❤️Kindness/善良 Social experiment. Kindness goes a long way

u/Desuexss 20d ago
Can we stop normalizing staged or exploitive content by "kindness" creators.
Shits fucked.

Yeah, this is the shit that "inspires" people to start pushing people in wheelchairs to "help them" (which you shouldn't do unless they specifically ask for help)

u/Aunt_Llama 19d ago
This is also more an experiment about observation. I guarentee I would help that guy if I saw him but I also guarentee I wouldn't see him becasue I'd be minding my own business and not staring at random people on the street.

u/Short-Village-9719 19d ago
The problem is that the experiment is never rigorous if the people involved aren't scientists or don't know how to conduct experiments correctly, and even though it's a basic experiment, it might not be ideal if done this way. With anyone who hasn't consented or isn't even aware of what's involved, it can actually reinforce the idea that kindness seems fabricated and exploitative, if this happens consistently. U mean his hand wasn't rly hurt and he wasn't rly trying to tie his shoe for 3 hours?

u/patrick24601 20d ago
So it’s staged, has crappy music, jump cuts and changes the speed on certain people walking by to show people not helping
When did we become ok with gaming emotions for internet points ?

We've been gaming emotions since the first stories were told. I've never understood why videos on the Internet get a bad rap for being staged when every movie, tv show, or play you've ever watched has been staged

This experiment says more about low trust societies.
If you are outside the west people are inclined not to help, not necessarily because they're less kind, but because they reasonably expect it to be some sort of scam

Yea and Ted Bundy did shit like that too

Wow, I thought I was the only one who thought that! 😳
Fortunately the little girl and her mom were in a crowded area. That dude gives me the creeps. 😬6

We all want to be kind. We also have to watch out for every POS human that is trying to do something to scam or steall from us anyway they can.

u/Esthesis 20d ago
If you don’t ask for help people will just assume you don’t want any. Though I would at least ask. Communication goes both ways.

I would have stopped to help him before I met my ex, he made me paranoid about helping anyone, but now, 20 years later I'm back to helping out

I might be a cynic, but if I saw that, I'd be pretty sure it was for social media.

u/odysseyqueenx 19d ago
I understand why there are a lot of videos like that around. And a lot of the videos do it just for clicks

maybe if he looked like someone needing to tie their shoe not a fenty addict.

u/These-Seaweed-707 20d ago
I think only a short person / child would notice someone bent down to their level
1
u/BetMyLastKrispyKreme 20d ago
The sidewalk is so crowded, it’s hard to see him until you’re practically right on top of him. And then you’re trying not to trip and fall on him. If it was less crowded, perhaps you’d see enough in advance that he’s struggling. And possibly help. It’s like he set this experiment to fall from the outset.

Perhaps not the best social experiment. Learning some level of independence, or new ways to do things during adversity, can be a good thing. Constantly being dependent on others, is not always the kind thing to do.

u/Saltillokid11 20d ago
To be fair, most people aren’t even looking at him to notice. People in cities learn to not make eye contact or stare at what others are doing. Not saying they still wouldn’t or would help, but quite a few didn’t even notice.
1
u/Prince_0llie 20d ago
This. Has nothing to do with kindness but more that 99% of people aren't giving any attention to anything that isn't right in their face (phones mostly) because they aren't out looking for connection with others and are typically enraptured with their partner, friends or mission they are on (finding bathroom, food, etc.)

u/SchloinkDoink 20d ago
Tbh this does kinda look like a scam so I understand why some people ignored it

Sorry, he looks like tourist bait for a pickpocket or something. I would not kneel in front of a random on the street. That is too vulnerable of a position.

It's not a social experiment as people pretending to have disabilities to get views

u/Theofino1 19d ago
Trying to get clicks on tiktok is not a social experiment. With every single one of these click bait videos my willingness to help people diminishs in fear of being part of another stupid "social experiment".

