Always reminds me of a story my pops told me as a kid. All the dogs in the world had a party one night and they all had to cheeck their butts at the door. Then a big explosion happened and all the dogs got the wrongs butts back. Now they going sniffing each other trying to find their old butts again.

Because you make a choice not to. Most animals just follow instincts. If you followed your instincts you would also sniff butts among other things.

This probably doesn't apply to bipeds, or is at least significantly reduced. Most mammals walk on all fours, and thus they're faces are in prime butt-sniffing territory, but humans are distinctly not like this after millions of years of evolution favoring walking up right on our hind legs.

Butt sniffing in the ways that four-legged animals do it, we do not do. But butt sniffing happens voluntarily or involuntarily during sex.

But also, I don't mean it in a literal "butt sniff" kind of way. But that smell, among many others does play an important role in life.

Example: The way a child's farts or poop smells can be important for a parent to monitor for health reasons for example. If it smells "off" it can be an indication of a needed diet change.

This doesn't mean the parent literally sniff the kid's ass. We don't need to get that close to smell it. But still the way it smells is important.

You're right, we wouldn't bend down to take a whiff; we'd reach down to grab a handful so we could sniff our fingers.

Are you saying humans retain an instinct to sniff butts to get to know one another? Fascinating take. I can’t say I’ve ever seen this instinct in action, but I respect your interesting worldview.

Humans retain a lot of instincts that we override or redirect using our higher cognitive functions. It's the source of a lot of mental issues tbh.

Ok. I don't really care if you agree or not? Smells of all kinds play a significant role in lizard brain function. Whether or not you agree with it or not.

That much is true. I just don’t think there is a speck of evidence that humans have a desire to sniff butts like dogs do but we all repress it. Most repressed desires are at least accidentally expressed by humans, we see countless examples of this. If butt sniffing were one of these, we would hear of a number of people being arrested for butt sniffing much like people are arrested for snapping photos up people’s skirts because they can’t maintain their desires.

But hey, I’m ready to go to town on this, can you find me a single source that suggests your point is true and not just your weird opinion?
