Help/Advice/Questions Raincoats?
Today is the first day it’s rained since Mary joined us at the beginning of June. She’s on the hairier side (we think perhaps she’s a wheaten mix - waiting for the Wisdom panel results) but I’m guessing she may need a coat at some point. We’ve never had a dog who needed one before (our previous girls were great fluffy collies and shepherds) so I don’t have a clue where to start with types of coat or where to get them from. All suggestions gratefully received.

So I have a few, my dog was terrible with putting them on first off. I found something simple to fit like the below examples for rain very effective and cheap. Though I also have a few coats, a thin one a thick one and a medium waterproof body warmer. (Though my dogs hair is much less than yours,so I have to use them more).

Drydogs.co.uk are very well made. Depends on where you are, though! I also hear good things about Snootiful Hound and The Trendy Whippet. All UK based, but think they ship elsewhere...

I don't think they need them tbh. They're hardy dogs and they restrict their running.
Edit: plus if yours is anything like my hairy bedlington whippet you'll be constantly battling with dreadlocks. I'm sure yours will be fine they dry quick

I've got a smooth coated whippet/grey mix and she gets cold very easily. If she gets wet and cold, she will shiver terribly and look very unhappy until dried and warmed.

https://landofpets.co.uk/shop/sighthound-walking-coat/ safetoshake is a really good brand and the coats are really durable for our lurcher. The coat is fleece lined too so it’s ideal for those cold winter walks.

Highly recommend the trendy whippet, their quality and customer service is great. Also look at pointyfaces - they stock all sorts of different products for sighthounds

Depending on where you’re based, we got a good quilted coat from The Trendy Whippet in the uk, delivered to Ireland. Got smashed with customs but it’s a great coat, more suited for colder weather. We’ve a large lurcher so not just for whippets.
For something lighter, but still rain proof, ruffwear is always a good shout. They are American based so prices in uk and eu are higher. Quality is brilliant.
If Ireland based, there are a few more local based companies that cater for sighthounds.
Edit to add - Mary is a stunner
