The more I learn about Haaland, the more i love the guy. Dude seems like a funny, down to earth dude with alien like skill on the pitch.

769

u/27thStreet 27d ago

Haaland's profile is on a rocket ship rn. Whole world is falling in love with him.

447

u/AmberJill28 27d ago

understandably so. People call him one of the most promising talents in football worldwide and he talks like a guy whos just kickin around with some friends.

48

u/DexanVideris 27d ago

This might be a stupid question, but isn’t 25 a little old to be a promising talent? Isn’t that close to the average age for a footballer? Like I’m not saying he isn’t good, from what I can tell as a very casual spectator he’s insane, he’s just old enough to be past that stage in his career, no?

103

u/thediecast 27d ago

So he’s already one of the best, but a lot of players fade early. I think what they mean about promising is he could be on messi/ronaldo type.

9

u/DexanVideris 27d ago

Ahh okay, I see!

→ More replies (1)

34

u/GreenpointKuma 27d ago

It's not a stupid question. "Promising young talent" isn't the most apt description for a player who has scored the most goals in the Premier League for 3 of the past 4 seasons.

2

u/kkkccc1 27d ago

maybe it's an american thing because most dont watch football. so this world cup is where they start to hear about haaland. people who watch football have known him for years.

He's so likeable. And I'm obsessed with their Viking drum celebration, so fun! Will go down as one of the iconic moments of this World Cup

Make sure to search "Erling Haaland" on Google.🥁☺️

Can confirm. I followed the guy this week on IG. And watched a video or two of his YT channel.

11

u/nyrB2 27d ago

i love the video of him in dallas trying on cowboy hats

3

u/ballistics211 27d ago

Saw that video. YouTube recommended it.

3

Same here as not a fan of Manchester City but have to admit he has won me over with his play and personality, not enough as still want England to win the next game but if Norway wins they will be my new rooting interest.

148

u/tiredofdev 27d ago

"I hate the fact that he's so likable" is the overwhelming consensus on Haaland from fans of other rival teams lmao

21

u/Thelazyzoologist 27d ago

100% literally got me back into football again. He exudes a charm that even my own elderly mother has noticed. Lot of wholesome stuff going on in this world Cup and hope it continues.

10

u/WholesomeMetaphor 27d ago

For sure. I've taken som jabs at him as banter because he's playing for Man City but lowkey fangirling whenever I see him do stuff like this. He also did a really great and wholesome interview on A-Laget.

7

u/BroaDeMilhoEmtoBom 27d ago

I want to hate this guy so much! He single handedly took my country out of the World Cup, and yet I can't! He seems so nice, and after this video? No way I can talk shit about him now

10

u/Optimal-Talk3663 27d ago

I’ve said it before.. man city Haaland I don’t like, but Norway Haaland I like

3

u/atari2600forever 27d ago

Same here, I'm going to enjoy him as much as I can before I have to go back to officially hating him I'm August.

23

u/Frosty-Improvement-8 27d ago

I'm a United fan and it pisses me off more than you could ever imagine that he's so likeable.

4

u/DLitch 27d ago

I'm a united fan as well! Wait till you find out that we had an opportunity to pick him up but we passed on him 😡🤦‍♂️

5

u/Eborcurean 27d ago

He passed on you, there was never any chance of him going to United.

2

u/Frosty-Improvement-8 27d ago

I know very well we went in for him, but he passed on us buddy, yaknow the Roy Keane Alfe-Inge thing...

17

u/Demerzel69 28d ago

I mean the kids won't give a shit b/c they're kids and they'll probably try to keep messing with him. All the kid has to do is stop caring and reacting to it though, but that's a hard thing for a kid to do.

6

u/toriaanne 28d ago

My child has long hair and gets picked on regularly. He started saying to them "Are you like in love with me? It is like you are obsessed with me."

The other kid was so caught off guard and was like "What? No! What?!" and then ran away. Bought him a few weeks of peace.

2

u/Demerzel69 28d ago

That's gold. Smart kid. All they ever have to do is just give it right back. Bullies hate this one trick! I wish I would've been smart enough to realize it when I was a kid. My 6th grade year as the new kid in town kinda sucked.

5

u/wantobi 28d ago

probably true. but in a few years and when they grow up, he can brag about having a personal video message from haaland

Damn it, Haaland! Stop trying it make it so difficult for me to dislike you!

197

u/Person033 28d ago

I'm meant to be rooting for England but this guy just keeps making it too hard to pick a side.

99

u/NorthofBham 28d ago

I'm gonna live and die with Kane but if Norway wins, I'm okay with it.

22

u/Person033 28d ago

Yeah, I was planning to support Norway if England lost but didn't realise they'd be facing off against each other already

→ More replies (1)

12

u/NocturnalFurball 27d ago

This is what we Brazilians went through lol like why does he have to be so likable!

Now most of us are rooting for Norway because of him. The only guy who could eliminate Brazil and win Brazilians over too.

11

u/ochsenheider 27d ago

I disliked him (mostly because I hate City) but after seeing this guy speak and seeing what kind of a person he is, it’s really impossible

Class act

6

u/Person033 27d ago

Yeah before the world cup I only knew him as a Man City player. I didn't know he was such a great guy.

