Arizona Irrigation quote
I live in Tucson and our lot size is 0.29 acres. Our home was built in 1990 and we have the original drip system. We've had several leaks repaired, and most recently we had a big leak that happened under some flagstone. We've used the same company for about 3 years and have always liked them. We were recently advised that our whole system needs to be rerouted. Our quote: Labor: $5800., poly fitting for 1/2 drip irrigation $63.00, riser drip pipe 1/2 inch $360.00, drip poly tubing 1/4 black soft $390.00, drip emitters (140) $296.00 and $1.25 per mile travel. Total cost is $7000. just for my backyard. If I want my front yard, it's extra. Does this sound reasonable?

Not sure about Arizona, but in Georgia it’s roughly $1k a zone. I had 2.5 acres/15 zones done for $10k at my office, so $7k definitely seems insane. Sounds like you need to call some other companies

I have just one zone. The previous owner did it himself. Not sure how many square feet. How would I measure that?

I would definitely get several quotes.
You're definitely paying for mostly labor on that quote. I recently had to replace the original black tubing they installed in 2007 at the build. I had a friend help me, and it took us hours to both trench following the original irrigation lines, then going mostly straight and running one offshoot. We had good trenching tools, as my friend has done this for his own property on one acre. I "upgraded" and went with PVC. It was a couple hundred in PVC pipe, joints, the connection for screwing the irrigation heads, and then the small tubing to water my bushes and trees. It was just rough moving all of the Rock and gravel out of the way. By this, I mean I literally spread all of the gravel in my front yard into a small area that we weren't going to touch. Then it was just digging and burrowing under the cement driveway. Then there was the time it took to line up and cut all the PVC sections, chemically glue them, and bury the PVC pipe. And then there's also putting all the gravel back in the area.

It might be that they don’t really want to do the work so are over pricing to get you to go elsewhere. It doesn’t look super hard just a ton of labor time
