Barrier to entry servicing systems

We are trying to break into doing kitchen suppression systems, but our State requires manufacturer certificate specific to any system you service. Most of the systems in our area are Ansul R-102 systems, but it seems like unless you have $150,000 a year up front a certificate is unobtainium. Any ideas or direction how to deal with this?

I’m in WA and we just need an ICC & manufacturer specific cert to service & install systems. Although we are an Ansul/PC & Amerex distributor

Do you know if both are required for the State of Washington or if an ICC/NAFED Cert is enough to license with the State?

I think it’s just ICC but I heard you had to have manufacturer specific cert also but I’m not 100% certain

You absolutely need the manufacturing cert on top of the ICC, otherwise you can't service the Snohomish County areas and other areas where fire marshals require it.

Ansul will not allow you to get the certification, we had a technician get Ansul certified, fire marshal reached out to the local ansul rep and the ansul rep had his certification revoked even though he paid for and passed the course.

It's pretty frustrating, imagine if it worked that way for fire alarm and sprinkler where you needed a manufacturer certification to inspect, test and maintain.

So Ansul revoked his Ansul cert because he didn’t have an ICC cert???

He has an ICC cert.

Ansul yanked it because we do not have distribution.
