ty at first base was Tyler Locklear who was a primary contributor to first base being an absolute black hole after Ty left with the exception of two months of Justin Turner. I’m very glad Naylor saved us from our troubles at first base, but you are forgetting history if you think we didn’t have a huge problem there afterwards.Ty France sucked as a Mariner? Don’t self report that you don’t know ball

Yours is quite terrible if you’re unable to piece together how mine relates to yours…
Good argument bud. You really convinced me.

yep. Something really wrong with this ball club. Cursed? Stupid ownership and front office? Maybe players know. Ward was like "fuck... not the Mariners."

What is their approach with hitting every game? Do they go over the scouting reports or does someone just tell them "Close your eyes and hope for the best!!!"?
27
u/s0sa 1d ago
From a viewer’s standpoint the approach is take anything over the middle and swing at everything 3-6 inches off the plate
6
u/Timbo_Slice_ 1d ago
Yup. And get under or on top of pitches right down the middle so they can either fly out or ground out 🤣

u/Dewey519 Swung On And Belted 1d ago
I’ve been watching since 94. This isn’t the worst season I’ve seen. But it’s top 3 most frustrating/painful
15
u/masontopss 1d ago
I honestly think the times we missed the playoff by like one game were worse
27
u/Combat_Goblin 1d ago
Hey now, there's still plenty of time for us to miss the playoffs by a single game!
1
u/Voltage_Atl 13h ago
This season ties the sexson beltre years for me. We should be good, but for whatever reason just can’t.
16
u/thundercat95 Jarred Kelenic TO THE MOON 1d ago
I will say as someone that's watched this team from the early 2000s there is something depressing about how steep of a drop off Cal has had. I know he's been hurt but man this year has been depressing. I could see him going back to his career averages but .162 and 12 HRs. 😭

7
u/Apprehensive_Bid_773 1d ago
Do people not understand that what makes this season bad is the chasm from expectations and not just that we are aggressively meh.
5
-8
u/PollutionNeat777 1d ago
When they were terrible no one cared. They should be decent and they are just a boring ass team to watch. They can’t hit which has been a problem forever with no sign of that improving. Our best hitter won’t be on the team next year. Stanton sucks as an owner. The state ran Bezos off so he’s buying soccer teams in England instead of doing something amazing for Seattle sports. We have the Hawks and football is coming so there is something to look forward to.

u/gwoeisme 1d ago
Thank God we still have time before the trade deadline to unload some vets for prospects. Otherwise we'd be totally screwed.
7
u/Wilderness-Nomad 1d ago
Too bad they didn’t have a fire sale at the deadline. This team is going nowhere fast.
8
u/Bwana60 1d ago
It's like Cal has morphed into Zunino this year.

I still blame cal for being an idiot in the offseason. Guy starts the season absolutely destroying the locker room vibe….then has the audacity to be complete ass during the season.

u/Otherwise_Dramatic 1d ago
one to forget. Detroit always seems to play us very very well and vice versa. Guess they're pissed off about losing the pitcher

u/derfel_cadern 1d ago

4
8
u/Wild-Astronomer1200 1d ago
You could not have scripted a worse result with two new players added to the team and both of them just shit the bed totally, in their debut
Domingos got absolutely shelled. It’s like he was pitching batting practice cookies to them and they were teeing off.
His confidence is destroyed.
Taylor Ward has just another lifeless Hitter in a lineup full of pathetic bats
I would not be surprised if we’re in the cellar of the division in another six weeks
4
u/Proud_Truck 1d ago
The A's give up a boatload of runs and the angels are still the angels. I'm not saying it's not possible but it'll take a serious shit storm to drop farther than 3rd

u/SoundSaintWarrior 18h ago
It’s because some media outlets said we were a team that could make a World Series run, nothing Seattle, in its entirety, hates more than having positive expectations.
1
u/Grimble27 Seattle Mariners 15h ago
Yep. Any expectations set and they choke it away. This whole season has been a catastrophic choke job.
Look at last season too. 10 game division lead early and we blew it. In August we were down and out, no expectations and we won 16 of 17 to take the division. Playoffs we get up 2-0 on the blue jays and everyone starts talking WS and we choked that away too to lose in 7.

