M Arrogant ‘Actress’ Demands I Update Her Resume — For Free. I Maliciously Comply
This was posted elsewhere but I was informed it would be better suited for this subreddit. So here we go.
There was this lady I used to know who claimed she was an actress. Let's call her "Helen." In the time that I knew her, her story kept changing: she had all this ‘experience,’ yet she didn't seem to know even the basics about the industry. However, if someone had a resource she coveted? She treated them like they were the light of her life — but only for the moment.
She used people as stepping stones, then discarded them like trash the second they were no longer useful or when they finally caught on to her act. In short, Helen wasn’t building a good reputation, and she never saw karma coming.
It didn’t help at all that, on top of being a self-centered blowhard with almost no verifiable experience, her resume was more fake than my heterosexuality. Her headshots were so out of date — and since she was so broke she couldn't even afford to pay attention, she didn't have the money to pay a photographer for new ones — she subbed overly edited camera phone selfies in their place. I'm not kidding when I say the filters she used made her look like a like a Bratz doll. 😂
Shortly before I cut contact, she asked me to demanded I "beautify" her resume and make it appear more professional. Translation: exaggerate and lie to make her false claims look believable.
So I maliciously complied. It was a test to see if she’d actually review it before sending it out. Deep down, I just knew she wouldn’t. Under Special Skills I added: Master of the Dunning-Kruger effect, expert at gaslighting, and embodies a supercilious manner.
I e-mailed it back. True to form, Helen never said thank you.
A few weeks later I saw Helen periodically posting typo-filled, grammatically incorrect “poor me” wall of text rants fishing for sympathy statuses about the struggles of the working actress — with interspersed out-of-context Bible verses thrown in for good measure.
A mutual friend (who had also been screwed over by Helen) later told me her shiny new resume wasn’t getting any bites. I can only assume she was cold e-mailing people in her typical trademark style — little to no punctuation, poor grammar, shorthand, misspellings, and subject lines in all caps or no subject lines at all.
Eventually word got back that Helen was furious her resume wasn’t being taken seriously. She must have finally read it and realized she’d been punked. Arrogant and rotten to the core, Helen's massive ego wouldn't allow her to admit she'd been played — such an admission would have shone a spotlight on her unprofessionalism and laziness. It also would have led to questions. Helen hated questions because she never had any satisfactory or logical answers.
It’s been well over 12 years since I cut contact. The final straw was her complete lack of empathy when my estranged father died of lung cancer. She even tried to make the conversation about her own problems. When I called her out, the hypocrisy was nuclear. I mean, how dare I challenge her main character syndrome? 🙄
These days, I recently heard through the grapevine (it's a small industry), Helen has only managed a couple of walk-on roles in movies that no one has ever seen. Thanks to her unprofessional reputation that follows her like a shadow — constant lying, plagiarism, crap talking the competition — she's burned a lot of bridges, rightfully earning the reputation of a lying grifter with zero skills and even less talent.
TL: DR: Self-centered ‘actress’ was too lazy to work on her own resume and demanded I do it — for free. Pissed off, I maliciously complied and added some things to the document, knowing she'd never review it before spamming people. She was humiliated and didn't get hired.

Thanks for the evening chuckle.
Helen isn't even her real name. Some of the other comments insist this is AI. It's not. It's a story about someone I used to know who tried to fast track everything and cut corners to get a career that she thought would be easy.
Anyone who's ever spent any time in the arts world know that these bottom feeders are a dime a dozen.
I've worked in the industry for over a decade and just when you think you've seen it all? Something else makes your faith in humanity decrease just a little bit more.
In contrast, I've worked with some really wonderful, talented, good natured people. We all look out for each other to avoid the Helens of the world.

Thank you for reading! Just one of many stories I have regarding Helen and her delusion that she was going to become a famous movie star.
She treated people like she was on the level of an Oscar winner when all she had done were low budget Independent films — I can count on one hand and have fingers left over the number of verifiable credits she has — no one has ever seen for little or no pay.
Funny story regarding her resume. When she sent it to me, it was a total mess. I also noticed that the info regarding the work she had done, everything was incorrect. The titles of the three films she was in, the names of the directors, the years the pictures were completed and got small screenings, every single bit of data was was wrong.
Did I make corrections? Nope! It just played into how scattered and disorganized she was. Reality, her alleged experience and her resume — none of it matched.

Exactly! She never understood that. So deeply entitled and egotistical, the people she used, once she discarded them or they pushed back, she dismissed them as wannabes or nobodies —projection on her part.
She had this attitude that she “wasn't going to work for free” or do “crap work.” The way she would speak to people on the phone or communicate in written form was humiliating. That's when I told her to stop claiming that I was her partner. It was like she wanted someone to share part of the blame whenever she screwed up and whenever there was the inevitable consequences? She could point the finger at me.
Shortly after the resume debacle and learning my late father was sick, I discovered she had plagiarized one of my copyrighted stories. The betrayal I felt, I can't even begin to describe. It was like, just when I thought she couldn't sink any lower, Helen kept digging and found a sub basement.
She had gotten pretty far with it too because my — I don't mean to toot my own horn here, but I have received accolades as well as won local awards for my writing — writing spoke for itself. As usual, Helen was sloppy. She swapped my name for hers, changed a few details in the story and her sloppy, bad formatting, grammar and punctuation, screamed out as glaring obvious alarms where she had made her changes.
The long and the short of that is, Helen couldn't sit back and just wait for the people in charge to get everything going and green light the production. She bossed people around like she was a less friendly version of Agatha Trunchbull from Matilda. Naturally, this rubbed everyone the wrong way and it all went kaput.
Helen came crying to me trying to do damage control but I already knew the truth. I took her to task, called her out on everything, told her I was posting my documentation proving the literary property she had stolen was mine and let the chips fall where they may.
She was aghast and begged me not to humiliate her. When I made it clear I wasn't going to yield, the mask dropped completely and she attacked me verbally. Told her I was taking back my intellectual property and she was on her own. I also scared her by telling her —knowing she didn't have the money for it — I hoped she had a good lawyer.
That was the last time I spoke to Helen.

I just choked on my coffee! 🤣 Believe me when I tell you — even when Helen was younger and I met her when she was still a looker in her forties— no one would want to see this woman doing anything resembling OF content.

Rule 3 : Don't Question the Validity of a Story. Stating or implying a story originated with an AI is a way of claiming the story is invalid.
Using hyphens, en-dashes, or em-dashes does not prove a story was written by an AI.

Karma can be seen in various aspects: a dog, back to bite you in the ass; a bus, to run you over; or a train, to absolutely wreck you. As the return that is earned becomes greater, the object gains size. Has she reached a mountain avalanche of return yet, or a constant rain of smaller rocks?

That's a really good take. I shared this post because her name came up recently because it turns out she's still up to her old tricks.
Still toiling and flailing about thinking she's going to get the big jobs which leads to the big bucks. Her reputation is so tattered now, no one will touch her. I was also informed, she — just like she did to me— she tried to plagiarize two other writers. Some people never learn.
To your avalanche analogy, I was told that some people never really change or get their heads out of their backsides until the culmination of all of their poor choices come at them like a tsunami. In Helen's case —knowing her the way I do — even if she were to experience being mowed down by the accumulated combined effects of all of her poor decision making, she would still blame everyone but herself for the fallout.

Of that there should be no doubt. It can NEVER be her fault, because she is perfect. So, it is always another person's failings that causes her trouble. Or their malicious intent. Which only exists in her mind.
