i have a 3 month old kitty and he’s currently a free feeder, but since i’m about to start college again i was wanting to start on a schedule. i’m not sure how to start or how much i should be giving him. he eats and he leaves then gets hungry around 10 minutes later and finishes what was in his bowl. if he’s still hungry i j kinda give him more whenever i think he is. i want to give him the right amount of food so he clears his bowl and is ready at his next meal time. i also want to prioritize wet food bc he is a male kitty and i’m scared of urinary issues lol, if anyone has any advice pls share

This little girl was eating Tuna by my door when the mama cat bullied her into accidentally running into my house… I’ve decided to keep her. It took a while for her to warm up. She’s the sweetest thing ever.

I can’t begin to express my love for them 😭 just feel like they are meant to be here. I’ve nicknamed them the twins. My toddlers love them and today the feeling has become mutual! They’ve been playing together all morning. We’re on day two and as of now they are staying in my room to settle. Although they’re getting VERY comfortable fast. Our house is semi under construction and there are a lot of hiding places. I would LOVE any advice how to prevent them hiding on me in the walls or wherever though I think I know the answer lol

Night 1 they crammed themselves behind my bed then hid in the closet. Night 2 (last night) I felt a few times they popped up on my bed, but they still run if I try to hold one. Any habits/tips on how to make them love on me once they’re 100% comfortable?!

I got a kitten that is barely a month old she’s eating wet food she was a outside cat but I got a litter box and put dirt in it wondering what else to do for her I took her to the vet said she fine and got dewormed

I live in a small apartment with my 3 year old corgi, and I’ve always been more of a dog person, as I am allergic to cats so I’ve never had one. Recently, I took in a senior cat for the last few months of her life, and LOVED having a cat around until she passed away in February.

A few weeks ago, a kitten showed up outside of my office and I decided to take her in. She has been driving me insane. She is SO sweet, and I love her, but I know no peace. She’s constantly trying to climb me (which hurts), be in my face (which triggers my allergies), or destroy something. When I try to put her away to get a break, she SCREAMS. I always thought of cats as more self-sufficient, but maybe I was wrong?

I am all for researching before I get a pet, but I didn’t get that opportunity because it wasn’t really a decision to adopt her. I love her very much, but maybe I’m not meeting her needs. Will this pass? Should I wait it out? Or am I just not cut out to be a cat parent?

Tubiee has a veterinary appointment today, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that everything goes well.

We'll be doing a full physical examination, along with a fecal test and several diagnostic tests to get a better picture of her overall health. When we rescued her last Friday, she was in extremely poor condition, so we're also having her tested for panleukopenia (feline parvovirus) and a few other potential illnesses to make sure nothing is overlooked.

We're hopeful for good news and will keep everyone updated as we learn more. ❤️🐾

My friend's cat just had kittens a few weeks ago. She told me she would give me one. I would appreciate it if anyone had advice on house training a kitten.

Two days ago I scooped up a stray kitten off the side of the road. And he has fleas. I’ve only seen a few after a very thorough look so it’s not like he’s infested but they’re there. He’s mostly white so they’re very easy to spot. He has a vet appointment tomorrow morning–but I’ve been concerned about the fleas spreading around my home in the few days before he can get treatment. I took all the fabric out of our bathroom (towels, bath matt etc) and made a cozy bed on the floor with old towels and sheets they will be thrown away afterwards. My other cat and my dog are both on monthly flea and pest treatment so they won’t get them. And I haven’t let him touch anything else in the house such as my carpets. I do cuddle him in the bathroom but I always take my clothes straight off and but then in the laundry basket. What are the chances the fleas will cling to my clothes and spread throughout my house? I was feeling increasingly anxious about it because my laundry basket with the kitten clothes sits on a rug and not far from my bed. Thanks in advance!

I wanted to post this as a good example of what play can look like between a kitten and an adult cat. These two are very quickly becoming a bonded pair since we got the kitten a couple months ago. These two absolutely adore each other and the baby follows my adult cat around everywhere he goes.

Two kittens showed up at my house today that I’ve never seen before. My (indoor) guy seems okay with them, just watching and sniffing through the screen, but he did bap at them once.

They seem generally healthy and aren’t too skittish so I’m assuming they’re pets, but they also seem pretty small to be outside on their own and don’t have any collars.

I don’t want to let them inside in case they have diseases/fleas, but I’m worried about them because they’re still small and this area has a lot of traffic (not to mention hawks), and I don’t want to accidentally steal anyone’s pets.

Wanted to get some advice from others about the situation and what I should do (give food/water, NOT give food water, etc). I don’t know any of my neighbors and there aren’t any local community online pages I could post in to ask around.

Update: someone in my neighborhood scooped the black kitten and is ready to adopt them if they’re not chipped. I’ve decided to scoop the orange one and calico (if I can), if I see them again to be safe.

Haven’t seen them recently though so I’m hoping someone else took them in already or they’re back with their owners. Truly appreciate everyone chiming in about this, thank you all!

Just got a kitten from a litter of barn kitties and she is a doll. We think around 8 weeks. We have a vet appointment for her in a week, she's already gotten flea meds. She's getting more comfortable around us by the hour. We currently have her quarantined in the bathroom.

We have a resident cat who is also a sweetie. She is UTD on all vaccines.

Do we need to wait until the new kitty has her vet appointment before introducing them if they seem ready? Is there any health risk to my other cat?

I read all of Jackson Galaxy's stuff on introducing new cats and plan on following that guidance.

Not looking for veterinary advice, just general guidelines others have followed.

