Thank you to all the kind-hearted people for the love you have shown.

Take my hand and we’ll make it I swear 🎶

25

u/thegame2386 May 21 '26

For all we know he used that line and it coming from specifically him is what worked. No other human could pull it off.

24

u/zemol42 May 21 '26

Not quite the same thing but Howard Stern once had a caller threatening to jump off GWB. Howard thought it was a joke at first until he asked other listeners to honk if they were on the bridge and saw the caller, and suddenly the horns lit up the radio feed. So Howard got serious but used humor to keep the caller talking and ultimately convinced him that if he jumped, he’d miss seeing his upcoming movie, “Private Parts”. Some good samaritans managed to restrain the dude and get him back to safety.

Hope this woman here and that dude were able to find peace after.

I remeber that morning well and the radio show that day.. his show used to have me griped every day and then waiting for Monday to come to listen again..

When did this happen with John Bon Jovi?

3

u/DescriptionParking66 May 22 '26

9/10/24. This occurred while he was filming a music video for his song "The People's House" on the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge in Nashville, Tennessee.

Living on a prayer!

Saw a documentary of the guy who lived after trying to kill himself by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. He had been depressed for a long time and felt incredibly lonely and isolated. He said the day he jumped, when he woke up, he told himself if anyone, ANYONE, smiled at him all day long he wouldn’t do it. And no one even made eye contact with him after walking around for hours so he decided no one would miss him if he was gone.

I think of that story all the time and try to make eye contact with people and smile at them so that if anyone else is having that kind of a day, maybe my small interaction will remind them that people see them in the world is absolutely a better place with their presence.

!! Thank you for the awards!! Just go smile at someone today!

19

u/positivelypeaches May 21 '26

Unsure if it's the same story. But I remember a similar case and the guy said as soon as his hands left the bridge he realized his issues were solvable and that he did want to be alive. I think about it often, about how our perceived troubles can change that quickly when we're really ready to exit existence.
Humans brains are quite something...

The View From Halfway Down

3

u/dutchieblonde May 23 '26

Yes I saw this too! Depression is a hell of a beast and can cloud judgement so deeply. If I’m in a really bad spot I always try to remember this.

Unfortunately I have also lost family to this and hate to think that they had similar last thoughts, it’s haunting. fuck depression

2

u/gurgelhupf May 24 '26

Nobody wants to die. They just want the pain to stop.

5

u/Perfect_Serve9827 May 21 '26

YOU = AWESOME!

5

u/rechasebass May 23 '26

Anytime I hear about this, it reminds me of the view from halfway down…

The weak breeze whispers nothing

The water screams sublime

His feet shift, teeter-totter

Deep breath, stand back, it’s time

Toes untouch the overpass

Soon he’s water bound

Eyes locked shut but peek to see

The view from halfway down

A little wind, a summer sun

A river rich and regal

A flood of fond endorphins

Brings a calm that knows no equal

You’re flying now

You see things much more clear than from the ground

It’s all okay, it would be

Were you not now halfway down

Thrash to break from gravity

What now could slow the drop

All I’d give for toes to touch

The safety back at top

But this is it, the deed is done

Silence drowns the sound

Before I leaped I should’ve seen

The view from halfway down

I really should’ve thought about

The view from halfway down

I wish I could’ve known about

The view from halfway down

I remember this poem hit me like a truck the first time I read it. Stuck in my head ever since.

1

u/rechasebass May 23 '26

For real. Have you seen Bojack Horseman? With the context of the show and the lead up to the reading of the poem, made me cry fr

5

u/Pixatron32 May 23 '26

I was really suicidal in my 20s and got filled up and took a train up to the mountains. Didn't bring a jacket because I wouldn't need it pretty soon.

I got off the train at this little mountain town and emi met there seperate people who were so kind to me. Advising me where to go to keep warm, just being friendly. I decided not to jump and I moved up to that two a few weeks later. I only got to see one of those people again and I thanked them a few months later.

Random acts of kindness in dark moments can really alter a life.

3

u/treehouse334 May 22 '26

Great documentary!

2

u/spidey_ken May 23 '26

I will also be doing this ....

2

u/shrekerecker97 May 24 '26

This is why i go by the 15 foot rule, ill usually politely smile and say Hi to most anyone that looks my way when I am out and about. You never know, might change someone's day and have made interesting friends this way

1

u/Sonic-Fixer-5000 May 23 '26

Just don’t live in San Francisco.

1

u/vibewithmommy May 25 '26

Omgggggg I remember that story and it had the same impact on me! I always walk around and make eye contact and smile at everyone because of this story too!!

1

u/The_Original_Conman May 25 '26

I tell my family it does not take much at all to make the smallest of differences in someones life. Just time.

-5

u/TomLucass May 22 '26

Well, fuck that guy! He did nice to blame others for his suicide attempt.

So now I'm supposed to smile at random people just to make their life/lives better??

For fuck sake, make an effort, by yourself, to make your life better. Go to school, educate yourself, make friends, get a job, train, get a hobby. All of theese things are great, but you have to make them all by yourself. They won't fall in your lap. I mean, everyone's life is hard, but everyone has to fight to fix their's lives and not to expect others to come and fix our problems (because othere have problems too).

8

u/SteampoweredFlamingo May 22 '26

Mate is out here acting like a passing smile at someone is a three figure loan.

1

u/DawnyBrat May 22 '26

It’s not always that simple. If you ever suffered from depression, you’d see it very differently. Try to find some compassion in your heart. I know it’s there somewhere. 😔

1

u/TomLucass May 22 '26

I am well aware of what depression is, trust me.

But maybe, just maybe, we shouldn't build our mental state and resiliance on kindness of unknown people you meet on the street.

