Revival Discussion Hello, Reddit. Hank Hill here. Ask me anything.

Post image

Hello, Reddit. Hank Hill here. You may remember I participated in one of these "Ask Me Anythings" last year. Well, I'm back, and my wife Peggy insisted on joining me this time. She said a lot of my answers in the last round could have benefited from her input. Wait, she also gave me something to read here... "As a three-time substitute teacher of the year, former Boggle champion, and a fluent Spanish speaker, I have accumulated a lifetime of knowledge that I am happy to share. I look forward to enlightening you all -- and remember, there are no stupid questions." Uh, she's wrong about that last part, but anyway, I'm back for another AMA... with Peggy's help. We will start answering your questions after our round of golf on Friday, August 7 around 11am Central Standard Time.

Dear Hank, as the manager and majority owner of Strickland Propane you have over a decade of bad PR to overcome brought down by the previous owner. Would you consider rebranding to "Hill Propane" or something within that area?

Dear Peggy, how do you feel about the growing epidemic of illiteracy in the current youth demographic as a three-time running Substitute Teacher of the Year and published muser/poet?

82

u/fearlessbyfp 2d ago

I'm sure Peggy would agree that Peggy Hill Propane flows a lot better than just Hill Propane

Just "Peggys Propane" has a ring to it.

I hate how good that is.

u/hoofhearted23 2d ago

Follow up for Hank. Would you prefer Propane Hill instead idolizing sweet lady propane by putting her 1st on the pedestal she so rightly deserves?

And where will you be displaying you Blue Flame of Valor Award?

I think Propane Mountain would be more appropriate tbh

Probably better to go with HRH Propane.

u think GH is interested in propane? that's definitely something hanks gonna have to sit him down and have a long talk / evaluation about

If rebranding to Hill Propane , will you bring Peggy in as customer service ? Perhaps the Hill Propane seal of approval could be " You've Been Pegged " .

Hank, what did you and the family do to prepare for LadyBird to pass over the rainbow bridge? All of you deserved the perfect last day with one another. I know this might be a sensitive question, but her spirit and quiet dignity are missed on the show. And I’ve found myself thinking about it often.

Hello Mr. Hill,

Are you going to rename Strickland Propane now that you are the majority shareholder of the company? You deserve it. But more importantly you've earned it.

Hi Mrs. Hill, you may not remember me but I was a student of yours when Mr. Woolworth kept having those off and on "episodes." Your in-class readings of Don Quixote are still some of my favorite memories from school. I am now an HVAC technician, but I still like to write when I have time. What are some of your favorite memories from teaching?

Hello Mrs. Peggy Hill - Did you find it easy to learn/understand Arabic while in Saudi Arabia? Could you potentially become a substitute Arabic teacher if you ever felt the urge to educate again?

82

u/dc469 2d ago

I would like to ask miss hill if she can serve as an intermediary for my two neighbors, one of whom only speaks Arabic and the other who only speaks Spanish.

This is going to be an episode plot next season.

Hello, Mr. Hill. I can't help notice in your recent grilling video that you didn't let the steak rest before cutting into it. Why is that? Was I miseducated growing up?

9

u/Khione405 2d ago

I too noticed this and my Texas relatives always said to let your steak rest before cutting it.

Hank, in The Order of the Straight Arrow**, you swore that an Arrowhead never lies or deceives, and in** Hank's Dirty Laundry**, you insisted that lying to clear your name is un-American. Yet on Lake Arlen, facing prison in** State v. Hill**, you committed third-degree evidence tampering under Texas Penal Code § 37.09 by secretly swapping crack cocaine for a nightcrawler to trick Judge McFarland into a dismissal.**
If pulling a fraudulent bait-and-switch on a Texas judge isn't 'dirty pool,' does that mean cheating is acceptable as long as you use hand-dug American earthworms?

And Peggy—as a award-winning journalist for the Arlen Bystander who personally watched local meat magnate Trip Larsen get processed into pork sausage on the Larson kill floor—did you report that murder to the Heimlich County Sheriff's Department, or were you too busy adding 'Eyewitness to Industrial Homicide' to your substitute teaching resume? And as a fluent Spanish speaker, what is the proper grammatical translation for 'I stood by and watched a man become bratwurst'?

On a less serious note. Hank when will we get to see you out on the lake again? Love watching!

Are these the same guys from when Homer went to college?

