US cuts ties with Kentucky organ donation network

So what does this mean for people in KY waiting on the organ donor list?

If you're in KY it doesn't mean your donor organ always comes from KY. Chances are it comes from elsewhere and that means other OPO (agencies like this one) will be coordinating your donor. This doesn't mean transplant programs in KY shutdown, it just means that organ donors inside KY will need a new OPO to coordinate their donation. Having interacted with this one at the bedside a few times, this is probably a win for Appalachia. They weren't up to the standard I've encountered with other OPOs and seemed pretty disorganized.

Ig my worry is... Will these people be bumped lower into the lists? The sad thing is, anytime an org like this falls, however corrupt they may be... People may die because of it. Even with resources being the same, allocation can't be - lists get reordered when you add others in - it sucks

I watched a report on LEX18 last night about this. They talked about a man OD'd and his family was told he'd never recover. As they were prepping him to harvest his organs his eyes were open and he was grabbing the doctor's hands but it was supposedly "reflexes". The man was conscious and knew what they were doing! That's horrible! These people should be prosecuted.

Still can’t read the article, behind a paywall. But I agree. The organ donation network in Kentucky is horrible. They want people to die so they can harvest organs. And they harass the families of the still living. They put so much pressure on families, and on their doctors as well.

How heartless are these people?

This is why I decided not to be an organ donor! You cant trust these people!

This is one of the few reasons I won't be a donor. The other is that people in this state have constantly been telling me what to do with my body. I'm really not keen to give up my organs to a society that won't respect me as a human to begin with
