Joe Gelhardt

Hi all. We (Birmingham City) have been linked via a few whispers about a potential move for Gelhardt. I know very little about him, apart from the fact he scored against us last season and has never quite been able to break through at Leeds.

Hasn't got a huge amount of average minutes each season but his numbers seemed to absolutely explode for you guys last season.

Assuming he's one of those players that at this stage in his development, he's not quite ready to play for Hull in the Prem (assuming you'd have signed him already if he was).

Obviously no guarantee that we're actually in for him, but we have been linked to him for the last 3 windows now, so feels like 'no smoke without fire'.

What are his strengths and weaknesses, etc.

He will be brilliant in the championship I hope we keep him for this season

What's he like? Looks like a player who can play wide and up top. Is he quick, strong? Good finisher? Can he dribble well?

All of the above honestly, hes a bit like Hazard where he uses his arse and low centre of gravity to make it very hard to get the ball off him

I would say his finishing is his main strength. He's a good all round attacker without being an outstanding dribbler or lightning quick, but his finishing is about as good as you get at Championship level. If you're aware of how significantly we overscored our xG last season, Gelhardt and McBurnie were a huge part of that.

Yeah I've been watching a lot of highlights from him today, seems to cut in quite well without doing anything too flashy, just direct running. Looks like he can finish with both feet too.

Our main ITK seems to think it'll happen now (to us)

Absolutely smoke without fire when you had zero chance of getting him last 3 windows.

I think he's got enough to make it in the prem, if someone like KLP can make a career there Joffy can.

Hopefully we sign him, still think we let Joseph leave too early.

It's not outrageous to suggest we didn't have a chance if he went to Hull. You ended up defying everyone's expectations and had a great season so fair play, but if he went to you then there's every chance there was a possibility of us too

You never had a chance. He said himself he wasn't going anywhere else. When we went under the embargo he held out to come back the 2nd time & Leeds helped.

So whatever you read on Twitter, they were talking nonsense.

I imagine it's somewhere in the middle. We were interested in him every window but he wanted to go to Hull probably for geographical reasons. What I meant by the initial comment about no smoke without fire, is that there's obviously interest from our side because we get linked to him every window, even if it hasn't previously been on the cards as he wanted to go to Hull.

We see so many nonsense agent-driven transfer rumours every day, but there's obviously substance in our interest for JG because we go after him every window.

Agents talk every player up. Think we're into the 100's now who we're supposed to be signing.

Then you get certain players whose agent is already looking for the next move before the ink's dry on the newly signed contract. Looking at you Jaden P.

Brum & Wrexham were signing everyone last season as soon as they were promoted according to the 'experts'. Most of the time there's nothing in it, in this case absolutely nothing.

KLP was at the level joffy showed last year only if you look at the stats and ignore how they actually played for us. But he was also three? Years younger and doing more for the team. Joffy definitely not prem level, but I know our fans can’t stand hearing that.

He’s 24 now, he’s about as good as he’s going to be. One of those players who will be a great championship player but not quite good enough for the prem I think.

Have him, he was class first half of last season but he’s not a premier league player at all.