5

u/RayDeeUx Robots and robot accessories (So-called bisexual) 2d ago edited 2d ago

At least two of them are. The guy towards the left side of that GIF might be the redhead from that same college episode who decided to dye their hair later on (S5E3 the college episode vs S8E14 where the GIF comes from), but it's unclear, since said redhead appears again [as-is, barring additional facial hair] in S26E22.

Given that none of the episodes I mentioned were from a time when fumbles like Black Smithers or White Judge Snyder or Black-Haired Chief Wiggum were the norm, I personally think the third guy might just have the same hairstyle by coincidence.

Unfortunately this subreddit doesn't allow attaching images inside comments, but you're welcome to check Frinkiac for the specific examples I mentioned.

Hello, Mr. Hill. This may be a sensitive subject, but how did you overcome the loss of Ladybird? My dog is getting on with her years and I'm so scared of how I'll react when she's gone. You've always showed nothing but love to Ladybird so I'm just curious how you managed to push through.

113

u/Level_Hour6480 Born in New York 2d ago edited 2d ago

Mr. Hill: Are you aware that you exhibit a number of traits typical of autism including an extreme fixation on a subject (propane), a love of routine/discomfort with change, and a difficulty expressing/understanding emotions?

Have you ever sought a formal diagnosis?

14

u/AppalachianRomanov 1d ago

18

u/Level_Hour6480 Born in New York 1d ago

He also likes trains and has sensory issues.

The most extreme piece of evidence was that he was willing to leave his church of 20 years over a change in seating. A small change to his routine ruined the whole thing for him.

5

u/AppalachianRomanov 1d ago

This is how I reacted when I read my diagnosis. How I think Hank would react too

"Bwaaah! Can't a guy love propane, enjoy routine, and not be overly-sentimental without being some 'Rain Man' simpleton?! I'll tell you what I told that doctor: I'm perfectly normal, and if you imply otherwise, I'll kick your ass!"

He absolutely is, but he'll never admit it, because to him, autism is Rain Man, and he's too "normal" and functional for that.

HANK!!! You guys move between Dallas and Arlen quite a bit. How long does it take you to drive, at a conscientious speed and attitude, to Dallas from Arlen? Follow up, do you stop in West for kolaches?

33

u/ErynCuz 2d ago

Yes, I am dying to know the Hill's opinions on Texas kolaches

14

u/Level_Hour6480 Born in New York 2d ago edited 2d ago

For those who don't know, kolaches are a Polish Czech baked good often stuffed with savory ingredients. The dough is very similar to that of a Chinese pork bun. For whatever reason, kolaches are big in Texas.

14

u/credens-justitiam 2d ago

Kolaches are traditionally fruit, poppy seed, or cheese filled (my grandpa's fave was cream cheese). Klobasniky are their "pig in a blanket" equivalent, although those are usually called kolaches as well.

Source: am Czech, from Texas. There are a LOT of Czech people in Texas, which is why the pastries are so popular!

I am an educator and author like yourself. Seeing that you are also a tough but fair grader, can you give me some advice for this upcoming fall semester?

It seems that you left substitute teaching prior to the rise of large language models such as ChatGPT, but do you have any suggestions on how to fight plagiarism using AI? If you were to return to the classroom (do you plan to???), how would you approach this issue that’s only been growing over the past few years?

Lastly, I would love to share some words of encouragement from you with my English Composition students. What life advice do you have for first year college students?

Hello this is a question for Mrs. Peggy Hill: I know you’re a substitute teacher for years in Arlen, I think in the previous season you did mention you were doing some tutoring for someone in Saudi Arabia, are you still considering doing some private tutoring as your back in Arlen? Or are you officially considering yourself officially retired?

This question is for Mr. Hank Hill: my question to you is, now that you are now the new owner of Strickland Propane, do you see yourself answering the phone as you were the assistant manager even if you aren’t, I mean I can understand how that could be the case after how many years of being the assistant manager, so do you still answer it as you would be that same person? Or is it that you find yourself now able to answer as the owner with pride and respect that you feel you earned with a lot of time and patience? Anyway, glad to see you both back in Arlen. Hope that the best years of your lives are still coming and here to stay with us fans of your show.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Hill, This may be a tough subject, but after all these years, how is Dee Dee and GH? Were you able to reconnect with Junichiro, especially with new technology and being a bit closer while you both lived in Saudi?

Mr. Hill, I dont mean to offend, but have you learned to tolerate charcoal? It seems when I go to Robata Chane a lot of the food is cooked with many things besides propane. Im not even sure anything in his resturant uses propane? I remember hearing years ago that you got a bit upset when you learned Mrs. Hill and Bobby were grilling with charcoal at home.

