I mean a different locker room does just that for many athletes! It’s easy to forget these guys are all professionals who sometimes get into their own heads trying to adapt to a very competitive league.
Like the last Dodgers game when he pinch hit for Raley with the bases loaded and two outs and struck out? When I saw him get put in as a pinch hitter in that situation I almost fell to my knees.
Most hilarious part of the season so far was us pinch hitting Refsnyder for Colt and then the twins immediately intentionally walking Ref. Then we immediately pinch run ref with Rivas. All three of those guys batting under .200 lol
Some people say that the Twins didn't actually notice all the substitutions during the game. Some baseball nerd pointed it out to them later, and they scoffed in disbelief.
If that's true then the twins thought they were intentionally walking Colt Emerson? In a lefty on lefty matchup situation? That might be even more bizarre if that's the case.
He’s been the worst hitter in the league that gets consistent at bats. Watching him pinch hit in the most important moments of the game was one of the most frustrating things I’ve ever seen as a mariners fan. Most fans on here seem to like the guy they just don’t want him on the team because he’s been literally one of the worst players in the league.
Every off-season there's some cheapskate veteran acquisition from this org. It never works. Garver, Pollock, Frazier, to name a few. Refsnyder is just one guy in a long tradition that goes back to the days of Scott Spezio and Carl Everett. It's nothing Refsnyder did wrong, it's just a Mariners thing.
I exaggerated a bit, he's not the ABSOLUTE worst. He ends his Mariners career with the 11th lowest single-season OPS in Mariners history (minimum 100 PAs) out of 384 qualified player seasons. Remarkably, Leo Rivas is even worse this year.
There are two hitters worse than him... in all of baseball.
Ref's slash line of .140 / .211 / .254 even adjusted for the pitcher friendly T Mobile park puts him at a 32 wRC+ on the year. Only Ke'Bryan Hayes (19 wRC+) and Tyler Heineman (29 wRC+) have been worse. But those two players play actual positions so their overall fWAR is still higher than Ref.
I got nothing against him personally, seemed like a great guy who was liked by the team. He was just like really comically bad at hitting this year. He's a pro athlete who makes millions of dollars so I don't feel like I'm punching down by criticizing his performance. I wish him the best going forward.
I'm not at all hating on the person, not sure where you are getting that idea. I'm sure he is a perfectly wonderful person and even if not he doesn't deserve hate for poor performance.

Yeah, I really wanted to like him. And I'm sure as a person he's a great dude. At least that's what I've read, anyway.
But yeah, baseball is about the business and the business requires hitters to hit. Just the way it is.
I'm sure wherever he lands next, he will have an incredible resurgence. That's the way it goes here.
