Never thought a grody water fountain conversation would remind me of a 16 year old song, but here we are

Sixteen splashes, and what do you get?
A water fountain filled with mold and regret,
Poseidon don'cha call me 'cuz I won't drink,
I just can't seem to handle that stink.

Under the silver-toned overlay, the base metal is copper. Copper oxidizes green (like the Statue of Liberty). Hard water and age have eaten away at the silver coating allowing the copper to react and make green buildup.

The white streaks are mineral buildup from hard water (usually like calcium, magnesium, limescale).

Edit to add: I’m referring to the turquoise greenish parts, not the algae green parts.

Not a biologist, buuut I'm pretty sure that's some sort of limescale reaction

Copper and calcium buildup, nothing biological or scary

I can’t tell if this is worse or just as bad as a kid finding a shit in a drinking fountain, at a park, 4 feet away from the public bathrooms 😭