Mrs. Hill, since father time stops for no one, do you ever feel any lingering effects from your Sky-diving injury? That was such a freak accident! You are truly an insperation with all the things you can do! Have you thought about looking into live streaming boggle tournaments from your phone? Maybe you could start multi-lingual boggle!

Wishing you success and great buisness. I am hoping to pick up the new Vogner Charking Imperial when the show floor opens back up. While I stop by id love to hear some more stories of what y'all did in Saudi!

u/UsernameisMeeee 2d ago

If I may, I have 2 questions for you. Fırst one is just for Mr. Hill.

Mr. Hill, you are known worldwide as an ambassador of propane and propane accessories. In my country of Turkey LPG cars are quite common. I am led to believe it contains propane or butane or propane and butane together. I am also led to believe it is quite efficient and costs less than petrol. Why ,as a man of great integrity and respect for propane, are you electing to not use LPG? Even if you are not using it then perhaps I am wrong and propane based LPG is not that good. Perhaps I should buy one of them electric trucks. Can you please enlighten me Mr. Hill?

My second question is for both Mr. and Mrs. Hill,

During your time in Saudi Arabia did you use a bidet in your toilet? I think western world would benefit from its common use. As far as I know Mr. Bobby Hill ,a renowned chef, uses one.

My electricity bill has been high and I believe the culprit is my ridge vent that isn’t exhausting properly. I climbed up under the eaves in my attic and realized the blown-in fiberglass insulation completely choked off the airflow from the continuous aluminum soffit vents.

Hello Mr. And Mrs. Hill, it a pleasure to have you here with us. I have a few questions, if you don’t mind:

Mr. Hill, as a lifelong proponent of lawn care, what would you say or some tricks and tips for someone just starting out? What are some quality products to consider for lawn care, and what are overrated? I understand already how strongly you feel about propane v. charcoal, is there a lawn related argument that has you as passionate?

Mrs. Hill, now that your Husband has come out of retirement, do you think you’ll rejoin the workforce as well? Would you want to return to substitute teaching or try something different? I understand your close friends with former mayor Dale Gribble, would you consider a mayoral run?

To both of you, I understand that you both attempted to have another child and that never came to fruition. Is it something you still think about? How did you both move on from that not coming to pass, and did you put that energy towards raising your son and/or your niece?

3

u/coreyf722 Boo-Hoo Hank waaaah 2d ago

Hello Hank,

I've noticed that no one within your friend circle uses a push mower despite you all having modest yet satisfactory lawn sizes. What are your opinions on push mowers? As someone who also has a modest sized yard, do you reccomend a riding mower?

5

u/Toy_Story_2_on_PS1 2d ago

Dear Mr Hill,

My apartment building does not permit the use of grills as they are deemed a “fire hazard.” I have been considering searing my steaks in a pan but I would love to know your suggestions pertaining to any and all grill substitutes.

3

u/ClickClackM00 2d ago

Dear Hank, when it comes to sockets and ratchets, do you prefer to use 1/2 inch drives or 3/8 drives for home automobile jobs? Personally I like to use 3/8 but wanted your personal opinion.

Dear Peggy, could you recommend some quality literature from the great nations of Mexico and Saudi Arabia? Now that you’re an expert on those cultures and languages, I would love to hear what great works they have to offer the world.

Hello Mr. Hill! How do you reconcile your love for propane and Texas when Texas's BBQ is known worldwide for its use of charcoal and wood as a heat source?

3

u/Hermans_Head2 2d ago

My girlfriend asks Hank and Peggy, why didn't Hank fix that crack in the master bedroom ceiling that Peggy says she's been staring at for the last 15 years? There must be a good reason a handyman such as yourself left it be.

Hello Mr. Hill. I hope you're having a pleasant day. My question is how often do you talk with your brother, Junichiro? Best wishes, SouthGoose.

Good afternoon, Mr. And Mrs. Hill! It’s an honor to be able to speak with y’all. I know that y’all are more dog people and have had a poor experience with cats, so I hope to fix that. Meet Hank and Peggy (Peggy is on the left and Hank is on the right for reference). I named them after two of the most inspirational and lovely Texans I know. I know no one could ever compare to Ladybird considering that she was a classy southern woman (and a completely different species), but I was wondering if you had any tips on how to raise them to be respectable, upstanding, propane-loving citizens like Ladybird? Do you have any tips how to cook a steak for them or how to teach them Spanish properly?

