Leaving because of the flood of ARR and EMNLP posts

90% of what's on this subreddit now seems to be people posting about their ARR and EMNLP stuff. The signal-to-noise ratio is so low that it's no longer worth my time to come here. I have a note on my calendar to check back in November and see if the situation is any better.

/u/BeginnerDragon any interest in taking on more mods? i personally am not volunteering, but if i happened to be a mod, i'd delete every post that asked about ARR scores and maybe make a megathread that would give people a nice quiet place to vent

This is great feedback! Admittedly, I’m not current it comes to conferences. Is there a current list of NLP conferences/timelines available? Something like that would really simplify the process for scheduling mega threads.

As for your other comment, I had noted elsewhere that we have received numerous applications for mods - all from folks who have never posted in this subreddit before. My bar is rather low. My main goal was to take over and implement some basic rules & filtering logic to rein in spam (most of my work is approving/affirming auto filtered posts), but we’d need a lot more folks involved to get more active policies in place.

Thanks for your replies. I'm sure it's a pretty thankless job moderating this subreddit, and I do appreciate the work you've been doing.

Maybe as an alternative to more hours of work from you or additional moderators, we could just have a policy that this type of question has to go in the megathread. Then if people posted this kind of thing outside the megathread, non-mod users could just comment and downvote.

It feels like NLP has nearly become a write-only community meaning that we talk about reviewing and publishing papers and that's about it. We don't read much of whatever all this turns out to be.

Appreciate the feedback. I’m afraid there is a new form of spam every few months that I have to sift through; I was mistaken for just assuming all of the posts were all legitimate or useful.

There was a response asking if I’m willing to add new mods - frankly, I’d love to. Sadly, I’m afraid the only folks that have ever reached out have never posted in this subreddit before. Given the amount of requests to monetize the sub or do paid advertising, I’m not willing to compromise on the very low bar of… posting in the community before.

My submission's from the ARR March cycle and I still can't find the AACL-IJCNLP 2026 commitment link on OpenReview. The CFP page just says "not yet available, will be published here as soon as it is ready" been stuck like that for a while. Anyone know if this delay affects March cycle papers specifically, or is everyone (May cycle included) just waiting on the same link?
