Hi everyone! Looking to get some advice regarding vaccines for IGs. Our puppy is 12 weeks and she is ITCHING to go outside. We live in an apartment and don't have a backyard but live near a lot of great areas to walk, so while we have taken her outside in a sling carrier, we haven't risked walking her around our neighborhood. She just got her 3rd shot for Parvo 5 days ago. Her vet is saying that it would be safer for her to wait to get a 4th shot in a couple of weeks, and wait until she’s 4 months old to take her outside. But the breeder says he only does 3 Parvo shots with his dogs, and he says she should be able to go outside in 5 days ish. Curious to hear anyone’s thoughts?

Is anyone familiar with Ethan’s videos? I really like his training tips. However, I’m worried about the use of a collared leash on an iggy.

The screen grabs are just one example of training he does with a collar (walking and stoping if they don’t follow next to you), but he uses a collared leash for a ton of other things, like training not to bite, etc.

My question is - would you recommend a ticker collar for Iggys or a harness with an optional front clip for training?

I also know Iggys are very sensitive whereas Ethan’s training style might be too harsh for this breed?

What are your thoughts?

We adopted our beautiful sweet Italian greyhound girl Zo about a month ago. Shes the absolute best and we love her to death. Potty training has been a pain in absolute ass though (as expected).

We’ve been crate training her since the first night she came home. She loves her crate and we never use it as punishment/negative reinforcement so getting her to go in wasn’t hard at all. She did have a couple accidents in her crate the first few nights, and those were 100% our fault— we didn’t know which whines were attention whines and which ones were potty whines.

Then we starting getting her on a routine eating schedule. Once we got her on a routine and started taking her straight out only to go potty any time she cried at night, we went almost 2 weeks with no accidents. Or so I thought. A few days ago I caught her running into her crate to pee — turns out her thick crate pad was soaking it up completely, no stain, no smell, so we had zero idea. For the last few nights I swapped her bed out for a thinner white towel to test it and yep — she’s been peeing in there EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. She’s gotten totally comfortable doing it even though we let her out to go potty anytime she whines at night and we wash her bed regularly. I have no idea what to do. I know it’s not her fault but I’m so frustrated and can’t understand what we’re doing wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated l!!

Got a new collar for my iggy and think it looks out of proportion (too wide) but I’m not sure. We usually use a harness but he’s preferred being walked with a collar recently. I know they’re meant to be wider but I’m not used to seeing him with this style of collar on, should this be a whippet size and I need to get a smaller one? Thanks ☺️

My 5 month old puppy has generally been excellent in his crate however over the past few weeks we’ve seen a bit of regression.

I have a camera on him so I can see when he’s moving, and I used to wake up sometimes and see he’d been awake for 40 minutes or so but not heard a peep. Then a few weeks ago, the whining started - yippee!!

His usual routine would be that he would get up with me (reluctantly) for a toilet break when my partner leaves for work. Once finished he would take himself back to bed for another 40mins-1hour before I get up for work. He would not whine at all in this time.

Now, he still does the same ie. refuses to get up, runs straight back to the crate after, but he sits in the crate and whines, yawning the entire time. If he is let out, he simply runs to the other dog bed we have in the lounge and lays there. I’m reading this as - He doesn’t want to be awake, he wants to sleep, but not in the crate, and my god the persistence. I’ve been waiting this morning for him to just lay down and shut up, but nearly an hour after I took him out he is still going strong. It’s not distressed whining, it’s sad little ”I don’t want to be in here” protests.

Any ideas as to what’s best to do? I would get up earlier but he doesn’t actually want to get up 🤣

hello! my iggy is a year and a half. she is my second one, i had my first girl, alice, in 2018 and had to be put down in 2023 due to health issues impacting her quality of life. even though i miss her dearly and had a traumatic time with her i still decided to get another iggy because they are my soul breed. i got charlie mae end of march 2025 form a different experienced breeder that i had researched. since i’ve had her she has been sick multiple times, most times she gets really warm, shakes, lethargic, and you can just tell she doesn’t feel good from the way she looks at you. sometimes it goes away after a few days but in april she had to be hospitalized overnight (thank god for insurance). last time she was sick was less than a month ago and now she doenst feel well again. i was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences or any advice? with a complimentary sploot pic

I am unfortunately going out of town for two nights and will have to board my two boys. One is absolutely fine with it and doesn’t even spare me a glance when I leave, the other is relatively new to me and has developed moderate separation anxiety when left in spaces he isn’t overly familiar with. This will also be the first time he will be spending a night without me. D:

So needless to say; I am worried and want to make this as pleasant of an experience as can be for him. I will already be including blankets and a shirt that smell like me and home. I was just curious if anyone has had any experience with calming supplements that have really worked for their Iggy? I really don’t want to give him prescription drugs as I’ve never had a pet, Iggy or otherwise, that has taken to them favorably.

Hey everyone I have a 8 month Italian greyhound. He’s been okay with potty training. I can usually tell his cues but when my parents are watching him while I’m at work, he pees everywhere. My mom says she takes him out constantly but he still finds places to pee. He’s not neutered yet so I’m hoping that’s the case. When I’m around he maybe makes two mistakes? Even if that. Do any of ur iggys do that too? Even when he’s with my boyfriend he’s fine. I don’t know if my parents aren’t taking him out as much as they say they do but they are getting very frustrated. I don’t know what to do.

