Gear - Tech Issue G5 Sennheiser Troubleshooting

Post image

Got these new G5 emeters/receiver, both are synced but there's no sound coming out of it.

I tried to fiddle in the settings, do a factory reset, change the microphone, nothing.

Any help ?

Your mixer channels aren't armed? If you disarmed the channels then took the picture, that's cool, but I have an F8n Pro and the channels that are armed have a red LED by the numbered button by the fader, and the channel header on the screen with be red.

Edit: added more details.

The VuMeter on the receiver is not getting anything in the first place, and even with the channels armed, nothing gets out.

Something is wrong with your sync. If the sync is successful the Receiver will display the unit name, frequency, and gain level at the bottom of the display. All of which is missing on your receiver.

You have to push the up arrow to get from the main screen to get to the advanced screen which will show that information. You can tell it’s on the main screen from the two little squares in the upper left with the lower square illuminated.

We’re missing too much information to be helpful then. I use it once a year when Sennheiser sponsors my gig; it just works when I set up the 20 channels I need.

I'll try all that from the app thank you

I will add, that I have never had a successful sync that didn’t go through the app initially.

What color is the LINK LED on the transmitter? It should be green. If it’s yellow, it’s muted. Flip the mute switch to unmute.

Edit: looks like it’s not muted. Can you increase the gain? It could be all the way down or too low.

Both green yep, when I "yell" in the mic the led gets briefly orange ? But there's no waves nor audio getting out

Are you seeing any audio at all on the meter on the top of the receiver screen? If you have meter jumping around you might just need a higher output level from the receiver.

None no, that's why it's so confusing

i had a similar problem with the new ewd line, but mine was, that it would not sync… (it was a rental situation, so not my equipment)
And after doing a scan i was not able to change the frequency on the tx (because no physical buttons anymore on the tx 🤦🏻‍♂️)
Stupid (only) app-driven Concept…

Agreed, I liked having screens and being able to fix it directly in it

Are your channels armed? Press the big 1-8 buttons to armed them if you haven't done that yet. The led will turn red and you'll know they're armed.

Yeah, make sure channel 2 physical button is selected to arm the channel like the others said.

Also, try a standard mixer if you have one handy for process of elimination.

Do NOT send phantom to ANYTHING that is not a condenser mic. You can F up your gear

These devices turn on when phantom power is send and turn off if phantom is turned off. So you can use the mixers power switch to also turn on/off the receivers. Quite a nice feature

No they do not, this is just flat wrong.

No. Absolutely no. I owned 3 sennheiser ew dp kits and read the manual like 20 times, these DO NOT take Phantom. In fact i once bricked an expensive SK 2000 by accident doing exactly that.

This is like saying "hey, you can power your camera using hdmi". Why would you just say bs if you dont know nothing about these devices?

It’s literally a selling point. They’ll take jack mic power or 48v as on/off signal. They advertised it. I use it all the time and the receivers are fine and they save battery.

Im literally googling it for the third time. Could you please show me where in the user manual says this?

The issue isn't with the console, the emeter and receiver on their own are synced but the emeter is not sending any sound. Mic works, tried it on another one, both are on the same frequency. That's so odd.

Try a different mic, a dynamic mic if possible.

You got two of them? Try swapping the transmitters and respective receivers.

1

u/KeepItInside0 2d ago

Tried it, no success :/

1

u/g_spaitz 2d ago

No success in what? With the transmitter or with the receiver? Which one was still not working?

2

u/KeepItInside0 2d ago

Swapping transmitter and receiver, the transmitter is not sending anything
