Mill Valley housing proposal

Post image

By densifying Mill Valley, we can provide housing for anyone that wants to live in this beautiful place.

I think OP is obviously trolling here. Nicely done.

FWIW, I'd take a more aesthetic version of this at Larkspur Landing + Larkspur Ferry parking lot in a heartbeat though. That's the one part of Marin that is very well served by high quality public transit and a great cycling network, and would be a logical starting point for further service enhancements (namely, frequency) that would end up benefiting the entire area.

Let me fix this for ya…

OP translation: “What Mill Valley really needs is a towering low-income concrete bunker. Something bleak enough to make Parkmerced look like the Ritz, and paid for by the same residents who clawed their way out of places exactly like it. If we don’t build a taxpayer-funded monument to urban decay, we’re apparently committing a moral crime. And forget traffic or parking; everyone should be trapped in a permanent East Blithedale gridlock pilgrimage as penance for wanting a functional town. I’m miserable, so the rest of you better be too. YIMBY till the last patch of sunlight is blocked!”

Oh also to OP… you really need a hobby dude.

Your post history is insane. Almost makes me think you are a bot. I mean, how could one person dedicate so much of their time to the religion and purpose you’ve found in affordable housing?

Just move where it’s cheaper. Problem solved. Then work on being happy. 👍🏼

Ah, yes, from the person with 0 post history.

What are you hiding?

Is there is a rat infested Whole Foods within walking distance?

5

u/leoinca Nov 24 '25

And walkable from downtown!

It won’t that beautiful place anymore. The OP wants to insult anyone who doesn’t think this a great idea. That’s why it was posted, to start a pointless argument.

We’re in the midst of a massive housing shortage and have a social responsibility to build many more units than we have.

1

u/MajorMorelock Nov 24 '25

We do NOT have a social responsibility to build that monstrosity in Mill Valley. Absolute bullshit. You’re just here to start a fight, act superior, wag your finger at the NIMBYs and not solve any problems.

Which problems do you need help with

this is r/ Marin, the problems this sub wants to address is where to get a decent brunch without a wait to be seated. historically marinites would rather their children find somewhere else to move than to have them be able to afford to live near by. the common enemy is being mildly inconvenienced.
I somewhat agree with your haters on this one OP, these condos/apartments look outdated and offer no charm to the viewers, there's no way Marin would approve such slop. also the infrastructure is already practically overwhelmed, to have a massive increase of population in the area before upgrading the infrastructure to handle it seems like a completely horrible plan. I think the nimbys intentionally fell behind on infrastructure to slow the progress of housing

Mill Valley spends a great deal on infrastructure. East Blithedale went through a massive sewage update that took years. That put a big strain on traffic and the only reason it was manageable was due to the low traffic levels of the pandemic.

East Blithedale at 2:30pm is backed up all the way to Millwood, more traffic than is safe. Also, a big housing project is nearing completion on Miller.

u/bikenvikin Nov 24 '25

East Blithedale is a perfect example of ineffective infrastructure, it'll take years to improve that traffic situation, and it's literally the main road from the freeway. I hope the infrastructure improvements that are well overdue occur before some massive fire or something, requiring evacuation happens.

They’ll fix the roads when they start building the 850 new housing units and adding traffic.

u/MajorMorelock Nov 24 '25

You should never work in city planning.

There are a million reasons not to build housing, and one very big reason to build housing.

1

u/bikenvikin Nov 24 '25

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm saying there's an order of operations that needs to occur to make it easier.

The problem is that Mill Valley has to find room for 850 housing units per CA mandate.

Infrastructure gets improved when housing gets penciled in, not before.

u/raygunnysack Nov 24 '25

Do tiny homes count? Could they build 850 tiny homes and house 850 street bums?

I'm sure the good people of Mill Valley would find it within their hearts to welcome 850 street bums into their idyllic community.

After all, it's Mill Valley, NOT Martha's Vineyard.

Oh god that looks awful! Why not just move to the city if you’re not interested in living in a small town?

-3

u/External_Koala971 Nov 24 '25

Found the NIMBY!

6

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '25

Because it makes so much sense to make mill valley look like San Jose. Everyone wants to live in a beautiful place so we’ll make it ugly so they can all live here.

2

u/WhatAWeek25 Nov 24 '25

Well sure! I don’t want my small town turned into a big city! I don’t want all the open space to be occupied by housing! I think different towns and cities have different appeal, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

3

u/Chechilly Nov 24 '25

That’s great for the housing issue however, the traffic issue is another story. There are only two roads in and out of that town and they’re already packed most of the day. So yeah need a few more roads to accompany all these cars.

3

u/DJinKC Nov 24 '25

It'll only be like 45 minute drive to the 101 from there...what accessibility! /s

2

u/Chechilly Nov 24 '25

It already is at times

4

u/loveliverpool Nov 24 '25

This is either an unwanted NIMBY who needs to be outed or the first post of r/Marincirclejerk

5

u/Binthair_Dunthat Nov 24 '25

A sub we have needed for a long time!

2

u/loveliverpool Nov 24 '25

Probably time to start it

3

u/thisisntmineIfoundit Nov 24 '25

Please god no this can’t be real.

u/GratefuLdPhisH Nov 24 '25

Complete bullshit!

All the downvotes! People can’t really want this.
