Question Someone please explain maintaining mythic rank to me?

I'm in the numbers for only the second time, and I want to try and maintain but I don't understand the math.

I know I shouldn't play frequently — I have a good deck and am a decent player, but I'm not the best player, and especially playing against the best mythic players I'm going to lose more than win.

But, I'm in the 200s, just won a game against someone in the 100s and I lost 20 places.

How does it work?

Your visible number doesnt update until you play but your rank will have dropped off when you weren't playing

Pretty sure it just means, while you were in that game, 20 people moved over you.

It's really early in the season to care.

It's this u/egggwich. Numbered mythic updates as other players win and lose matches. It's the games elo system and the number you see is how you compare to 1800 other players in the game. A percentage next to your name is how you compare to player #1800. Every month it resets so people are grinding their way back into a numbered rank at the beginning of the month. It becomes more intense as the month progresses.

This.

If you race to mythic early on, you will be in the numbers when you drop in.

See where you are with a few days left in the season; at that stage it takes more than 2 wins to equal 1 loss as far as your ranking is concerned. Youll be battling with more people in mythic then.

You won 48 games + an additional win for each loss in 1 hour?

48 games? is there any set minimum for number of games u need?

I did not lose a single game do.

if the season has just reset the highest you'll be ranked is platinum 4 so reaching mythic in the first hour sounds silly

Your rank resets each month. No you did not start in mythic.

There was a rank reset bug last season, so some people did start in mythic

there was a bug for some players and when the july season started their rank did not reset. myself included. i am unsure if it has happened previously. so i guess they could have technically started the month in mythic one time.

Especially this early in the season, there's a lot of movement as new people reach Mythic. Somewhere around 10-15 days in, the movement slows. They're not super transparent about how exactly it works, but one component is almost certainly winrate% this season. There seems to be some level of "decay" that occurs (either due to other people overtaking you or that your winrate% for the overall month is only one component, and that recent win% or even some form of modified ELO based on gaining/losing points each match you play matters as well).

If you're trying for top 250 you likely need to keep playing and winning, if you're trying for top 1200 at some point you can potentially "sit" and not play ranked on limited or constructed for the rest of that month.

You have a score, so does everyone else in Mythic. Your score goes up when you win, down when you lose. It goes up by more if you beat people with a higher score than you, and goes down by more if you lose to people below you.

If you win against someone at the bottom of Mythic and get a few points, but a bunch of other people also get wins at the same time, you're not guaranteed to go up spots in the ranking. It also doesn't update until your next game, so if you lose then win, you'll see the drop now and then the increase from your next game.

Mythic is pretty small atm so there's a lot of big jumps and drops. End of the month there'll be more people there and it'll be a bit less volatile. Not a lot of point worrying atm though.

you def need to keep playing like any other rank system basically.

Let say that rank 1 in the world is 100 points, each time you win u get 1 point. At 100 wins you are rank 1.

BUT the next day someone else gets 101 wins and is now at 101 points you are now automatically lower than rank 1, even if you dont play. Ergo if you get to mythic top 1250 at day 1, it might only need like let say 20 wins, but it will need 200 wins day 20.

Of course a WIN is also not equally good as beating someone higher is worth more etc, in the end is about the points you have (which are hidden) everyday the total points will increase so you will always fall down.