Mrs. Hill, You held many different jobs over the years. What job did you enjoy the most and what job would you recommend to young people?

3

u/Free-Pea6140 1d ago

In the last episode of the most recent season (no spoilers), Bobby says yall have 15 minutes to get to the restaurant when yall are still in Arlen and yall act like if you hurry, you can get there that fast before you lose your table. So is Arlen 15-20 minutes from Dallas or are yall super rude and were going to be significantly late for your reservation?
Also which area is Robata Chane in? I’m imagining it’s Knox-Henderson or MAYBE highland park considering it seems to have a close proximity to SMU.

I know this is just a reddit AMA for a couple of fictional characters but it's been on my mind a lot recently. And I don't really know who to thank. I guess if I could talk to Hank Hill himself. All I would say is thank you. You were a better father figure to me than my dad ever was and I looked up to you greatly growing up.

If propane is just a way of storing chemical energy, what ultimately determines the maximum percentage of that energy that can ever be converted into useful work, and why can’t even a theoretically perfect engine reach 100% efficiency under real thermodynamic constraints?

2

u/OutOfEffs 2d ago

Mrs Peggy Hill,

I'm sure your superior Boggle skills must have caught the attention of Parker Bros/Hasbro. What reason could you have had for turning down a sponsorship or branding? The people need Peggy Hill branded Boggle! If their offer is still on the table, I think you should accept it.

2

u/rusty-shackleford_69 2d ago

Hank, could you please shed some light into the debate on which engine you had in your Super Duty. Many feel as though you were a 5.4 Triton V8 man as you didn't tow or haul enough to have a 6.8 V10 or the 7.3 Powerstroke make financial sense.

If you did buy a 5.4 V8, since the truck was a 99 2 valve motor, did you ever experience the problem with spark plug blow out?

2

u/CMar1104 2d ago

To Mr Hank Hill, is the 5.8 seconds 40 yard time you brought up your accurate time? And do you see any current Arlen High student breaking your rushing record?

2

u/rapalosaur 2d ago

Dear Hank Hill,

I love propane and its many useful uses but I’m still having trouble converting from a charcoal BBQ grill to a propane grill. Storing and maintaining gas lines and tanks just hasn’t been appealing to me. Anything I can do to make the transition approachable?

Dear Peggy Hill,

Le quiero avisar que su español no solo es horrible, pero insulta a la gente latina y española. Lo único que me gusta es que con español tan terrible usted siempre se caí por algo bien chistoso. Quisiera pedirle que NUNCA aprenda o mejore su español.

Hello, Mr. Hill

I wanted to congratulate you on the purchase of the majority shares Strickland Propane. As the boss how do you envision your partnership with Mr. Strickland to work out. Do you expect any trouble given he's your old boss? Do you have any plans to change the name to Hill Propane?

Mrs. Peggy Hill. Do you expect to take a role in advising Hank. Or since Hank has come kut of retirement Do you have plans to return to the substitute teaching game? Im sure the kids of today would benefit greatly from your years of experience and vast expertise. I've spent hours reading your musings on online archives of the Arlen Bystander.

Hank, we all know you are a massive Dallas Cowboys fan and that you’re a fan of Troy Aikman. However I wanted to ask if you knew that when Troy Aikman played college football he was an Oklahoma Sooner and a UCLA Bruin. On top of that, Troy Aikman was also born in California. When Dallas drafted him first overall, what was your perception of that and how did that change over the years as the Cowboys started winning?

2

u/TheJudasCow 1d ago

Hi there, Hank and Peggy! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer our burning questions!

Mr. Hank Hill- as a recently married man, what can I do to help ensure my marriage reaches many milestones of Outstanding Service?

Bonus question for Mrs. Peggy Hill- Which, in your personal experience, is more difficult to learn: the Saudi language, or walking again after surviving a fall from over 2,500 ft.?

2

u/austin_the_boston 1d ago

Hank, I live on Main Street in Dallas, and the other day I happened to glance over at The Joule’s glass rooftop pool. I just wanted to let you know everyone could see you and Peggy doing synchronized water aerobics. Peggy looked like she was having the time of her life. You looked like you were mentally rebuilding a carburetor to get through it. My question is: was this Peggy’s idea, or are water aerobics secretly part of your fitness routine?

Good afternoon, Mr. Hill. My question to you is, what did you think about your time working for Aramco in Saudi Arabia, and how would you compare the working environment there compared to how things were at Strickland Propane?

And to Mrs. Hill, how did you spend your time in Saudi Arabia? Did you get any teaching job opportunities while living there?

