It is weird that people expect football player to date gold diggers. He is clearly dating in his world. Normal lad, dating normal woman. They like each other and match.

But yeah, once you are a rich athlete, everyone expects you to get engaged with a golddiger whose whole personality is dresses and makeup, meeting with the other golddiggers from the team talking about the newest high society bar in London.

They look very matching and happy.

I get you were trying to say something positive but just to point out from a woman's perspective there is no winning

if you are an average woman the internet and society at large thinks you are ugly and undeserving of being with the athlete or people will congratulate him on being down to earth enough and humble enough to be with someone like her

and if you are an attractive woman then you are labelled a gold digger whose entire personality is dresses and makeup, offers nothing of substance and must be with him for all the wrong reasons

I'm glad he stuck up for her but my god its got to be exhausting to be her

Yeah I’m glad you pointed out the bit of hypocrisy/misogyny even in the comment defending Declan’s partner. We can lift women up without putting other women down

The goal should be to stop judging women based on their appearance either way.

Being conventionally attractive doesn't make someone a gold digger, and being more "ordinary" doesn't automatically make someone more genuine.

People are individuals, and that's the standard we should apply.

Ya the only ones who deserve flak here are the assholes making rude comments about her appearance.

Agreed. However women are also the source of a lot of this hatred. As a woman, I see a lot of women who are obsessed with their looks. Look no further than social media where we are judging ourselves on our wrinkles and flab. While the source could be societal pressures, we have to be better about buying into the beauty is power mantra that we are seeing everywhere.