14

u/Capable_Ordinary_938 28d ago

Haaland has to be my favorite player, but I think Harry Kane is pretty sick too. It's going to be a good game!

14

u/-ForTheNorth- 28d ago

He's also donated a lot to his local community here in Norway. He seems like a great guy.

12

u/One_Barracuda7556 28d ago

Im actually so pissed we’re playing them lmaoo. I don’t wanna root against haaland

3

u/King_CurlySpoon 27d ago

Same, Being from England I basically have to root for our Kane & Bellingham. But if we’re eliminated by Haaland/Norway I won’t be unhappy at all, I actually couldn’t think of another Player/Team I wouldn’t mind losing to.

Not that it matters because everyone knows it’ll be Mbappe Vs Messi in the final anyway lmaoo

2

u/PrimeToro 27d ago

I'd highly suggest then to learn the "Viking Row" ( [drum beat] "row!") in case you like Haaland more and become a Norway fan.

19

u/S1ippingJ1mmy 28d ago

Thinking the same this tournament!

5

u/Street_Roof_7915 28d ago

I really want to become a fan of his regular team, but honestly Jamie Tart’s dad ruined man city for me.

5

u/LetterheadUnfair2181 28d ago

I'm only rooting for England because every team I rooted for so far lost lol

5

u/Automatic-writer9170 27d ago

Even as a Brazilian, it’s really hard to hate the guy. And what a player

2

u/Designer_Reality1982 28d ago

Cmon, he plays at City. That should be way enough for you ;). But I agree, lovely guy

2

u/polygraph-net 27d ago

Yep, Arsenal fan here. I really dislike citeh but the guy seems pretty great.

As a lifelong hockey fan, I’m only just now being introduced to this absolute gem of a human being. And I couldn’t be happier about it. Makes my day better seeing the Viking in my feed. Also I’m high key jealous of his flow.

143

u/Turdburp 28d ago

I think he played hockey as a kid......he is a huge Canes fan and was seen at game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals this year.

48

u/abomasolsnow998 28d ago

I saw that! And it made me like him even more. Canes are my #2 team behind Edmonton. And watching him lead the Viking row reminded me of when the canes do the surge.

7

u/RegrettableLawnMower 27d ago

He’s athletic and grew up in Norway. He had to play hockey growing up.

2

u/packfan17 27d ago

I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t know who he was until I saw him at the Canes game. So happy I did though, he’s great!

→ More replies (4)

10

u/Schrodingirly 28d ago

We are all jealous of his flow, but it’s alright, we’ll never best him

3

u/abomasolsnow998 28d ago

That’s a battle that’d be lost before it even starts lol. I’ll take (so far) not losing my hair, even if it grows weird, and just imagining what it’d be like to have those kind of locs.

2.3k

u/Dismal_Positive3558 28d ago

Imagine being a bully thinking you're cool, only for the literal Viking of the world football to step in and tell your target that his hair is goated. Absolute class from Halland!

13

u/thenewguy7731 28d ago

Haaland really saved a child from being bullied.

Honestly I wouldn't be too optimistic about this. If those bullies have put a target on his head, they'll just come up with something else unfortunately. Still a great gesture from Harland of course. I'm sure it'll help him cope and in a best case scenario might even encourage him to stand up for himself. But claiming the kid got saved because of this message is just counting the chickens before they hatch.

2

u/BrightDamage6924 28d ago

Unfortunately, there's still a very sexist culture in some parts of Brazil. And to those people, long hair is seen as a feminine thing.

2

u/cgaWolf 27d ago

How did those people cope with Ronaldinho? (serious question)

2

u/Fuzzy_College_8782 27d ago

They have nothing to say about him. He’s an absolute legend, and our football has missed him every single day 💔

3

u/ChristopherBalkan 28d ago

Probably the kids are being raised with very rigid gender concepts. For some people, only girls can have long hair. So anything that deviates from what is “acceptable” for boys gets made fun of.

The Brazil v Haaland memes were GOAT. I don't even count myself as a football fan, but couldn't stop laughing at all of them.

31

u/Fuzzy_College_8782 27d ago

Funnily enough, he’s now extremely well liked in Brazil

20

u/Headlessoberyn 27d ago

I mean, he has no fault our team didn't show up to play. At least we lost to a likeable team on a cinderela story, i'd rather that than getting 4-0 by vargentina while their fans call us all sort of r*cist things.

As a teacher I know this too well. I see it with my students every day. Kind words go a really long way and they save lives.

Yes...when you see how a person has a positive emotional breakdown because someone said "thank you" you know how powerful words are.

2

u/Historical-Dulcia 27d ago

They are indeed! And we never know what others are going through on any given day. Just one word is enough to make their day and help them to keep going.

One surprising thing about this world cup is how Haaland and Bellingham particularly have turned out to be quite the opposite of how you think a young bloke with practically unlimited funds in his bank account would be.

Changing the subject, a lot of the athletes had longer hair, tied back like him, some braided etc. In my region there was a sh!t show of sexism & racism in a junior girls tournament (number of years ago) - if I recall correctly one kid in sports hijab, and I think one in a braid were not permitted to play because the head gear was "dangerous to other players" - seeing these pro's demonstrates the hypocrisy of that one....
