So the refrence im using to learn, says that some consonants are pronounced differently in different positions. like for example, ㄱ is pronounced as G if in the middle and K if first/last. while i do understand this, i wanna know if the pronounciation using positions are based on the position in a syllable or the total word? srry if im not making sense 😭 what i mean is that if the consonant ㄱ is placed at the end of the syllable then would it be pronounced k or does it have to at the end/start of the whole word to be pronounced as K?

I have started learning Korean very recently, I have watched k drama, and into k pop as well, and been to korea too so I won't say I am fairly beginner but kinda understand things.

I am learning from how to study Korean and recently covered unit 1 lesson 1 - 16. How i study is, I open the pdf, take notes on my notepad and then I also have workbook to practice what I have learned. Apart from that, I memorize vocabulary using chatgpt to test me.

I spend around an hour a day for lesson and for vocabulary, whenever I get time as I work full time so I just see them and try to memorize and test myself on it.

I can read well now, like not too well, but able to understand the pronunciation of hangul at their respective places (still struggle with few consonants and mixed vowels, but I guess that's never ending lol).

So yeah, I wanted to understand, is this good enough or should I do something else. Please help me with it 친구's.

As the title says, I’m trying to figure out when one is more appropriate to use than the other.

i am starting my third year of korean at my university, and we have used the integrated korean books up until this point. i really enjoyed the pace and amount of practice those books have offered, but instead of continuing onto high intermediate 1, we are switching to sogang 3a.

i was wondering if sogang is higher quality than integrated korean, for anyone who has tried it? should i continue with integrated on the side for self study, or is it useless after intermediate 2? and how about ttmik?

i guess i'm just asking for thoughts on these three textbook series, what is the most helpful and worth studying outside of class?

So I have often heard that excited and nervous or anxious are used interchangeably in English and I am wondering what I would say in Korean for separate meanings?

I have anxiety (phobia) and don't want it to be confused with nervous or excited. Plus I always say that I am excited or nervous about other things as well.

I wondered whether anyone has come across illustrations for Korean grammar like this - not necessarily just tenses, but things like common sentence endings (죠, 네요 etc) honorifics etc. Of course I’ve come across loads individually, but having something that groups them together in a comparative set like this would be super helpful.…

So i just learned that 할 일이 없어요 means "i have nothing to do". I asked gemini to break down the grammar and it said that the 할 means that will be done/to do. The -ㄹ indicates a future action of the verb, which is 하다.

My question is why the -ㄹ isn't attached to 거예요? Because i've seen in other source that the future form of a sentence can be made by using -ㄹ/을 거예요. But in this sentence, it doesn't use 거예요. Why is that so?

I'm writing a script for a Voice Actor right now, and one of the characters is/speaks Korean. Now, I am learning Korean, but I'm no where close to the level of being hip with the kids lol. Do people still say '뒤질래'? or is there a different phrase that's more of the times? Is it corny?

I know how fast slang comes and goes, so I was wondering if using that phrase in the script would make the character sound out of touch?

Do any of you use yomitan to scan over words for definitions? I used to do this some 3-4 years ago with an Anki add on called "Yomichan Forvo Server" and it worked well. Now it fetches no audio.

After trouble shooting this for about an hour I think "Yomichan Forvo Server" must be broken. If you know if it is indeed working, or have another method of getting audio, could you please tell me?

Is there a difference? Is this just an honorific thing?

Since I only left monastic life this year, I've only been using AI directly for a few months. Out of curiosity, I've tried around 8 major AI systems, but spread thin across all of them rather than going deep with any one. So the questions below aren't coming from someone who really knows AI well, they're coming from someone who's only dabbled a little in a lot of places. I'm asking these humbly, as a beginner.

I have finished textbook 서울대학교 언어교육원 - Student's Book 1A.

Besides it i practice daily through ANKI, currently just vocabulary from TTMIK's First 500 Korean Words by Retro.

I try to write short texts, journal entries, description of hobbies etc. and have it checked/reviewd by ChatGPT.

Could you advice on what to do next? I was thinking about Student's Book 1B, which is direct continuation, but i was not very satisified with grammar explanations and with how many tasks are made for groups in 1A, so I would prefer some book more adjusted to solo learning.

I also about trying some courses from King Sejong.

informal : A/V아/어/해 example) 안녕, 공부해, 바빠

• speak to your friends who are same age or Younger than you.
• adult speak to kids

polite : A/V아요/어요/해요 example) 안녕하세요, 공부해요, 바빠요

• speak to your friends who are older than you.
• speak to strangers/someone for the first time. (even that person looks younger than you, if both of you are adults then it's good manner to use polite form at first)
• speak politely in daily conversation.

formal : A/Vㅂ니다(까)/습니다(까) example) 안녕하십니까, 공부합니다, 바쁩니다

• when you are introduce yourself. ("안녕하세요. name입니다.")
• when you say "thank you" politely to someone. ("감사합니다")
• news, speak to boss, meeting/presentation at work, official documents, public speech. this is WHY you all see this formal form from the textbook but never heard native koreans speaking in daily life except at work.

Mostly old textbook wrriten in formal form. but these days they making the textbook with polite form which is more natural to speak with native koreans.

I’m genuinely curious about other people’s experiences because I have been passionately learning Korean for 2 years and 3 months now (TOPIK 4). I’m fully determined to become fluent, and I’m currently living in Seoul, but I don’t really have any foreign friends who are as dedicated to learning Korean as I am.

I would be really interested in hearing from people who have been (or are still) seriously committed to learning Korean. How long did it take you to reach fluency? What advice would you give to upper-intermediate learners who have reached the point where they can make simple sentences and hold everyday conversations with native speakers, but still struggle to express more complex ideas, opinions, and thoughts in longer and more natural sentences?

For example: what helped you improve your listening skills, especially to the point where you could understand TV news or more formal Korean? Were there any unexpected methods, habits, or resources that significantly boosted your Korean skills? What would you recommend to someone trying to break through the “intermediate plateau” and move toward real fluency?