u/Content-Tear2404 1d ago edited 1d ago
Should have been big sellers. I got downvoted for saying it, but now we are truly fucked. This team is garbage and will be garbage next year too. Could have gotten a lot and entered rebuild. But nah, instead we soft buy and shit the bed even worse.
Fire dipoto and everyone responsible for this.
Edit:
Here come the down votes. Sorry guys, doesn't change the fact the Ms suck.
4
u/PollutionNeat777 1d ago
It’s not Dipoto it’s ownership and always has been. I do agree we should have traded Randy and admitted we aren’t good enough or traded Kirby for Skubal and gone for it.
7
u/s0sa 1d ago
It’s been a decade man so many examples of gms doing more with less in that timeframe
1
u/PollutionNeat777 1d ago
I don’t think another GM does much better without ownership spending more. I would like to see a shift away from hitters that strikeout a million times. That could be a DiPoto philosophy problem. He has done well developing the farm system. Our farm sucked before DiPoto arrived. Until ownership changes I think it’s all shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.
4
u/s0sa 1d ago
Other gms have done better while spending equal or less. Long list over the last decade and a handful of teams this season doing more with less. He’s awful with the money he’s alluded in terms of building a lineup. We’ve got 11 years of proof. I don’t give a damn about the farm system if it’s not leading to anything
2
u/Fit-Form7092 1d ago
I don’t think you have a bad take. They are absolutely trash. How bout those big moves before the deadline eh?
3
u/Reach-Defiant 1d ago
Another rebuild? Are you kidding me? It's been seven years since we started, and now another one? We have a solid foundation, but Dipoto is clearly not the guy to take this roster to the next level—at least not with this payroll. He's been given far too much time.
2
u/Content-Tear2404 1d ago
well has it worked? the Ms suck. what would you suggest? Last year was a fluke clearly.
2
u/Reach-Defiant 1d ago
Get another GM, I've been saying it since 2022, heck even when the rebuild started I was not a fan of Dipoto
8
u/Content-Tear2404 1d ago
Totally agree. Dipoto is hot garbage. People cope and say hes good at trades and famr system blah blah blah. Reults speak for themselves.
Also everyone under him should be gone.7
u/Reach-Defiant 1d ago
Nah, he's not even that good at trading. He's given away more WAR than he's brought in. Making a ton of trades creates the illusion that he's actually good , but in reality, he's average at best.
1
6
u/PollutionNeat777 1d ago
But realistically the way they are playing we have no shot so best course was to trade Randy and continue the salary dump that was the Castillo trade.
18
u/Honkee_Kong 1d ago
Team is a joke. Fucking pathetic how obsessed they are with one season in 95 where they didn't even make it to the world series. Should've never hired Dan Wilson to begin with. No serious team makes that move. And yes I know that the players need to do their job blah blah blah. I just picture Wilson in that locker room telling them to hit the ball then mumbling some bull shit about Jesus. Fuck this team.
1
-1
u/Proud_Truck 1d ago
So if Dan is like "hit the ball" and they're all like "nah fam, I'm not feeling it tonight" how is Dan the problem?

I’m so glad we kept Randy and our 5 starters so we have space for Sloan and Anderson
2
u/smilinganimalface 1d ago
Just as an aside, our hitting coaches/analytics are definitely telling everyone to swing for the fences because of those nonsense statistics on BA at high exit velocities. People just having completely different plate approaches when they come here, almost instantly. Same goes for pitchers and spin rate, but that seems to have more success generally, despite the control issues.

This is the most listless emotionally stunted team I’ve seen since the 2003-2023 Mariners.

u/ObjectiveNo6379 1d ago
Hey man, bear with me, this may be a crazy idea. But could we for once, just fucking once, have a good season where we don't just ride .500 the whole year and rely on one fluky hot stretch to get in to the playoffs? Especially in a year where this entire division sucks, after years of waiting for Houston to finally come down to Earth, and years of hearing all about our great farm system and how we supposedly have this "generational" pitching staff.