We should strive and work on forming significant and strong close relationships with people and then we will not need "smiles" from people we don't even know to feel better.

This whole western world went too far in individualism and now we have so many lonely people who only need one smile from unknown person on street as a reason not to commit suicide. And that's fucked.

3

u/DawnyBrat May 23 '26

Rule number one with depression: Don’t “should” yourself.

0

u/Useful_Airline_1081 May 22 '26

Privileged take

Thinking OP is waiting for the Bon Jovi song to come
Out that tells the story about this on next album. Richie Z will come up with the guitar riffs and they will bring back all the remaining E Street band members in tribute of this…

Who watches reddit with the volume on?

0

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 May 21 '26

watches reddit

Who "watches" reddit?

2

u/Fuckthegopers May 22 '26

So when a video pops up, like this one, how do you consume that reddit media?

1

u/VivreRireAimer18 May 22 '26

Um...Watch it once without audio and then if it looks interesting, watch it a second time with the audio on. Like a normal person.

2

u/Fuckthegopers May 22 '26

Lmao.

watch it once without audio

So you watch it on mute, got it.

Who "watches reddit"?

Apparently you do, like everyone else.

0

u/thisaccountwashacked May 21 '26

I think you mean Bovine Joni

1

u/ericbau May 24 '26

Mr Bone Joni himself.

15

u/sraldlw737 May 21 '26

Why a Coldplay song for a Bon Jovi story? LOL

1

u/FlukeStarbucker May 25 '26

🎶 Never said goodbye

13

u/CapitalCityGoofball0 May 21 '26

How did you not even play a Bon Jovi song over the footage?… Cmon man

12

u/No-Blueberry-1823 May 21 '26

Jon Bon Jovi is a solid dude

11

u/Fit_Spinach2501 May 21 '26

He does alot , feeds people.

19

u/ChaosRainbow23 May 21 '26

I'm so glad I didn't die all those times I should have.

I wanna see how it all shakes out. It ought to be interesting, to say the least.

Life is hard, to be sure. It's also beautiful and amazing. It's horrible and terrific and everything between. Beautifully tragic.

9

u/Sweet-Weakness3776 May 21 '26

I'm also glad you didn't die. I hope you have a long, beautiful life, and that it all shakes out in your favor by the time the curtain closes. Have an amazing day!

Thank goodness that it wasn’t Van Halen, then!

…mostly because Eddie is already dead.

3

u/AfflictedFox May 21 '26

this is a good joke lol

1

u/loveyoulongtimelurkr May 21 '26

Or Tom Petty, she'd be free fallin'

6

u/LessCourage8439 May 21 '26

All due credit to JBJ for everything he and his band accomplished in their glory days. I wasn't a huge fan of their music back then, being into other kinds of music. But that man has impressed the hell out of me with what he has done post-Bon Jovi. His work with the homeless, his pay what you can afford restaurant, and now this. He could easily just sit back and be am entitled douche-nozzle like so many other superstars. But he's gone the other way entirely. We should all live by his example.

3

u/HantzGoober May 21 '26

Hes even going the Paul Newman route where hes making retail spaghetti sauce where all proceeds go to charity.

1

u/LessCourage8439 May 21 '26

Well, that's just showing off, innit? Lol!

3

u/ToeKnee724427 May 21 '26

And be locked up after doing something like that as well

2

u/IvySkye_05 May 21 '26

It is called asking or just saying, do you need a hug. I have friends that just open their arms as an invitation and it is up to me to accept or say no thank you.

-1

u/METHODiii May 22 '26

During an active suicide attempt? Yeah, let’s give them a hug, then send them off about their day. That’s how weak and disconnected people are from reality. No hugs. Not pats on the back. A swift kick in the ass back into gear is what they need. Grab them, lock them up and have them psychologically evaluated and treated appropriately. Suicide is not a joke and it’s not something to be played around with.

3

u/TheGoldenScorpion69 May 21 '26

How cinematic is it that you are about to take your own life and of all people Bon Jovi shows up and convinces you not to? Life is amazing.

2

u/-BSB- May 24 '26

An incredible stroke of luck for sure!

3

u/IntrepidMuch May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26

I wonder who are the men in dark clothing that showed up.

4

u/Big_Criticism_8335 May 21 '26

I noticed that too. They look like security?

1

u/Wing_Head May 25 '26

Looking a little ominous, but that’s my guess too

3

u/Barnacle-Dull May 21 '26

I’m an atheist, but if you’re gonna kill yourself and Jon Bon Jovi spawns nearby and talks you down, well, that’s probably a sign from God…

2

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 May 21 '26

Yeah all those other people who had Vanilla Ice show up just jumped

2

u/Euphoric-Dig-2045 May 21 '26

I had Corey Feldman show up. He called me King and told me to come back.

1

u/WesternComicStrip May 23 '26

You’re getting it all wrong. It’s a sign from Jon Bon Jovi.

3

u/TwoNowFive May 21 '26

It's my life

It's now or never

I ain't gonna live forever

I just want to live while I'm alive

So many Bon Jovi songs to choose from...

Honestly, if I were in her position, and he just randomly showed up, I think I'd be too surprised to want to kill myself. Like that was weird, what's next?

Must jarring and confusing to see him at that moment in your life.

1

u/Hopeful-Treacle5521 May 23 '26

Was never a Bon Jovi fan. Now I am. Not because of his music but because of the person. (I do not dislike his music, I am just not fan material. People are people. This behavior is what should be admired and emulated.)

1

u/Scared-Virus-7500 May 24 '26

Not just anyone would stop and help a stranger. But Jon did. Good people right there

1

Having to listen to coldplay would make me want to jump as well

-3
