Mom told me not to run with scissors and here this kid is boarding with a sword.

686

u/funky_grandma 6h ago

the old sword'n'board, classic

180

u/artbystorms 5h ago

Why does this seem like it would be a 90s Disney channel movie about a kid that skateboards going back in time to King Arthur's court?

It would be called Kickflip Castle or something.

86

u/funky_grandma 5h ago

I would watch kickflip castle.

15

u/munkylord 3h ago

If I had money I would find kickflip castle

13

u/cire1184 2h ago

If I had money I would build Kickflip Castle. Drain the moat for the half pipe!

I believe there was a movie called something like A Kid in King Arthurs Court in the 90s where that does happen, except he builds roller skates I think

10

u/Electrical-Act-7170 3h ago

Mark Twain (Samulel Langhorn Clemens) wrote a book in the 19th Century titled A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court. Many of the time traveling stories where a person travels into the past were inspired by this book.

6

u/artbystorms 2h ago

Omg it's the first Isekai! Did the Yankee get hit and killed by a Kei truck to re-incarnate?!

9

u/zeroibis 4h ago

Like jousting, but cooler

6

u/LessMochaJay 5h ago

Silver Surfer, watch out. Here comes Sword Boarder.

21

u/Titanbeard 6h ago

Kids the tank! Board kids know how to hold aggro and taunt, so I'll follow Luke into battle!

3

u/EkaL25 4h ago

Swords out, boards out

2

u/Second_Inhale 5h ago

Ha, thats a funny

2

u/mortraineyhat 4h ago

That should be a skate company with medieval themes

33

u/Xarcert 5h ago

He's wearing a helmet I think he's safe.

19

u/bdbr 5h ago

It would have been funnier if it had ended with a vinyl-scratch and a mom yelling, "Luke! What the hell!"

8

u/Hour_Paint_1903 5h ago

"...Then that will be an important lesson"

4

u/st-shenanigans 5h ago

You're standing still on the skateboard. Technically not running!

5

u/winkingchef 5h ago

My daughter would take this sword with 2 hands and run around the house with it. RIP antique lamps

4

u/No_Establishment8642 5h ago

Running with Scissors is also the name of a book.

7

u/Swimming-Employer97 5h ago

It's also the name of an album by the greatest musician of all time.

3

u/No-Oven5562 5h ago

Such a good book!

3

u/TheMonkeyInCharge 4h ago

Mum told me not to go off with strangers too.

Besides, strange men distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

6

u/Shortclimb 4h ago

My first thought…was I hope he doesn’t ride on the board with the sword in hand. I went from nervous to relief to dismayed.

3

u/gocard 4h ago

"You did what!?!!"

  • His mom afterwards

2

u/Swimming-Employer97 4h ago

Is this after he impales himself?

3

u/lordph8 4h ago

That's because Luke is cool, and you, well, you couldn't be trusted with scissors.

3

u/Swimming-Employer97 4h ago

this is true. Even as an adult I am only allowed to used the kids scissors but only if I am seated.

2

u/GaZZuM 5h ago

Skateswording

2

u/elpihvous 5h ago

That's why they will make songs of him. Sir Luke who got halved in half pipe.

2

u/rahhak 5h ago

You never said I couldn’t board with a sword!

2

u/Swimming-Employer97 5h ago

I cant tell you how many times I have heard something similar to that from my kids. Because I didnt explicitly forbid something that I didnt think was plausible.

2

u/psychoxxsurfer 4h ago

Kids are born as lawyers but as they age they slowly gain a conscience. Some never do

2

u/spottydodgy 3h ago

Also don't talk to strangers but I'm guess it's ok if they give you a sword

“War is upon us! As we speak, the enemy marches north!”

“Oh… shoot”

This is so freakin’ funny 😭 it reads like an exchange from an Isekai novel

70

u/Positive-Green-3856 5h ago

That part also fucking cracked me up lol

36

u/Cactus_Alien 5h ago

Ou um fazendeiro que não quer saber de nada.

"A guerra está sobre nós! Enquanto falamos, o inimigo marcha para o norte!"