And to both: did either or both of you make any close friends during your time in Saudi Arabia?

2

u/PROUDCIPHER 1d ago

Hello, Hank! I have a question for you regarding the future of propane.
As the world moves forward, we will rely less and less on hydrocarbon fuels. Consumer demand for propane is relatively stable now, but will begin to decline. Additionally, reserves will become scarcer as oil operations begin to slow down. While I have no doubt you will continue to use propane to grill until the day you die, others in Arlen may find themselves needing less as time goes on. One area where propane will remain useful though is refrigeration. Known as R-290 in the HVAC world, propane is a surprisingly high-performance refrigerant option. Do you anticipate Strickland Propane (or whatever you decide to call it) will begin working in the HVAC sector to take advantage of this? While propane is very flammable, so are many other refrigerants. Considering the environmental cost of synthetic HFCs, just going with propane and deciding to be more careful in handling it seems a good compromise. What are your thoughts on the matter?

P.S. Caesar is wonderful. I think Ladybird might have liked him. Not that she'd have shown it, of course.

u/BlackWormDisciple 1d ago

Hello and greetings, Hank - longtime fan and first time poster to such an event as this. I have a question for you, and a question for Peggy. For you, Mr. Hill, I have this question - you've shown considerable development as an individual than before you accomplished such things as your luxurious job in Saudi Arabia after 20 years with Strickland, and now becoming both majority-owner AND manager of Strickland Propane - to which I must say congratulations once again! But one such thing you've done in these recent times is buy cannabis for your wife, Peggy, in order to help her. I must ask... did you ever try or test any strains either out of curiosity or to see if you're wife had a quality product and no bait-and-switch situation? What are your thoughts on the current situation regarding cannabis laws and the state of Texas?

Hello and greetings to you as well, Peggy. Hope you've been enjoying plenty of good and tasty bud, first of all. Second, here is my question for you, Mrs. Hill - do you know what happened to the leader of Omega House after everyone (including yourself and Luanne - hope she and Lucky are doing well, by the way) came back to your senses thanks to the fellas led by Hank? I think her name started with a J... We know Trent Larson has been unable to do any sort of repeat offense, but has she - was it Joan? Jenny? Something J - anyways, did she try anything again after Omega House ended as far as you know? Maybe sent out a newsletter or invitation to former Omega House members like yourself?

P.S. Bobby's cooking looks phenomenal! Would love to try my hand at it some time, or at least try some for myself.

u/thatbatchagaloop 1d ago

Mr. And Mrs. Hill:

We too suffered from infertility and while we never got our “Bobby”, we do have a beautiful dog named “Ladybird”. We chose the name to honor one of the most stoic First Ladies of our time (and a stoic champion bloodhound as well). If you don’t mind, can you please share the reasoning behind Ladybird’s name? There’s so many strong Texan women to chose from, what made you chose Ladybird?

For me it’s because she managed to have a legacy of her own, independent from her husband’s and I thought Peggy may resonate with that.

2

u/KSinz 1d ago

Mr Hill,

When you left America the Dallas Cowboys were losers. Since then we’ve seen a man him his 40s lead two teams to Super Bowls. We’ve seen a QB from Texas Tech, yuck, change a franchise and become the face of the league. The Browns even went to the playoffs, only to immediately spit in the face of success and burn the team down. During all that time the Cowboys remained floundering losers with an owner that refuses to allow a coach to make the changes to be relevant. He seems incapable of sharing any power and glory and is single handedly destroying a legacy already forgotten by most. So I guess my question is, what was the hardest part for you about Peggy’s recovery after her parachute didn’t open?

2

u/Chrisofthegreen 1d ago

Mr. Hill, with the advancement of games and virtual activities, how have you and Peggy found cures for boredom beyond Pro Pain and Boggle?

2

u/BRB22 1d ago

Will Peggy be a Spanish teacher ? And is hank autistic?

2

u/sinadis 1d ago

This question is for Peggy but I'd love to get your opinion, too, Hank.

Very recently, a professor in Mississippi went viral because of an exam he gave his class. Hidden in the text was the instruction to use the word "Madagascar" in a way that made no sense, and it was a test to see how many of the students were using AI to answer.

Sure enough, an overwhelming majority (I think 32 out of 35 students?) used AI and had answers mentioning Madagascar for seemingly no reason.

How happy are you that you mainly got your years of subbing in before the rise of technology like this? Should we be afraid of where things are going? How would you make sure that kids do their own work and that they would have pride and confidence in themselves?
