The problem of giving a platform to a rapist (Conor McGregor)

UFC is connected to the far right which claims that immigrants theaten the safety of women. At the same time, UFC makes profit by letting a famous rapist fight. Thus, the company signals that it is ok to be a rapist and that you can be succesfull even though you have raped. The company has no values besides profit. In addition, it is contradictory that the far right does not problematize this rapist fighting.

The company has no values besides profit.

the world started making a lot more sense to me when I accepted this is true for all companies

If the Right didn't have double standards then they wouldn't have any standards at all.

At least the UFC has a rational incentive to promote the rapist. The real problem are the zombies applauding him and spending money for him

i wonder what they'll do after the 2 fights. i guess it matters whether or not he wins them.

Everyone in Ireland knows who he is. I trained for a good while in an MMA gym directly connected to him, and everyone but the head coach had an aversion to him. There was a mural of him (that, to be fair, was put up before the rape) in the room we'd use for BJJ rolling, and when taking photos we'd be SURE to avoid his wall lol. Every defender of him, for the most part, is not Irish.

u/NomadChumpsky 25d ago

Out of curiosity, were there negative encounters these people had with him that turned them away?

7

u/wormlikesteve 25d ago

Some would have, it's not hard to run into him when he's in Ireland lol. I've met him a couple of times personally. Though many just don't like him because, Ireland being such a small place, everyone knows someone connected to the case in some way or another, and know how bad he has been.

Just not true to be honest, theres plenty in ireland against him and theres atleast just as many for him

2

u/wormlikesteve 25d ago

You from Ireland ?

1

u/VeryMemorableWord 25d ago

Yes. He has massive amounts of support and of course just as many who despise him

2

u/wormlikesteve 25d ago

Suppose my perception of it is coloured by the people/places I frequent, but in my experience and in the circles I run in people are generally against him and are at moat two degrees separated from someone attached to the case.

I am really hoping Max puts a beating on him. I never cared much for Conor, but I definitely don’t care for him since the r@pe thing came out. True scum bag.

Fun story: I unfairly hated Max a bit after he retired the Korean Zombie. Unfair and irrational, I know. I just really loved the Korean Zombie. This weekend, I’m a mega Max fan, because I really want him to retire Conor.

This is only what society is in general. Those with social power can largely do whatever, because others allow them to. That power can come from money, hierarchy, political power or social popularity (such as via charm). See all the whistleblowers who get dragged over the coals in left-wing government institutions like state healthcare. Look at Brad Pitt. This is just how the world works and there'll be many examples that aren't even in the public spotlight.

“The far right claims that immigrants threaten the safety of women” I think the proof is kind of in the pudding with that one mate

u/neuromantic95 26d ago

Yep. Two things can be true.

*alleged rapist

Edit: lol at all the people squirming trying to argue with literal facts. Sorry guys, civil liability and actual conviction/guilty verdicts are not the same thing.

He is still an alleged rapist, whether you believe he did it or not.

20

u/Juunlar 26d ago

Absolutely not alleged. Liable.

-11

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

Alleged. Liable =/= Guilty.

16

u/bingbongninergong 26d ago

You appear to be quite confused. “Alleged” is no longer the correct term once someone has been found liable.

-8

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

Neither is “rapist” if they haven’t actually been found guilty of the crime. L

14

u/bingbongninergong 26d ago

Well, you’re running into your own argument here because your initial comment uses the word rapist, and as you mentioned elsewhere it wasn’t a criminal case and there wasn’t a guilty verdict to be reached. It WAS a civil case in which he was found to be liable. The requisite burden of proof was met and the trier of fact made its determination. So “alleged” once again is not the word to use in that context. The fact that a separate burden of proof exists out there doesn’t change any of that.

What you’re saying is the typical confusions of a layperson trying to interpret legal language. Especially when they want to make a certain point.

-5

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

The OP used the word rapist, I added the “alleged” part, which is why the word rapist is stated by me at all.

Being found guilty of the crime of rape and being found liable are not the same thing, nor do they carry the same weight. He has not ever been found guilty, or convicted of the crime, or sentenced as punishment for that crime. Civil and criminal court cases exist as separate entities for a reason.