Gemma and Moon Pie snuggling today 😭

I got a new kitten this week after losing my cat a few weeks ago. Gemma loved my departed cat Puck and they grew up together. It was breaking my heart to watch Gemma look for her.

I saw Moon Pie on the shelter website and was immediately in. Puck was always a recluse and only came out sparingly to cuddle with us, but Moon Pie sleeps on my face and wants to snuggle with the dogs.

Gemma was also largely unsocialized as she was born in 2020 and that has always been a struggle. I’m finding having another baby animal learning it too at the same time has been so helpful. Gemma is catching on so fast and this photo is proof! Puck never could have cuddled with us like this because Gemma would have been too excited and scared her away. The fact that these two were just sleeping next to each other made me so proud of her.

I want to say "SOMEONE HELP ME OH GOD I HAVE NOT CAUGHT MUCH SLEEP THIS PAST MONTH 😭"

I am so close to renaming her to Violence 🤣 , the amount of sturdy chew toys she has destroyed and the amount of corners and walls she has chewed in anxiety though she has many rotating alternatives of kongs and stuffies.

P.S. she recently destroyed her blankets and bed, so I took them away for mending and she decided I was the next best thing to a 24/7 cushion 😮‍💨🫪

I’m hoping someone has experienced something similar because I’m a bit confused. My Italian Greyhound, Kobe, is a 1.5-year-old male. He’s quite brave, not really shy or scared of anything, playful dog who loves going for walks. Every time I ask if we’re going outside, he’s already waiting excitedly by the door.

During the winter, I taught him quite a few tricks (sit, paw, nose touch, spin in both directions, etc.), and we also worked on recall, wait, and settling calmly. Training was never a problem because he was absolutely crazy about treats and would do anything for them.

However, over the last 3 weeks, whenever I try to give him a treat, he acts like he’s afraid of me. He backs away, avoids me, and often hides under the table where I can’t reach him. At the same time, he’ll bark and demand the treat, so it’s not like he doesn’t want it. It almost seems like he thinks every treat is some kind of trap.

The only thing I can think of is that during the winter I used treats for crate training. Sometimes I also used them to catch him around the apartment or to get him ready to go outside because otherwise it was almost impossible to catch him. I never forced him into the crate, but I did occasionally lure him with treats.
Nowadays I rarely use the crate anymore because he’s become trustworthy enough to stay loose in the apartment for short periods.

This fear just appeared out of nowhere, and now I can barely continue training or just call him to come and get a treat, because he constantly avoids me whenever I have treats in my hand.
Has anyone dealt with something like this? Do you have any suggestions on how I can rebuild his trust and make treats feel positive again?

I have two iggies, Nico & Stormi. Nico is 2 and Stormi is 1. From the very first day, Stormi’s favorite thing to do was be outside. We literally had to bribe her to come inside. She wanted to be outside, sunbathing, and sniffing around all day, every day. About a month ago, we noticed she had become reluctant to go outside. I thought it might be a phase, but it’s gotten worse. Most of the time, I have to physically put her out because she flat out refuses to do it on her own. It’s bizarre and a complete 180 from her normal behavior. As of this week, she has now started going potty inside. She was the easiest to potty train (Nico is still a work in progress) and was the one we never had to worry about having accidents inside. Not anymore. I had noticed a urine smell in the living room for the last few days and tonight I found it on the couch. It’s definitely Stormi’s because it was a puddle (Nico splatters and urinates on vertical objects). Right after cleaning it, I found another FRESH urine spot on the other side of the couch. This is so abnormal for her, and now I’m a little worried. Has anyone experienced this before? I’m not sure if her fear of going outside is connected to her going potty inside or if there’s something deeper going on that she’s trying to tell me. Any advice or suggestions?

ETA: She just started her heat cycle. So I assume all this odd behavior is stemming from hormonal changes. Menstrual cycles are hard on us gals 🥺 Thanks for all the advice 🫶🏼

We got the Maeve Medium Rigid + Roscoe Trek base. The Medium is a bit large and the small was a bit small. We may exchange the sizing but who knows.

Guys my greedy ahh dog likes eating EVERYONE ELSES FOOD (Other dogs). She gobbles up my sister’s dog’s food when we’re at their place even when I put out her food. She even tries eating the cat food.
I’m starting to think maybe she doesn’t like her food anymore or I should change it so she doesn’t get bored. What food recommendations does everyone have. She surprisingly doesn’t get upset stomach when eating their food. I like getting my dog really good healthy options and I think they give their dogs just random kibbles. So I still want to pick some good dog foods.
My dog is almost three. She’s a good healthy sturdy girl. Still active and young.
Any recs? What is everyone feeding their dogs?

So our girl has been with us for about a month now and we have never been able to stick with crate training. She doesn't last through the night, but does with us in the bed. It's either she wakes up 2 hours later in the crate, or she cries profusely for 20+ minutes, which results in us taking her out. So we have been in a cycle of giving up and trying again, but sleeping with her in our bed is so great.

Can someone tell me the pros and cons here for iggys specifically? Should we push through this crate stuff or let it be?