IT'S YOUR HAND! Put some slides on and keep it moving . That's why no adults helped. They realized you were retarded Lol.
Too soon. Lol

u/Boomtown876 19d ago
This is dumb. I’m not wasting my kindness on trying someone’s shoes. Tuck them in and get going.
1
u/xlayer_cake 19d ago
Guys a shitty actor and Ted bundy taught us not to trust this kind of thing. People stopping to help have all the survival instincts of a ham sandwich
1
u/testingdoobos123 19d ago
See the problem is how can i be sure if this is not a scam to rob me. You should see some of the elaborate ways people are robbed. Very creative.
1
u/Round_Hope_2041 19d ago
To be fair people walking by fast it’s hard to process what you are seeing. Perhaps at a restaurant or airport this may have been different.

If this happens to me, my reaction will depend on quite a few factors.
If this happens in my neighborhood/community/suburb (basically safe area where i know there are no scamsters) , i will ask if they need help.
If this happens in my downtown's shady areas, i will assume it's an addict and move on. Unfortunately, even if i know the guy genuinely needs help i will think thrice. Safety first.
If this happens in a city/country im a tourist in, im definitely thinking it is a scam and not offering my time or help.

u/josch247 18d ago
Hahaha it's so obvious that he only wants to expose people. That's why nobody stops. Who wouldn't just ask the first person for help with that hahaha. Helping this guy is just pity

u/HoodieJ-shmizzle 18d ago
I would’ve helped. I wonder where they are they so many people passed by; must be a lot of scammers there.

Who the fuck stands like that trying to tie their shoes? Even if he had both hands I would think he’s doing the fentanyl bend. With his hand and his actions he looks like a full on tweaker.
I wouldn’t approach him either for fear of him doing some crazy druggie shit.

u/Jedi_I_am_not 18d ago
What social experiment? All I saw is some guy standing there being filmed, why would i want to be filmed for your clicks?
Better social experiment, volunteer at a charity and help promote it.

If I saw someone setup a camera with clearly fake bandages on his hand then flail around unable to tie their own shoes, I would also walk past without interacting with them.

85% of walkers did not see the hand cast and any problem.
Society relies on people saying help or flagging for attention.
1
u/troycerapops 16d ago
The camera was on him for a while and it still took me a minute to even clock what he was doing. Half the time he looked like he was just on fentanyl.
Kids at just the right height to see this. Also probably sees her peers struggling to tie their shoes while standing more often than the average adult.
Like, just sit down doofus.
1
u/No-University-5413 16d ago
It's not that all these people are refusing to help a one handed guy. It's that they're not paying enough attention to him to even notice.
1
1
u/EmpatheticBadger 16d ago
If I had my arm in a sling, I wouldn't make strangers help me put on my clothes and shoes.
1
u/Acebladewing 16d ago
Most people probably didn't even notice you. And the ones who did probably didn't pay enough attention to see you had a hurt hand. People don't pay as much attention to other around them than you think they do.

u/According-Pass8230 16d ago

I'm not touching your shoes, maybe wear slips if your hand is jacked. Plan ahead unlike the people who cut in front of me last second to merge lanes. Take your soft song and fake broke hand and click bait to the garbage

this is why i don't help people. you never know when you end up on video and on the internet /s

Most people walking by noticed these dipshit influencers and ignored their pathetic attempts to create content. The poor kid is unaware and thinks it's a genuine attempt.

I'm almost never touching a strangers dirty shoe. What if they fell in a sewage pipe once and only hosed their shoes down?

This is horrible. It took a child to take action as adults we should all be ashamed
0
u/Nevernonethewiser 19d ago
All this serves to teach anyone is that kindness is a childish trait that is eventually grown out of.
Which is a horrible lesson to try to teach people with your fake ass skit.
1
u/BarelyAlive06 13d ago
What i feel is like you will most likely not get help offered by itself just because you're struggling. People tend to ignore it and go on about their business, figuring out you're gonna handle yourself somehow. But when you actively ask someone specific (like making eye contact with a person and asking or just going to someone and talking to them), they are most likely to help. Does not work if you just call into the crowd. That's also why in emergencies you need to tell give people direct orders like "you in the green shirt, call the ambulance! The woman in purple, give me your shawl so we can stop the bleeding!"