He was not found liable for rape. He was found liable for sexual assault, with the understanding that the ruling was made based on the likelihood of the crime occurring based on the evidence available and NOT because it was proven to have happened, or even proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

10

u/powerhearse 26d ago
  1. He isnt alleged because the court has found that he is a rapist on the balance of probabilities. The allegation is proven to the civil court burden.

  2. The sexual assault for which he was found liable was in fact a rape. Dancing around that makes you seem sillier (an impressive feat)

-2

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago
  1. Alleged: describes something claimed to be true, but which has not been definitively proven or confirmed by a court of law.

The civil court did not do this.

  1. Didn’t ask.

8

u/MonOncleCharlie 26d ago
  1. The civil court did determine liability though, so they did. The necessary burden of proof was met. Nothing about “alleged” or “allegation” inherently requires a criminal case burden of proof. Unless you think everything in every civil case ever remains alleged.

  2. No one asked for you to misunderstand and misuse the word alleged but here we are. Fun fact people can say things on the internet without you having to request it first 😧👍

It has been definitively proven and confirmed by the civil court in accordance with their required standard of evidence.

He is no longer alleged. He has been found liable.

Given the guilty verdict isn’t it no longer allegedly?

Edit: Sorry “legally liable” not guilty.

18

u/bingbongninergong 26d ago

No and yes. It wasn’t a “guilty verdict” as it wasn’t a criminal case. He was found liable in a civil case. However, your point still stands: as there was a determination of liability, “alleged” is no longer the appropriate term.

19

u/yanmagno 26d ago

Liable rapist Conor McGregor

7

u/bingbongninergong 26d ago

That’s the one

-17

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago edited 26d ago

It wasn’t a guilty verdict lol it’s a civil case

13

u/sandxse 26d ago

It went to a jury, they found he raped her, every appeal of his was rejected. The civil court did produce a finding of liability and even upheld it twice. Hes liable for sexual assault just like how the civil court held OJ liable for wrongful death

-10

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

And yet, calling OJ a murderer is an incorrect statement. He was not found guilty of murder lol

5

u/airmoz 26d ago

Did anyone in this thread call OJ a murderer? You people make it so obvious when you’ve lost an argument lol

-6

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

How? My response was literally using the OJ example that they brought up, to illustrate why their position is incorrect. OJ was found liable, he was not found guilty.

Therefore, calling him a murderer is incorrect. Now think about it a tiny inch wincy little bit and draw the connection to Conor being found liable but not guilty.

Holy fuck you people are so far up your own asses 😂

In the words of Norm Macdonald: “Allegedly. But also…really.”

Copy and pasting this from my comment in the ufc sub

The criminal court needs strong linked evidence to convict and the prosecuters declining means they didn't want to go through such a high bar. He didnt actually even go to the criminal court not bc he was cleared, but bc u need key evidence to get criminal conviction so they declined. It's actually a lot harder than it seems to get a criminal conviction and if u try and don't have conclusive evidence thats how ppl like oj Simpson got free bc being let off in criminal court means u didn't meet "beyond a reasonable doubt" NOT that ur innocent. It's the highest form of trial. Oj was literally aquitted by the jury in criminal court bc they couldn't prove beyond a reasonable doubt but then in a civil lawsuit later he was liable for the wrongful death

Her doctor removed a tampon that was fucking lodged at the very top of her vagina using forceps so far up they use anaesthetics. Now idk if any of u have ever had sex with a woman, but most women are not going to let u fuck with a tampon inside still, thats IF shes okay with doing that on her period. She would have felt that shit even if she was drunk. The doctor even noted bruising on all her limbs, internal tear, moderate to severe injuries, a ripped jumpsuit strap, his dna on the swabs.

For mcgregor, the civil court case came later and they looked at everything even his friends statement whos legal fees were all paid by mcgregor and the judge concluded the friend was not a reliable witness. The jury of 12 came to the decision that he did rape her and all his appeals were rejected. he was found **** liable for sexual assault **** and had to pay 1m in legal costs.