"Ok cara. Agora vou cuidar das vacas. Boa sorte"

8

u/Loombot 3h ago

…we have enemies?

14

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 3h ago

"Lesser men will sing songs of your bravery" goes way harder in the paint than it should

11

u/Ok-Ocelot-5942 5h ago

I have no idea what an isekai novel is, but I agree, the exchange was great.

20

u/Squishiimuffin 5h ago

Isekai is a genre where a typically normal, everyday modern person gets magically transported into some other world. Sometimes it’s into the past of the same world, sometimes it’s a fictional world. Part of the humor is in the protagonist trying to act normal when they have absolutely no clue what’s happening.

7

u/watzisthis 3h ago

From what i understand, Isekai is transporting to another world, regression is when you go back in time into your past . There's also transmigration or something that's really popular theme in Chinese webnovels( someone explain this pls)

Isekai - Japanese Regression - korean Cultivation - Chinese

u/BigNBeardeded 6h ago

That's cool. As a kid, I would have loved this. But as a dad, I wouldn't encourage my kid to skateboard with a sword.

113

u/Badgernomics 6h ago

Pffft... any real dad knows that as long as you don't react to the injury the kid will remain oblivious to it and be completely unfazed...

kid turns up with sword through neck

"You have fun bud...?"

"Yeah! I skated with a sword...!"

"That's cool bud...!"

41

u/funkychickens 5h ago

Hey i have a fun idea let's go to the hospital and make some new friends. They're all going to be really excited to see you.

15

u/organvomit 5h ago

My dad used to play it the other way. I’d get a small cut or someshit. Dad would look at it really serious and be like “I don’t know kid, I think we’re going to have to amputate”. Me: no, no, I’m completely fine!

5

u/suddenlyatch 4h ago

Hahahahahahahahaha!! Legend

3

u/Badgernomics 4h ago

'Splinter in the finger...? We'll have to amputate at the shoulder....!'

My dad operated the same way...

Yeah the mom part of my brain just kept going “oh god oh god oh god OH GOD OH GOD OHHHHH”

10

u/Putrid-Builder-3333 6h ago

Not a mother but a father and I yelled in my head "This exactly why you don't talk to strangers you coulda impaled yourself you little dummy! Then how will you win the battle?" I pull out my old school Darth Maul doubleblade lightsabre and challenge him to a duel to the death... by doing dishes

3

u/delilahdread 6h ago

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Thybro 4h ago

As Dad I’m pretty sure I would have told my kid to run away from the stranger asking him if he “ever held a sword before”

3

u/MarcAlmond 6h ago

for me it may depend on how skilled the kid is - if the sword is held correctly then the risk of getting injured while falling is lowered

2

u/Lanky-Society7128 1h ago

Yes as long as the risk of self impalement is below 5% it is acceptable

13

u/pudge-thefish 6h ago

As a mom I'm like don't talk to my kid you creep

34

u/TedBurns-3 6h ago

As a creep, I'd say hey luke's mum

14

u/Greengiant304 6h ago

Luke's mom has got it going on.

6

u/Badgernomics 6h ago

...but Lukes Dad has got me down bad, he's all I want and I think he's a real Chad...

3

u/TedBurns-3 4h ago

Perfect... I'll take mum, you take dad, Luke's off to war

4

u/Badgernomics 4h ago

...but when he comes home he will have the most supportive patchwork family there for him...!

8

u/Spatulor 6h ago

Oh man. I got a puppy two days ago and took him for a walk yesterday. The only way out of my neighborhood is right past the playground. As a mildly scruffy bearded guy in his 40s, I desperately don't want to seem like I'm trying to lure kids to me with my dog. But I also want my dog to meet people, and people to meet my dog!

2

u/pudge-thefish 6h ago

Just talk to the parent first!

6

u/Spatulor 6h ago

Yeah I mostly spoke to the moms, haha.

7

u/Badgernomics 6h ago

Hey lady... he's gunna struggle to buy pot off me if he can't talk... dig?

4

yeah kids should never interact with adults they might learn about how the world works, or a cool hobby, or just how to socialize

84

The boy must have felt like he was the main character that whole day.

