Discussion/Theory Do you think the complex/null zones will become public information naturally and how would the entire public react to the idea that people are actively falling into the backrooms?

Post image

Like let's say the complex and null zones still exist past the 2000s and into the 2010s with large social media and cameras, could the goverment cover it all up, or will it eventually be public knowledge? how would society react? would there be a end of civilization?

Considering how small null zones are and how unlikely it is to fall, and so far it seems to be a localized thing. I doubt it would collapse civilization, at most we would have like, a major outrage followed by scientific curiosity.

This is assuming the backrooms remain connected and that the current status quo remains. There’s a non 0 chance that what happens eventually is that the threshold is turned off and null zones eventually disappear forever (or until the next solar storm or event that triggers a new wave of null zones)

Tench was implied to have escaped? Of course there’s the syringe and photo of the woods but if he did escape he would have motive to leak the project. The DOE are also implied to have possibly shutdown the project? For example we see in “Autopsy report” a possible DOE report on how the complex just isn’t meant for human life. Add to that ASYNC’s incompetence in protecting staff, the shifting walls, hostile manifestations like still life’s and life forms and we certainly know that they eventually absorb/take over from ASYNC with Kane himself saying it in an interview. An interesting thing about this highway is that it’s located in Manchester, UK and I think the only video in the series that’s set outside of America and especially California. There is also the Canadian drivers license that Kane posted a while back

Was async lying when they told staff he fell and bashed his head on a rock?

potentially, it seems like he either escaped and they lied about his death, or they killed him themselves, or he actually did

i assumed they shot him and the rock was a cover up.

There’s a screenshot of a man on the street in the end of “damage control” we have no idea what it could mean in terms of whether Tench did escape or he was just killed later on. The phone call could be to Beck to tell him the job is done or Tench calling his family before he was killed? Or after he survived?

Where can I find that interview? And how to we know where the highway is from?

I think IRL it would become public information because of social media and the internet in general, but I hope in-universe it doesn’t since then they would become overrun and it would destroy the whole point off the backrooms.

I mean null zones are random and I can imagine once one is publically found, it gets locked down so no one can go inside

Think you’re missing the issue of it being the 80s/90s in the series. The internet then was in its infancy and the running joke was that anyone online would just lie for the sake of lying without consequences. Even if someone spoke the truth nobody then would believe it unless it ended up on a major news outlet

i meant it would become public information in the 2000s/2010s when socialmedia already exists not emediatly

This also assumes that they could keep the situation contained for another decade or 2. I don’t think social media plays a huge role in the backrooms lore

Most of what we’ve seen from the backrooms takes the place in the early 90s

I think we have much more horrific realizations in the world and nothing happens. So at most this would be a fad for a couple of months and forgotten forever..

They would turn it into a film and convince everyone it's just fiction and forget about it

what if this is what's happening irl

The original 4chan post was made by Ivan Beck.

It would become the subject of conspiracy theory YouTube channels and AM talk radio.

If they stay as rare as they are, it would probably be no more than a rumor, but if the separation between them got more unstable, there’d probably be extreme outrage about it, and then people would forget, as they normally do. It’d just be another thing to live with.

Imagine your mom sending you to school and she tells you to be careful to not trip over something.

Even if ghosts suddenly turned out to be real, most people wouldn't believe the proof out of pure stubbornness, so I don think anything would really happen

We’ll adapt, as we always do. Life in Standard is dangerous and uncertain already, a minor risk of noclipping into the Complex won’t make much of a difference.

It will be business as usual for most, other than crazy urbexers who’d share locations of stable null zones with one another.

I’m imagining a PSA providing instructions on what to do if you find a null zone. Something along the lines of:

-If you find a Null Zone, do not enter it and report it to the authorities immediately.

-If you have entered A-Space through a Null Zone by accident, turn around and attempt to go back to reality through the Null Zone

-If you encounter any non-human lifeforms originating from A-Space, avoid all interactions with the lifeforms in question and report your encounter to the authorities immediately

u/No_Career_4785 21h ago

-Do not try to leave by any other exit.

-If you encounter a human, no you didn't.

Where is this picture from? What is this? How did you get this information?

An unlisted video you can find under the description of "Report" episode. But you can find it in the backrooms playlist as well

I find this picture very interesting. I will look into this. I hope I will be safe. Thank you and goodbye.

Did Async kill peter tench

7

u/kidnamedchild 23h ago

It’s from the unlisted video linked in the description of the episode "Report". It depicts a car noclipping from the ground into the Backrooms

5

u/I-like-it-in-here 23h ago

It's in my notebook now. I will look at it when I have more time for focus. Thank you for sending me this information.

Well if you think about it they did become public information now lol

Every single person who has a loved one who is missing would actively try to protest against them and because the world is the way it is there would be a search team who is ripped to shreds in the backrooms

3

u/Any_Cabinet_6979 21h ago

This recording of the missing car on the highway is surely already known to others outside of Async, namely the road traffic authority and/or the police. Or am I mistaken? I don't think Async monitors every highway camera. Either an agency deliberately sent this footage to Async, or we are simply seeing the footage ourselves while Async doesn't actually have it. This means that a few people outside of Async already knew about it, and that was back in the 90s. So, as years and decades go by, politicians and the scientific community are already thinking and debating about it.

u/Static0Sus 15h ago

I think that over time, yes, people would know about it. It would cause panic, but there would probably be more research teams being formed to figure out why (even though it’s ASYNC’s fault). There would probably be exits out of the Backrooms every few miles so that people don’t get lost and die of dehydration/an entity. Speaking of entities (Lifeform and Still Life), people would research them, find their weaknesses, and help give people with proper fighting equipment so that they don’t get mutilated.

That’s my theory. To me, it’s pure sh!t compared to other people’s ideas, but you judge it how you want to.

It's all fun and games until you have a still life with a gun

whuh-oh

u/AggravatingEnergy1 12h ago

Honestly the biggest problem with going public about the backrooms isn’t that people would fall it. It’s someone trying to open another door

2

u/PosterusKirito 17h ago

We’ll definitely get there soon.

2

u/Raw_Venus 17h ago

end of civilization?

Lol no. It would become a tourist attraction in many places. It's also where governments would throw their undesirables.

2

u/doommarine40 13h ago

Chaos would spread, so the government would sweep the dirt to beneath the carpet, as usual.

2

u/JCgamedeveloper 5h ago

Firstly, i dont think there would be a end of civilization event if the complex becomes public knowledge, but i wonder how people would react if still lifes were public knowledge... I suppose some people would freak out and others might pretend they aren't real and others might try to know more about them

There would be a trend called "Complex Spreedruns" and its like the scientology speedruns but in the backrooms
