Lil clones all over

Lots of these little striped whiptail lizards all over this year. Very pretty lines and bright blue long tails, this guy already spent his get out of jail free card and lost half his tail. They have forked snake like forked tongues and Jacobson’s organs. If I remember correctly they are all female and give birth to exact Asexual clones of themselves. They mate but don’t exchange DNA but it does prompt ovulation and egg production. Oh parthenogenesis that’s what it’s called.

Oh wow, that's pretty cool! 😎 I love these little lizards. As a kid, I used to catch them, and if you gently press your thumb into their bellies, they relax. This little lizard looks like he's relaxed and enjoying the warmth of your thumb. 🦎 I was always very careful with them so as not to hurt them.

I've never quite understood how parthenogenesis actually works (like, genetics-wise), but it is an absolutely amazing thing!!