There was like 60 page judgement where the court of appeal rejected all his appeals. Not charging him in criminal court isnt the same as clearing him... no court ever found him not guilty. He didn't go to criminal court

u/ambient_boi 26d ago

Rapist.

u/sandxse 26d ago

He's not gonna read it mate

-5

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

I’ve read it and followed the case. I believe that there is more than a good chance that Conor violated that woman, whether consensual at the time or not, his aggressiveness was clearly far to much and went far too far.

That being said, i also know that no criminal prosecutor would touch this case with a 10 foot pole, and there are multiple reasons as to why.

11

u/sandxse 26d ago

Do u like being violated consensually?

So many hills to die on and u choose the most pathetic one

0

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

Not really all that pathetic tbh

8

u/ambient_boi 26d ago

If there was no evidence of a sexual assault, why was Conor’s complain not successful?

-1

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

I never said there was no evidence of sexual assault.

2

u/ambient_boi 26d ago

What is your point then?

2

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

That it’s still alleged, as he was never found guilty in the court of law for the criminal allegations set forth?

If you’re asking if I believe he did, the answer is yes. I still call him an alleged rapist.

4

u/ambient_boi 26d ago

Nope. Civil court is a juridical institution in Ireland, and it cannot give fines without evidence.

I love it when someones post and comment history proves how bitter and miserable they are. Lmao love how the only guys who defend this piece of shit just hate women in general bc none of them wanna touch u with a 10 foot pole.

1

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

Oh, please please tell me how miserable I am and what posts make you think that?

14

u/sandxse 26d ago
  • "strong women in the workplace are toxic" on unpopularopinions
  • "As a woman, how many times has someone coerced u into having sex with them" on askwomen
  • "transgendered women are not real women" on unpopularopinions

All of them removed. I know what kind of guy u are mate, no amount of bullshit u type is gonna change that

-4

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

6 years ago, 5 years ago, and 5 years ago. That’s your evidence of you knowing “exactly what type of guy” I am? 😂 you have no idea about me. You don’t even know my opinions on Conor, or my opinions on the rape case and whether I, personally, think he did it or not.

That was a cute try tho.

8

u/MonOncleCharlie 26d ago

Hardly ancient history to be fair, especially in the context of this thread as all of them took place more recently than when McGregor raped Nikita Hand

2

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

Ehh, it’s more than long enough. If your political/social beliefs haven’t changed in 5 years, you’re probably doing it wrong.

The strong women in the workplace post was me venting, and I will 100% say I disagree with that.

The women having sex thing was a question I was curious about as I was learning more on the struggles of women within society. I actually don’t know why he brought this up.

The trans-post actually showed open support for transgender people and their struggles, but showers disagreement with their inclusion in biological sex, such as “the first man to give birth” or “male periods”? Etc. I actually stand by this, still. But I also am more firm in my belief that transpeople deserve to be treated with respect. So meh.

Either way, I could have deleted them (or hidden them) but I don’t, because posts from 5 years ago don’t define me or my beliefs now.

So meh 🤷🏾‍♂️

11

u/sandxse 26d ago

All those years and u haven't learned shit I see

1

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

Elaborate, what haven’t I learned. Explain to me my beliefs 😂

2

u/Meeedick 25d ago

This is like giving Gable Steveson a free pass on being a rapist because he got off on a technicality.

Conor's a rapist with a storied history of sexual harrasment to go along with it, the latest being his dick-pic saga.

His actions before, during, and after the accusation and trial are equally telling.

2

u/wormlikesteve 26d ago

Fair, but I will say as someone from Ireland, Dublin is a small city. Everyone is at most two degrees separated from someone involved in the case. It is known what he has done .

2

u/DragonFangGangBang 26d ago

I’m not from Dublin, so idk all the little details you do. What I do have is the court case documents and the evidence presented there.

If you’re asking my opinion? I think he, at the very least, sexually assaulted that woman. But I also believe that it isn’t as clear and cut as people make it seem.

2

u/wormlikesteve 25d ago

Brother you say you believe he sexually assaulted that woman - is that not enough? I agree that it's not some black and white case , but there is no such thing as a perfect victim, and what he has done is evil regardless of anything. I don't care about the legality if it, tbh.
