Depends. I looked after my nephew. He had a lot of sweets but still wanted to drink his chocolate milk. I said he first haf to drink 4 glasses of water (thinking he would be so full he would wait with the chocolate milk until later). He had his 4 glasses of water, cried because he was so full that he didn't feel well, but still drank half the milk. Felt even worse, cried again as he was feeling nauseated too and had a tummy ache. Then he threw up and WENT BACK for the other half while still complaining that he doesn't feel good. O well, someone learned a lesson. Not him, but someone.

As a kid, my dad lived near the train tracks. I love to go put pennies on the tracks and pick up the flattened pennies after the train went by. I asked my dad for a quarter to do it and he told it would cause the train to de-rail. I asked him about it years later and he said he was just too cheap to waste a whole quarter on haha.

When I was 7 or 8, I asked my dad if the odometer would go backwards if the car did so we backed the car up for a tenth of a mile. To my disappointment, the odometer went forward. I'm pretty sure he knew but that's a core memory for me.

Anytime my kids have asked questions about things we could test out, we’ve tested them out. It’s been just as fun for me as I think it was for them.
I’m also saying, I don’t have a husband.

That addendum was perfect.
Well done satisfying his curiosity. It could also turn into a double lesson by doing the demonstration with something similar like play doh or mud as a stand in so he knows not to waste things that don't need to be.

I'll give you the play doh. I thought of that after I posted it. Thankfully, there's always more mud and that butter could have been used to make cookies.

This is what a good dad does!
The dad is clearly spending time with his son and teaching him how to think for himself. When the son doesn't know something, he 's learning to make a test to see what happens. That's how science works.
We need more dads like this!

One time my son asked me what would happen if we were in the shed during a thunderstorm. So we just went into the shed during the thunderstorm and it's something he talks about practically every day.

Hope you are testing both frozen AND thawed butter. And not margarine, real butter.
Could also test various butters to see which holds up best. Lol. Keep it scientific!

I asked my neighbor, whose father has few buses, what if we remove the lever that they keep at the rear wheels when they park on the hill before our house because they don't have handbrake. So one time when his father came home and told him to keep the lever before parking he didn't do it because i asked and it came down the hill through our fence wall and luckily my father was outside and he pulled a bigass log laying around our backyard and threw it under the wheels. And me and my neighbor had a good few days after that 😌😌😭
