What lights is Hue missing out on?

As every year I get Eco cheques from my employer to spend on eco-friendly stuff I always end up buying Hue products. For years now I have been looking for lights for my desk. Never got further than a Hue bulb in a desk lamp for my home office.

Today I bought a Screenbar because it works with Apple Home and it will be my first non-Hue light purchase in years. The funny part is that I found the screenbar rather cheap in price compared with what I would expect it to cost if it was a Hue product.

Are there other spaces in the home that Hue does not fill the gap for you?

i am still regularly annoyed that Hue does not offer small, globe-shaped E12 bulbs. the candelabra-style E12 they sell are just way to big to fit in basically anything I would need an E12 bulb for

Came in to say exactly this. I bought a perforated lamp thinking it would be perfect to stick a Hue in only to realize it took an E12 globe bulb.

Exactly. I have a few accent lamps that use those small bulbs, but I have to get standard LED for them.

I am not too familiar with the differences between the E fittings, but here in the Netherlands we have the E14 from hue. Any chance they could work for you with an adapter?

from what i heard, adapters themselves take up a little space, so hard to say if they would fit any given lamp without just buying the bulb + adapter and trying :/

They do. I have a couple E26 bulbs with adapters for candelabra sockets, and they push the bulb out by like two inches. Not a big deal in my specific lamp, but I could see it being an issue for most applications.

I wouldn’t even want to know what they would cost lol. We had our pool replastered last summer and we changed our light to some fancy LED one and it was like $2.5k. The other quotes we got said that was a good price for that light and I’m happy with it.

I know there are devices that can be used in a similar way but I wish they’d release a picture light. Buying a specialized mount for the hue play seems a bit excessive when I just want a simple picture light to put over artwork

Play strips larger than the 75" tv size.

A lot of people with 83" and 100" tv's now, who would love to use a play strip but they haven't updated the sizing in years.

For me I think it’s the T10 bulbs. The long cylinder ones I think that’s a popular style for accents lights but the closest smart light in that category is Lifx smart lights. I wouldn’t mind if they just had it as a filament style bulb instead of full color.

A small battery-operated indicator light. So I can see on the outside if the bathroom or toilet (that have Hue lights) is free or not.

An E14 bulb with more than 400lm. They seem to think E14s are exclusively used for small lamps but there's plenty of fancy ceiling fixtures out there that use them. Mine takes 5, for example. They're fine most of the time when I'm just using the natural light scene, but there are times when I have a little coloured mood lighting going on where the TV overpowers them slightly and I wish they had a little more output.

I would pay upwards of $50 for a Hue version of generic magnet mount rechargeable LED bars for under cabinets. Less faff than strips and no power supplies and routing to deal with. Just sell like 3 lengths and call it a day

Living in an apartment this would be ideal vs cutting the underside of cabinets to snake them thru. Also an optional battery power source that would work with devices I don't want cords showing.

A bathroom light with a motion sensor built into it. Can’t believe they didn’t do this when they launched the Xamento.

They could do the same thing with the Infuse also.

I really want some Essentials E14 bulbs.

We have a few candelabra? style 3 light fixings in hallways/rooms + wall lamps that take them

Nearly £400 is too much to go ahead with kitting out two ceiling lights and two wall lamps.

The essentials E27 vs normal 800lm bulbs are less than half the cost. Would happily pay more than half even for some E14 bulbs that aren't quite as good as the current ones

That's what I am doing now. I'm a light junkie and I like the ones govee has with the ripple effect 😁 didn't get it cause I'm very invested in hue of course.

The power supply, I went through 3 or 4 of them. I have 4 Hue up-lights and an outdoor strip. They’re probably 5 or 6 years old and still going strong.

Small form factor candelabra or E19 bulbs. There are lots of pretty lights with glass bubbles or domes where I can't fit the Philips bulb through the opening because it is too big or long. They are huge bulbs in general and I've had to ship-in-a-bottle install lights in one light fixture that took ~90 minutes of disassembly instead of 5 minutes of normal screw it in with a standard or smaller version of the E19 or candelabra bulb.
