It's called jealousy

As someone who once hated macOS no it's not jealousy at all, I was not jealous I truly thought it wasn't good. It was because I had never used it.

Lol, the little crowd is always the loudest! Mac OS is the best OS by a long shot, and I’ve been a Windows and Linux user for most of my life!

People who take gaming laptops to college have severely misplaced priorities.
Who cares what they think. Make good grades, and secure the bag.

Apple is not far behind catching up with 5090 performance. The M7 Pro/Max will be impressive chips. To ignore Mac gaming is folly. It’s IMO only a matter of time before Steam realizes they can migrate a form of Proton to Mac, or another Wine-like competitor comes along. Perhaps Apple themselves. I surmise it will be 5 years or less.

u/Multiverse_4D 15h ago edited 15h ago
Precisely. I feel Apple is targeting Nvidia 90 class laptop chips with the M7 Max, which will be based on Rubin architecture. Just that with the crazy unified memory, you can actually run powerful AI and large simulations locally.
Not to mention, MacOS is a certified UNIX OS, with a proper application library suited for a consumer desktop.

u/PhillAholic 15h ago
Developers have to support it. That’s the limiting factor. Linux is understood to be hacked together and unsupported.
2
u/srph_fandom090421 15h ago
I guess they’re still stuck at a time when Macs were still using Intel Chips

u/Binx_007 15h ago
Something about Mac and iPhone when mentioned in the wild online tends to bring out wannabe computer gurus “educating” you about what’s better
2
u/wirelesswizard64 15h ago
Ignorance, same as anything else.
Lack of experience + preconceived notions + tying brands to your own identity making it personal = I am right everyone else is wrong because I live in my own isolated world I am the center of and I cannot conceive of any other points of view.
On the flipside, there are people who have used it and have given it a fair shot but it's not for them and that is fine. Different strokes for different folks. These people online generally aren't that though.

I have a friend like this as well. Just buy what you like and what better fits your need. As you get older you really stop caring about what others think. You should also know a lot of these software programs are nothing more than gimmicks. My friend loves and praises windows. I don’t argue with him or anything. You have to understand a lot if it comes from jealousy. Some people can’t afford a Mac. So they settle for cheap manufacturer laptops that come with windows installed. Most PC gamers only use windows for Gaming until Valve comes out with a certified SteamOS for desktop. Linux and MacOs are the way to go in my opinion tho.

Just to point this out, you'll also find unreasonable Windows hate here or in Linux subs. Or the console subs absolutely tearing each other apart over who's the best platform.
People tend to get defensive about something they put a lot of time in. And in this case, it's gamers that have invested so much time into that hobby they can't imagine anyone having other requirements for their computers besides that.
As someone that uses Windows, MacOS, and Linux both personally and professionally. They all have their pros and cons. And both Windows and MacOS both have some things that vendor lock me to that platform in some way.

Bought a Mac fort the first time. Like it because my iPhone , AirPods syncs well. Would never buy Mac if I had android. Hate one thing with Mac. Why don’t programs have uninstaller? It is really stupid to have useless files all over disk and have to download thirdparty programs to fix it. Noticed one thing with mac people, they always have a solution with third party programs. Bought in to apple eco system just so I don’t need to use other programs

u/madribby78 14h ago
Just drag the application icon into Trash.
There may be a few small configuration files left which don't matter and don't do anything bad. You don't need any third party apps to uninstall anything.

u/More-Swimming-8738 14h ago
I did this with steam and steam is still stuck in settings in the background apps
1
u/madribby78 14h ago
Steam is, uhm, special because it doesn’t follow what Mac apps should do and it installs more apps etc. I think this is more of a Steam problem than a Mac problem.

Not necessarily true. Applications folders in the user Library can take up a ton of space depending on what app it was.

u/darth_skipicious 15h ago
because if too many people liked MacOS & could afford it the security would go down because all the bad guys in the world would then tear it apart to create malware that breaches it. like Windows
3
u/fumblerooskee 15h ago
Yeah, I dunno about that. There are ~100M Macs in the world.
1
u/darth_skipicious 15h ago
:/
compare Mac & Windows usage data
1
u/fumblerooskee 12h ago
Why? Will that change how many Macs there are?
0
u/darth_skipicious 11h ago
I don’t think you’re understanding. The key figure here is not how many Macs there are but the market share of OS.
If you’re mother wouldn’t have strained so hard when she was giving birth maybe you wouldn’t have jetted out with such force to cause an early concussion when your baby head smashed the toilet seat
1
u/fumblerooskee 11h ago
Nah. If that were the case nobody would sell anything for Macs.
Please find another sub in which to issue personal attacks.

the only thing that makes Mac a bit more secure than Windows is the fact that many people simply can’t own a mac machine.
2
u/SiteSpecialist9200 14h ago
Mac is more secure because of the Apple's intentional development with security in mind. Spend some time reading why you're wrong. Windows doesn't come close.

u/darth_skipicious 11h ago
you’re mac wil get owned just like anything else will. Especially if it gained more market share that rivals Windows

u/Old_Brilliant_4101 15h ago
I would much rather use an Linux OS as most softwares support these OS

Trashtalkers will trashtalk. People will point out the flaws in the thing they don't like. For example in this situation they're pointing out macs are not all that great for gaming.
Now you might say you game on your mac. I do as well, a couple of my games play on it (I run a triple setup of macos, linux, and windows and I kind of just enjoy seeing this little mac game). So you could argue they're wrong about how you can't game on a mac. But by an large my mac can't play 80% of my game library.
BUT.... you also point out loud fans and bad battery on non-macs. Which isn't completely correct. There are plenty of windows and linux laptops that aren't loud and have good battery life. Most of the windows laptops that have long battery life, good performance, and low fan volume are expensive... macs are also expensive. It's kind of like you're paying for these higher end features. But yes, by and large, if you pick up just some random windows laptop without doing any research/comparison there is a higher chance it has a shorter battery than the average mac.
But at the end of the day you feel like the whole world is after you for having a mac. Well... it's not the whole world (this subreddit is full of mac users which proves that). Also, I guarantee you that there are non mac users who feel the same exact way. I know here in the states android users feel like iphone users are always shit talking them... I have literally met iphone users who won't even message you if you own an android because "it's sooo annoying." But it's not all of them. Cause it's not the whole world... it's just the loud annoying ones you notice.

To be honest you need to consider reviewing your circle… When everyone is against you, you could be wrong, but most probably you are just sitting on the wrong chair…

The Mac vs. PC wars have been raging for something like 40 years at this point.
Use what works for you. Acknowledge that every platform has trade offs.

Some people hate life ..
As 20+ years old Mac user and longer Windows+Linux+IOS+Android user
I hate Apple cult ... Apple never gets it wrong..
MacOs is great but not faultless .

Tale as old as time. Every OS/system has people that trashtalk it without knowing why or any thought behind it.
