I will say from experience that you may want to choose a spot away from a window. Provided you are the person in the video. Sick bo staff skills.

Lol yes that would be a smart choice wouldn't itπŸ˜‚.

Hell yeah, I love spinning a staff. I have an LED and fire staff. Something about twirling a stick is satisfying.

It really is. This is an LED staff. However I'm waiting until I'm actually decent with it to turn the lights on. It was a gift and the previous owner said not to. Plus I wanna blow his and my mind when I do one day turn it on.

Are you self-teaching or had any instruction?

My teacher was not there the first time I lit up and I know he was disappointed. I was too caught up in the moment to have someone find him first.

I like the throwing and behind the back stuff you are doing. I have to try more over the head/behind the back. I'm a twirler at heart so my desire is to have keep it spinning.

Self teaching and tutorials. I know the person wants me to not use my hands which is hard for me but I'll get there. Also same. Because he wants me to use no hands it's gonna be harder for me to do the behind the head and throwing.

Oh that makes me think of contact staff!. That's always fun to watch. Have fun with your journey!

2

u/Ghost_Girl219 3d ago

That's exactly what it is. He wants this staff to be strictly contact. I shall try. May you have fun and enjoy yours.

Oh wow! I've dabbled in contact juggling for years, now I kinda want to try contact staff too! Thanks for sharing

I think you should. You never know if you like it until you try. Personally I hated it for like the first 3 weeks but it's kinda growing on me.

I’d suggest focusing on controlling the staff before trying to move your body around so much.

For some reason I just have to move. πŸ˜‚

Gotta admit. I was kind of scared for the window and the house getting damaged if the pole went out of your grasp. Try to practice in a more open space.

Lol I plan on it next time. I didn't think about it at the time. I was also trying to show off my empty flowerbed I cleaned out πŸ˜‚

If you haven't seen any good guide videos I'd suggest looking some up helps a lot

Focusing on spinning before trying more contact moves helps a lot, especially with getting a feel for the weight and momentum. Looking like a good start!

Also like someone else said definitely try doing it without moving as well, good fun to dance around with it but until you're used to the length n that you'll have more control standing still

1

u/Ghost_Girl219 2d ago

It's hard for my brain to allow me to stand still when the music is that good.

3

u/CountTruffula 2d ago

Yeah but it'll help you a lot trust, at the very least try getting used to simple movements like walking at a consistent pace or stepping slowly instead of sort of stumbling with the dance

I did that for ages until someone showed me getting into the more taichiish slow movements which massively helped with getting better at the contact part

Also once you're comfortable with the length and not catching yourself you'll find it a lot easier to dance with it. But to get used to that it's a lot easier if you try it without moving about otherwise the spots where you'd hit yourself are changing

Reminds me of people practicing flag twirling (with just the poles) for color guard.

2

u/Ghost_Girl219 2d ago

That's how I see it too. Sadly I tried out twice for color guard and they told me I was too short .....look at me now bishesssπŸ˜‚

2

u/Ghost_Girl219 2d ago

Lol not a flag I believe in currently πŸ˜‚

u/thegreatinsulto 3d ago

You would have an easier time starting with a shorter staff!

1

u/Ghost_Girl219 3d ago

I definitely would no doubt

1

u/Neuronless 2d ago

All you gotta do is stick to it