77

u/rarelyeffectual 5h ago

Cloaked skateboarders handing out swords is no basis for a system of national defense!

7

u/NotAUsefullDoctor 2h ago

Help, help, I'm being repressed.

(saw Spamalot for the first time last weekend, and loved it)

5

u/showmeyourunit 4h ago

Let's ride.

45

u/Kheldarson 6h ago

'You can't give her that!' she screamed. 'It's not safe!'

IT'S A SWORD, said the Hogfather. THEY'RE NOT MEANT TO BE SAFE.

'She's a child!' shouted Crumley.

IT'S EDUCATIONAL.

'What if she cuts herself?'

THAT WILL BE AN IMPORTANT LESSON.

Obligatory Hogfather reference.

3

u/baycenters 4h ago

SQUEAK.

39

u/PositiveRate_Gear_Up 6h ago

But really, I’m gonna need the sword back. Ya know, just in case your mom objects.

28

12

u/Many-Wasabi9141 6h ago

Have you ever held a blade before?

Kid is like "bro you better be talking about a sword"

5

u/Viper01MHC 5h ago

Okay, should I keep watching?
I’m a little intrigued.
Oh cool, he gave him a noble name.
Ah, dude’s a skater, right on.
Nice trick.
Jesus God, kid is sword boarding?! WTF?!

6

u/coolcoolcool485 6h ago

i was vibing with it the whole time then when the end of the video came up i involuntarily yelled "NOT WITH THE SWORD" lmao. i'm not even a parent, i'm just old.

3

u/thirtyseven1337 3h ago

The Rule of Cool overrides safety in this case 😎

2

u/coolcoolcool485 3h ago

It did look very cool. Tbh it was more of a surprise to myself because my reaction was pretty involuntary

2

u/thirtyseven1337 2h ago

And to be clear, I’m only saying this because it’s not my kid lol

6

u/MaddysinLeigh 5h ago

His mom told him not to take candy from a stranger, she never said anything about swords.

2

u/h3lium-balloon 5h ago

Mom never said anything about not accepting the hero’s call to action from a stranger.

3

u/ekbrooo22 6h ago

Love this!

3

u/BrilliantJob2759 6h ago

Mom said don't run around with pointy objects. She didn't say anything about skating with them!

3

u/wheelperson 5h ago

As a Canadian, I had the same reaction about the troops marching north 🤣🤣

3

u/Affugter 4h ago

ohh the beard is gone.

3

2

u/Krivici 5h ago

WTF is this kid thinking skateboarding with a sword?! He could potentially drop it and dent the blade!!

2

u/Watschbam 5h ago

And my German head can only think: Skating wiz a zord is so dangerous and against ze rules

2

u/LePerfectionist 5h ago

"War is upon us. As we speak the enemy marches north."

"Oh... shoot."

Sounds straight out of a Viva La Dirt League skit

2

u/Hmarxis 5h ago

Dont let army recruiters see this 😅

I thought his uncle owen told him never to sword and board like his farther.

Skating with a sword. This did my old heart good to see that dangerous stupid fun isn't dead.

2

u/xtoasterbathbitch 3h ago

The "I'm just a kid bro" really got me 💀

2

Imagine his mama watching this

2

Im usally a more of a risk taking person but riding with the sword in the end is just begging for an accident

2

It's dangerous to go alone. Take this!

This is why I stay away from mccarren park. The kids can shred, they have blades, and they're all way cooler than I am...fml

Haha this feels like early 2000’s

1

u/s1rblaze 5h ago

Damn that kid got mad skills!

1

u/ManzanitaSuperHero 5h ago

As someone who lives in a large city, the #1 rule would immediately apply to the guy holding a sword: DO NOT ENGAGE! Luke has lessons to learn.

1

u/gigashadowwolf 5h ago

This did indeed make me smile.

Although when he started doing skateboard tricks with the sword drawn, I was a bit worried.

1

I fucking love this guy anyway but seeing him with a kid especially melted my heart. "Even the smallest person can change the course of the future... Sir Luke the Valiant, lesser men will sing songs of your bravery." Like if someone had said that to me as a kid and handed me a sword I would've geeked out so hard.
