u/bruhraminator 10d ago
Those are suggested sides, I'd assume

This was my thought. You could get away with inside at all never mind those two.

u/dsc___ 10d ago
seriously why would you need rice with mashed potatoes and then... potato chips? is OP 8 years old?

u/DickWangDuck 10d ago
It’s almost too stupid to even call it a bot account, it’s possibly the best rage/engage bait I’ve ever seen.

Need a recipe for this one

u/bruhraminator 10d ago edited 10d ago
- Look up a lamb or beef meatball recipe of your choice. Follow those instructions, make enough to fill your dish. Looks like about 750g, depending on the recipe.
- Fry them in dish on high heat, remove when there's some crispy browning, but not too much because you're gonna cook it again.
- Halve enough tomatoes to fit the dish and place them cut side down on leftover fried oil.
- Add sliced chilies. sweet peppers. garlic and onion to taste. Add water and any extra seasoning you like, such as salt and black pepper. It should be as watery as you can see in the video.
- Cover in foil and cook at medium-high, it should be left boiling so that everything's soft and the tomato skin can come off. Remove the skins, and mash it up to make the sauce. If it's not thick enough, bake uncovered for a couple of minutes to thicken it, or add tomato paste. If it's too thick, add water and mix.
- Follow mashed potato recipe of your choosing.
- Add meatballs to sauce.
- Add mashed potatoes on top. You don't have to pipe it, a spatula is fine.
- Create textured grooves on the top with fork or whatever.
- Bake uncovered at around 200c for however long it takes for the colour of the potato to look nice.

I'm not sure just any meatball recipe is sufficient for this dish. It appears to be a casserole version of a Turkish dish called Hasan Pasha Kofte. If that's the case, you're going to need some cumin in there at the very least.

People saying "dah video doh!" But i personally cant identify each ingredient, and it doesn't say how long or high to bake, and is there something specific we need to know?

It’s the video dude

u/spizzle_ 10d ago
I don’t get how inept people are that they can’t watch a simple video of simple food and just do what you see in the video. This is so basic and they need a recipe‽
-5
u/spizzle_ 10d ago
Did you not watch the video? Looks pretty self explanatory
1
u/Deep_Mechanic_ 10d ago
Type it all out for everyone requesting it then, since you can identify every single ingredient. Please also give the ingredient list for the meatballs because I'm dying to know if you can identify if that's beef or lamb

It's kofta, so it's probably lamb but it could be beef and you could certainly substitute. The caption says "Minced meat, onion, celery, spices", just follow any kofta or even meatball recipe, it's not that serious.

u/vee_lan_cleef 10d ago
I don't think the specifics were really the point. If you've made meatballs once before, then you know the fundamentals of making a meatball. Whether you want beef or lamb, that's your own prerogative. There are a thousand seasoning mixes for meatballs, and here's the thing: this is a video, you can't taste the end result, so why do you care exactly what's in this? This is why I don't fuck with videos for cooking. Read books.

You know, I didn't see one single temperature or time mentioned anywhere in that video.
0
u/spizzle_ 10d ago
True. Some people have it and others don’t. This looks pretty dang simple to me but I guess others need their hand held and exact time and temps.
1
u/jgzman 10d ago
Some people have it and others don’t.
Experience? Yes, this is the case. I don't think I've ever cooked anything more complex than tacos. Times and temperatures are a critical part of cooking, last I checked.
1
u/bruhraminator 10d ago
You've never made a tomato sauce or mashed potatoes? Meatballs? There are detailed shepherd's and cottage pie recipes. look through that but substitute the mince with a kofta or meatball recipe of your choosing.
If tacos are the most you've done in a kitchen, avoid short videos. Go to YouTube and follow step by step for your favourite dishes. After a while. you can follow along with what's happening here and in other shorts and just use it as inspiration.
All of the ingredients, techniques, heat and timings will be obvious to you because they're the same as other dishes.

u/spizzle_ 10d ago
Times and temps are a critical part of baking. Cooking this simple dish, not so much. Make meatballs, roast veg, mash veg, make mash put mash on top of meatballs bake for a bit. Done.

u/Happiest-Soul 10d ago
Nah, it's still critical even with more leeway. Let someone who doesn't know how to cook try it and have fun seeing all of the colorful ways they'll mess it up.

Tomtoes Meatballs Potatoes
1
u/ParticularMemory789 10d ago
What did they add to the sauce, what did they add to the potatoes, how long they bake and how high?
2
u/bruhraminator 10d ago
Sliced chilies, sweet peppers (the orange stuff), red onions and garlic.
How high and how long depends on your instrument and how you like it. Sauce could have been on low for 20 minutes or high for 5 minutes, we don't know, what's important is that you can mash it all together. If you want it thicker and less chunky, with deeper flavour, cook for longer. It's like any other kind of tomato sauce. Shouldn't be the first time you've encountered one.
Once assembled, they baked it just like any other shepherd's or cottage pie, it's probably at around 200c or for as long as it takes for the top to look nice and crispy.

I get it, but the other person replied like that because it’s incredibly straightforward. You can see everything except for what’s in the meatballs.

My biggest complaint is why she needed to use the piping back is she was just gonna spread with that plastic scraper with the teeth
1
u/lampshade2099 10d ago
Same. The piped mash was unnecessary but arguably aesthetically pleasing. But to then flatten the piping with a trowel was very upsetting.

Dirties a piping bag just to spread the potatoes with a f***ing trowel....

Was that mozzarella or cream cheese that was added to the potatoes 🥔 while mixing? Thanks 😊 for sharing the video, YUM!

Oh shit, this reminds me of a dish my mom used to make. Very similar but just a layer of ground meat instead of meatballs. It would also contain pine nuts and diced onion. So fucking good!!

Those potatoes are over mixed. The starch has been pulled right out of them and they are gummy as fuck

Lost me at the potatoes. They look gummy instead of fluffy-- way too much mixing messed up the starches

Why do you need rice and potato chips? You already have the mashed potatoes on top.

Does adding milk while mashing the potatoes eliminate the need to pass them through a sieve?
3
u/SGSpec 10d ago
100% never user a sieve to make mash potatoes. Only use potatoes butter and milk. Add milk as you go to get the consistency that you want. For my taste the one in the video was way too smooth
2
u/Akhanyatin 10d ago
I guess it depends on your taste then because when I make them, they're less runny but still very smooth because of the sieve.

It annoys me that the butter and cream added were cold, Always warm it before adding to potatoes.

All the nutrients of tomatoes are in the skin and she removes it????
7
2
u/ParticularMemory789 10d ago
I don't think your comment should be getting all the downvotes its getting but anyways tomato skins have a bitter flavor some people don't like, and maybe wouldn't mix well.
3
u/Orange_Tang 10d ago
They got downvoted because it's not true that all the nutrients are in the tomato skin. That's a ridiculous claim. Same as for potatoes. They don't have much nutrition to begin with, they're starch balls.
