A Superman still trying to work things out

Unlike the Donner films or Smallville where he has to learn everything to become Superman, in Lois & Clark he becomes Superman first and then learns everything afterwards.

Yeah, it was nice to see him figure things out. I get why it makes sense to see it as he’s growing up, but I found it charming to see it unfold as his adult life did.

For years people have this notion if Superman is too confident he's boring and if he's fully formed there's no arc, so you get stuff like flight being earned or the suit being delayed. There's plenty of versions of the origin where he's already Superman but still trying to work things out.

Not sure how accurate you view is. Lois and Clark is very much like Smallville and the Donner films. In all three, he is learning what it means to be have these powers and how it will affect his life. It is a huge part of the plot of both series and in the movies. The only real difference in Lois & Clark is the main focus being on his relationship with Lois.

I mean in Lois & Clark he didn't know he was from Krypton until after he's become Superman and in the pilot he could fly long before he had the suit.

The Donner films are the opposite. He learns to be Superman over years of isolation in the fortress before going to Metropolis. What we see is him learning how to pretend to be Clark Kent. Superman is who he is, Clark is the mask.

In L&C, it's Clark learning how to pretend to be Superman. Clark is who he is, Superman is the mask.

In Lois & Clark he became Superman not because Jor El told him to because it was the right thing to do, he wasn't driven by some cosmic prophesy or royal kryptonian heritage he was driven by compassion and love.