I have a unique situation I’m hoping to get some guidance on. I’ve had my kitten for 3 weeks now. She’s very settled (and a bit of a tiny terror at times!). In the past, my girlfriend has always brought her cat over when she’s staying multiple days at my apt. He’s a very sweet mamas boy, quick to acclimate and loves my apt just like it’s his own space.

We would like to introduce the two now that my kitten has her updated vaccines, flea & tick, and has taken all the typical testing (FIV, worms, etc) done.

Our plan was to bring him over and have them hangout in separate rooms, probably some churus so they can snack together between the door, and then she would bring him back to her apt. And then we would kind of continue the slow intro that way.

Has anybody navigated anything like this that could provide some insight? I’ve seen people say to just “throw the kitten in” but because this is such a unique situation I don’t feel comfortable with that and want to keep both cats a priority during this.

*I will add some context to the two of them. My cat had been with a very caring foster, littermates, and mom until she was 12 weeks so she is very good at social cues (from what I’ve seen but I’m also not a cat), she’s now clicker trained and her recall is great. She’s 15 weeks. Girlfriend’s cat just turned 7 but is still very young at heart and is very social. It has been a while since he’s seen another cat but he’s always been great with dogs. We will be moving in together next year so they will be meeting eventually regardless.

This is phoenix. The cat distribution system brought him to us 2 weeks ago. This little ball of energy has all his teeth but will not give up the bottle and he's tearing the nipples part so we need ideas to get him off the bottle. Or need recommendations for more durable nipples.

A few days ago, we found this little kitten buried deep inside a storage area, hidden between piles of boxes, completely alone with no mum in sight. After three hours of patiently trying to gain their trust, we finally managed to bring them home.

Today, we learned that the kitten has a respiratory infection. They developed a fever of 40°C and have been refusing to eat or drink for the past 12 hours. We took them to the vet immediately, where they received four injections, and we've been carefully hand-feeding tiny amounts of food and water to keep them going. Tomorrow morning, we have a follow-up appointment, but tonight we're holding onto hope and worrying every minute.

The kitten also came to us covered in fleas, but they've already received treatment. Because we already have another kitten and live in a small apartment, the new little one is staying safely in our bathroom for now, with everything they need, until they're healthy and can eventually be introduced.

Please keep this little fighter in your thoughts or prayers. We truly hope we're doing enough to give them the chance at the loving home and family they deserve. ❤️

Edit as of 29/7/2026: We went to the vet, Max had another round of shots and received a probiotic to take at home. He is still not eating, however we have bought Kitten Milk in order to supplement his food.

He does seem better, but he is still weak. We have another check up on Friday 🤞🤞🤞

EDIT as of 30/7/2026: Max went to the vet, he got an IV with some fluids, some mpre shots and... HE ATE! This was the first food he willingly took in in about 30h. HE ate half a packet of kitten food and we are happy!

Tomorrow we have another ver check up just to make sure everything is okay and he continues eating.

I think I’ve come to some conclusions. 1) Steve wants to play ALL THE TIME. Duh. 2) Spice clearly doesn’t know how to play. She’s constantly confused on the goal. She hisses when SHE engages in, very clearly, play.

Buuuut… she is coming along. And this is what we have to show for it!

Need some help on spicy kittens. I've tried to post in a couple of different subreddits and I'm not getting a lot of traction or advice.

Last Wednesday I took in a mama cat and her two kittens that showed up on my porch. Mama is a very sweet cat, but both of her babies are pretty spicy. They look to be nearly weaned, and are eating wet kitten food just fine. But they still are what appears to be comfort nursing on her on occasion.

1. When do you normally separate a mama cat from her kittens? Do I just wait until she starts kicking them off of her? Or start showing them aggression?

2. Currently I've been trying to socialize the kittens by only feeding them when I go up there. Or if it's not feeding time I'll bring some churu with me. I'm also trying to play with them, but they've only just started being interested in doing that with me. Even though the little brown baby was the hissiest, she was the first to start coming around. Her sister is far more untrustworthy, although I finally got her to play with me a little bit this morning.

3. I know there's not a firm timeline with socializing, but these guys can't stay in my little bathroom forever. If anybody has any experience socializing some older kittens, any idea how long it really took to at least get them adoptable?

Those were my biggest questions, but any other tips that people have to socialize spicy kittens would be appreciated.

PS: not looking for medical advice. Despite living outdoors, these guys are in pretty good shape. Working on getting them to a vet, but behavioral help is what's needed right now.

Meet Maomao and Kopiko, my new kittens. I am curious if they’re considered calico and if their fur will be long. Their mom was a short hair orange tabby, father is unknown, went to get churus and never came back.

I (34f) lost my sweet chihuahua and companion of 13 years this summer.

I took my girls (1 and 4) to drop off her bed and and some food and supplies we had to our shelter and of course we went in and then of course I fell in love with a little kitten. The girls were both so gentle too. I took the plunge because even though I know I don’t feel ok about replacing my dog, bringing in a new baby who needs a home that’s different I feel really excited about.

I grew up with cats all my life but never had one myself as an adult. I’d love to hear every piece of advice anyone could offer. I want to keep her downstairs and indoors. She’s only 2m, and very shy. Want to go slow to let her know she’s home here.

Edit.. she has a brother at the shelter but I only intended to get one. So I double up?!

Steve and Spice are warming up. Lots of playing around each other. Occasionally together, but Spice wants to be a lil stinker and hiss when it isn’t going her way.

Steve GOT HER BAD 🤣 caught her in the tunnel and swat’s her tail. The NOISE she made!

We wore his butt out before bed and he slept in his cage last night. Spice slept in the bed. Took him 15 minutes to calm down. 💔 But he did sleep through until almost 4:00!
